Airborne’s blue coupe is seen doing a time trial on the course. Madoka, who is behind the wheel also finalizes the concept’s tests before it goes to the show. She also has a headset and, as she approaches last tricky segments of the track and passing them by high speed drifting, says:
Project 340 here, everything’s good. The car is perfect already. Let’s head to Tokyo.
Some hours later, Airborne stand on Tokyo Motor Show.
Airborne S340 Concept - new generation all-around sports car
Airborne’s proposal to finally replace S310 from 2010 in 2018/19 model years due to previous model’s aging. As to keep the tradition, S340 is still an analogue 2+2 coupe with naturally aspirated inline engine. Now the engine has 3.4 litres of capacity, direct injection, 6 cylinders, above 300 hp and combined with rear-wheel drive and our indestructible 6 gear manual gearbox this car can reach speeds above 260 km/h and 4.7 seconds to 100 km/h. Designers don’t hide fact that their inspiration is Airborne’s heritage with such vehicles, including: Mirage, Valetta and whole S model series, from 1976 to 2017.
As for price, pricing is yet unknown for production variant - as this car is also a concept, company’s design studio wants to hear some opinions about styling to make absolutely desirable car for everyone once it goes to production. Main part of Airborne also wants suggestions how would this car sell in Japan, because S models were never offered massively in this country. There are however some changes planned anyway: it’s uknown if Airborne will offer carbon fibre wheels from the concept, for example. There are more things that could divide production S340 from concept even more, but the company stays quiet on them.
While S340 doesn’t have ground-breaking tech, it still provides something that modern manufacturers seem to miss out - free driving experience, not missing out on newest safety technologies and Airborne uses this proven strategy to approach the S340 to everyone - from people who can’t find themselves in new tech, through mechanics who will have a rest and just fun with working on this car to true petrolheads who miss out pure machines from dealership.
