Scagliati At NYIAS 2018.

Introducing the 2019 Scagliati Zoccarato Scoperta. Continuing A Proud Name.

Music for the reveal

2019 Scagliati Zoccarato Scoperta in Rosso Cinabro

Scagliati Motori is proud to present to you the 2019 Zoccarato Scoperta luxury roadster. The Zoccarato draws on seven decades of open-air motoring tradition from Scagliati, with the car’s bold styling and clean lines drawing a direct parallel to our very first car, the 245 Serenissima of 1947. The Zoccarato is a very special car for our company from a historical perspective, as it carries the name of the Zoccarato family, who have been associated with our company for five generations now. Gianluigi Zoccarato - part stylist, part engineer, part master craftsman - who, with our founder Amadeo Scagliati, worked tirelessly to make their dreams of a luxurious touring roadster come true in 1947, and set forth in motion the legend that continues to this very day with the car before you.

2019 Scagliati Zoccarato Scoperta, in Zaffiro

The Zoccarato Scoperta takes our company’s proven SCALE Architecture and meshes it with a flowing aluminium body, making for a strong, lightweight and resilient chassis for optimum handling, acceleration and fuel efficiency. Power for the Zoccarato Scoperta comes from a turbocharged 2.9 litre inline-6 that is the newest addition to the Amadeo modular engine family, and produces 451 horsepower and 445 newton-metres of torque in the current configuration. Combined with a seven-speed double-clutch gearbox and active aerodynamics front and rear, the Zoccarato Scoperta returns 7.3 litres per 100 kilometres in the Automation Combined Cycle Fuel Economy standard.

Inside the Zoccarato Scoperta, you will find the same luxury that any of our valued customers would expect from a Scagliati, with a handcrafted interior of the highest quality for pilot and passenger, made from the very finest materials we can source from our purchasers the world over. The cockpit has has its focus oriented toward the pilot, with important controls moved to be within easy reach for them as they drive the Zoccarato Scoperta. Eighteen-way, power-adjustable seats cosset both pilot and passenger alike, with seat heating and cooling as standard, along with integrated air vents in the headrest to allow for a much more comfortable open-air driving exprience. The folding cloth roof does not impede in the trunk space of the car, and folds completely within 13 seconds, and can operate at speeds up to 40 kilometres per hour.

The Zoccarato Scoperta goes on sale later this year, with prices starting at $141,600, and represents the first of a much larger family of variants, with more to come in the future. Please visit our website, or your Scagliati Atelier for more information.

NYIAS MONTES SHOWROOM

2

Welcome to the Montes showroom!

Today, we are proud to present the new F-segment model of the brand, the T90, as well the definitive Urban 2018 TCR.

2018 Montes T90

But before introduce the model, we will answer questions, which have arisen in motor magazines, and among fans:

Questions and answers

But first, we will answer the questions that have arisen in specialized media about the nomenclature, as well as resolve the rumors surrounding the Excelsior.

On montes, we decided to change the nomenclature for the sedans between the D and F segment.

The T it means tourer, already indicating the clear approach to rolling comfort, but without forgetting the typical dynamic behavior expected by a customer of the brand.

And the numbers, indicates the segment of the car. They go three by three. T30 it would be a D-segment sedan, T60, E-segment sedan, and T90, F-segment sedan. At the moment, we have no planned sedan below segment D.

And about the Excelsior, there will be no change in the denomination. It is a G segment car, and also, a historical model name, so we have not made any changes.

And once the questions are answered, we go with the presentation of the model.

Technology

To leave a more orderly, sober and clean cabin, together with Sharp’s collaboration, we have developed a transparent central screen, which the driver can hide at the touch of a button. The screen is made of a plastic material in its core, combined with the use of an OLED panel, and protected with a glass projection.

For the controls on the steering wheel, we decided to replace the traditional pushbuttons, by capacitive sensors, with an OLED screen behind them, which shows the function. Why? Because by pressing one of the buttons, we can go from controlling the audio system, to the air conditioning system, and therefore, the volume up or down button would switch to adjusting the temperature. So. The buttons are the same, but pressing the Mode one, It changes from AC to sound, and vice versa.

We wanted to introduce the greatest number of controls on the steering wheel, so that the driver does not take his hands off the steering wheel, but without accumulating many buttons or be confussing.

In the autonomous driving section, the T90 incorporates the latest technology available in the market. Like LiDAR radars, for example, as well as an AI, developed by NVIDIA, that predicts what can happen on the road, or around it, to anticipate possible dangers.

The autonomous driving system is level 3.

Comfort

In Montes, we have been around 4 years, to develop a car as comfortable as possible, while dynamic.

To do this, we designed a hydropneumatic suspension, piloted, and controlled by RADAR, which, as we have said previously, reads the road, and adapts to the contour of it.

The feeling is like going on a cloud.

As we know that 65% of customers will be driven by a driver, we have designed a car with a wheelbase of 3.10m, to provide a large space for the legs, as well as to adjust the two individual seats. Two seats, with massage function, air-conditioned, and with automatic body adjustment.

Design

The body lines are soft, with a marked waist line, covered in chrome.

The handles, are retractable, and leave once the car opens.

They provide a clean lateral line, and an improvement in the drag coefficient.

Inside, leather presides most of the interior, along with wood, glass, marble and metal for the moldings and buttons.

The customer can choose between two types of leather: aniline and semi-aniline.

For the Asian market, you can order the interior, with seats covered in wool, instead of leather.

Engines

The car is available with three engine options: a 3.0 inline 6 with 311hp, a 5.0 v8 with 490hp, and a 5.8 V12, with 560hp. All engines, comes with turbocharger, direct injection, Montes SCHI technology, and a 48v mild hybrid system, for the V12.

