Knugcab's giant garage thread

Depending on which side your front drive shaft is on, (I am assuming right), an older pre 1980’s Jeep Wagoner had a Dana 44 with a 6 lug pattern. Its what I am running on the front of mine. If you don’t mind having mis-matched lug patterns the older CJ/Wrangler also had a right side pumpkin, with an ok if you weren’t too crazy axle.

Edit: Of course it all depends on what is common in your country.

Your CJ on the profile pic I guess? I like Jeeps, I had an early 50s Jeep Truck some years ago (but got tired trying to find an original cab since it had a locally built firetruck body with wooden structure that was falling apart so I sold it). Now I have a Willys MB instead (in pieces though, got it that way), that I am going to restore someday, no crazy resto planned, just as a fun summer car…

Both Escort seats in place, and I can only say that I am satisfied.
Much better driving position than with the Mazda seats, and more space under the steering wheel for the legs.

The truck is cool. But I’m also digging the '64 Ford sitting next to it in the 2nd pic. Is that yours as well?

It’s my fathers Ford. 64 Galaxie 500 2-door hardtop, a mildly overhauled 390 Interceptor under the hood. The Mini is just a car I parked together with though, don’t know the owner, just a cool picture.

One of my friends is running a fiberglass company and he had some molds for flares that was a quite close fit, trying to make them fit in now, sheetmetal screws only temporary, will rivet them later. I guess they are from a Chevy fullsize truck, 88-99 generation, since they look fairly right in shape for that, but they really improve the looks compared to the stock 4wd Datsun flares, makes the car look much more bold and aggressive. Also, not getting sprayed with mud when driving with windows down are a great thing… :stuck_out_tongue:

lol, my rear axle used to be cocked just a bit, the passenger and the inside of the passenger window would get bathed in mud.

I didn’t really like the big gaping hole down to the transfer case, especially not after my phone decided to fall out of my pocket and down on the highway through that… :stuck_out_tongue: Time to do something.

Nothing some quality sheetmetal from an old fridge can’t fix.

Done! Not the most beautiful work I’ve done in my life but in the end it will be hidden anyway.

Tried a boot I had on the shelf but it didn’t work out very well, if I mount it to the floo it flexes too much when putting it in low range so I have to find another one, but better for the moment anyway being only loose on the floor…

That’s why I never keep stuff in my pockets when I’m driving. I always empty my pockets and put my stuff either in the cup holders or some other storage area before setting off.

Two years since the last safety inspection so I had to do it now again, it turned out quite well…

The points that it failed in case you haven’t learned Swedish yet…

  1. Right parking lamp, not working. (Because I was changing the bulb yesterday but managed to break the socket, tough luck)
  2. Windshield washer, not working. (It is working, just the bottle that was empty! But I guess the tester didn’t hear the washer motor with this noisy forklift engine on idle…
  3. Parking brake, right side, not working. (Appears that the cable might be stuck…)

Now I don’t have to wrench the whole summer to be road legal again…

(And don’t ask me how it passed the pollution control because black smoke is the only thing this truck is good at doing… )

Ohhhhh guuuud…
100% Att min 850 kommer misslyckas med besiktningen också.
Vet inte hur många timmar jag har spenderat på den men vad förväntar man sig om bilen har varit avställd i 7+ år xD

Translation:
Ohhhhh gooood…
100% Sure that my 850 will fail the safety inspection aswell.
Don’t know how many hours I’ve spent on that car but what do you expect if it has been disabled for 7+ years xD

Do you have any thread for your 850?
(I’m actually junking out a 1997 S70 right now so just tell me in case you need parts from that one)

Well… If you have some half decent studded Winter tyres it would be great
And are the dampers in good shape? The ones on my car are worn out.
P.s I noticed that you live in Kalix. I’m a Lulebo so it would be farily easy to send the parts right?

Can check that out tomorrow

Sweet

Got the cans of paint today so I stole a picture of someone elses truck because I am lazy, and started doodling…
Swedish M90 camo in the planning, and the colours are a fair bit off, I know puke green aren’t a very good camo colour…

It’s still alive, the latest addition is the worlds ugliest canopy…but will be practical now when winter arrives, I guess.

Time to dig an old project out I think…

This is a 1965 Volvo PV544 that I have been building on for almost 20 years now. The engine is a B21A (2.1 litre 8V OHC) from a 1978 Volvo 240, but it will probably be replaced with a B234 (2.3 litre 16V DOHC) from a 1989 Volvo 740 that will get an Eaton supercharger. Front suspension is from a Volvo 140 with steering rack from a 1984 Opel Kadett (RHD rear steer now flipped over to LHD front steer) and a Volvo 740 lower steering column. Rear axle from a Volvo 240 with an aftermarket locker mounted in the stock 544 suspension. Disc brakes all around, Volvo 140 master cylinder and booster, Mercedes W115 pedal assembly. Poly bushings, rally springs, Koni shocks. Home built 2.5 inch stainless exhaust. Interior will be a quite stripped out affair (kind of 60s racing inspired) with a roll cage (no back seat), front seats from a Mk1 Escort and a Grant wood steering wheel. I will be running stock steelies widened to 5x15" up front (Stock centre in a Saab 99 rim) and 7x15" in the rear (same, but rims from some ugly aftermarket faux wire wheels).

There is probably more to say about it but well, just ask if you’re curious about anything.

Started putting in some sound insulation mats (will not be much of them but still, they are quite lightweight and much more effective than the tar paper used in the 60s…), not much but at least a start on a vehicle I haven’t been touching for years.

Old picture that shows a little bit more of the car.

Yes, it is being used (something that you almost has to prove when owning a 4x4 since you always get blamed for being a poser or trying to compensate for something), it is not just about looking cool, but today a steady birch was in the way so I went no further than this.

Me: “What is this, I could even drive here with the tractor just some years ago?”
Also me: “…yeah right, 15 years ago now when I’m thinking about it”

Guess that it was just a twig back then…