Prices*

T90 3.0: 80.250€.

T90 5.0: 91.406€

T90 5.8: 106.646€

All engines offer supreme refinement, ample performance and high efficiency.

to the powertrain, the sL600x comes with has an extensive standard off-road package for going on tours off the beaten track. Sachiuri’s X-TRAC AWD system was developed as a multi-mode system, providing an electronic, variable-torque-split clutch with active torque control between the front and rear axles. and a power split of up to 50/50 between the front and rear wheels with an optional mechanically self-locking limited slip differential that transfers more torque to the wheels with most grip, to optimise traction in any driving conditions. This X-TRAC AWD system includes driver-selectable modes for all weather conditions.

As with the recently introduced sL1000, the new SUV will offer Sachiuri’s new highly advanced Dynamic Trac-Management system that provides automatic driver and traffic control enabling Level 3 autonomous driving. The car takes over the task of driving in certain situations. Unlike at Level 2, the driver no longer needs to monitor it permanently.

They must merely be capable of taking back responsibility whenever the system prompts them to, with the system active, the driver can relax. They can take their hands off the steering wheel permanently and, depending on national laws, focus on a different activity that is supported by the car, such as watch a TV program on the 12-inch SACHIURI iX infotainment display in the centre console.

During highly automated travel a small camera in the driving area detects if the driver tires or falls sleep. If that happens, a multi-stage warning is given. As soon as the speed rises above 60 km/h (37.3 mph) or the line of vehicles breaks up, the traffic jam pilot informs the driver that they need to take charge of driving once again. If they ignore this prompt and the subsequent warnings, the new sL600x is braked to a standstill.

Detailed information will soon be available on the Sachiuri webpage.

Expect a list of what our finalized lineup is will be like on our official website (forum page). That’s one of the most radical rear ends I’ve seen on an SUV in a while. Nice job!

At first, it seems that the big flagship SUV from Sachiuri has too many sets of taillights for its own good. And yet somehow, against all odds, it actually works very well indeed.

Nathan García is driving…

…the Shromet Appalachian 2018.

This is the Shromet Appalachian. I reported on it yesterday, and today the fellas at Shromet gave me the keys to one, so here I am, in front of a car that now that I look at it closer, looks more like a Baja California race car than a crossover. I’m not complaining about it though…if it behaves like a baja car.

Well, you can see the Appalachian is based on the Radiant just by looking at it. I have no major complaints with the elegant styling, if anything just the fact that the lower fascia is quite wide, but by no means bad looking. The rear feels a bit bland to me however, and I’d personally have liked more detail thrown in there for good measure. But looks aren’t everything, so let’s take a look inside.

Well, what you find inside is quite surprising in a good way: five full leather seats. The dash and tech options are a bit less upmarket than the rest of the interior, but it’s something I wouldn’t really complain about. The seats hold you nicely, looks like these fellas paid attention to the design. I can already see this being a mile eater, especially with the confidence the safety systems can provide you.

As for the suspension, it’s quite soft, perhaps a bit more than I’d like. Combine that with the long travel the suspension has and if you try to have sex in the back seats, you’ll be noticed by half the neighbourhood and then a few people more. Jokes aside and in the plus side, this could give it some serious offroading capabilities and traction outside of the tarmac - which it didn’t lack in the first place, with all wheel drive. This could make it a bit bouncy on the tarmac but it will also dampen any pothole or irregularity.

Now, there’s something I don’t understand though. Why does the gearbox - an 8 speed automatic - have three overdrive gears? Two or one overdrive gears are optimal, but having three makes it feel a bit overengineered. 32MPG is what the car gets in a combined test; I still don’t think this is optimal coming from a 1.5L three cylinder turbo engine, which should definitely deliver much better fuel figures. In my opinion they should’ve used a lazier, bigger engine which not only would’ve returned better economy but would also have been more reliable, although the reliability in this car doesn’t seem to be bad anyways.

But testing this car only on tarmac wouldn’t do it justice. So I took it to a small trail, and I must say it’s quite fun to drive: it doesn’t understeer too much, while offering good traction off the road and some reassurance from the AWD system - which, by the way, is slightly front biased. At a price tag of only $20870 this could be something you want to consider if you want to have some offroad fun; however, you must be prepared to deal with the low fuel economy and minor flaws of this car. If you are willing to put up with that, however, I can assure you this is an enjoyable crossover, and no crap on stilts like crossovers seem to be these days.

Bruno’s Blabberings

14:30 in NYC says the phone. Unfortunately, flight schedules and everything haven’t exactly worked out and after a useless nights sleep, I’m making my way down to a landing in JFK some time soon, on the second day that the show is open to the prying eyes of the press. Nathan’s been sending me some of these teasers and leaks that have come out of this show to keep me updated, and I chanced upon some heated back and forths that had ensued between some PR knobs and journalists on the internet, so that evidently called for some more sleuthing. Roll the neck, stretch the fingers. Click on the buttons and watch the numbers flow into and transform into charts folding out like flowers blooming in fast forward.

What’s immediately obvious is that something happened around the time when Geneva was underway. Chicago saw roughly 32 teasers and Geneva was a sharp uptick with more than twice as many at 112.5% the earlier count - then that trend was broken when attendance dropped to 45 teasers released for New York. I had to go back and trawl through these to make sense of why this happened. There seemed indeed to be a common issue plaguing most of these - across the three shows, 5 common troublesome features could be seen for the teasers that didn’t fare well. Either the image was just:

  • A car on a dark background with not much visible
  • The previous but now with a logo
  • Some kind of indiscernible background with a logo and some naff slogan
  • …or dark and messy background with just a bad slogan
  • Badly taken photos with oversaturation or blurriness in uncontrolled ways

I think that should lay to rest any half-hearted and overzealous defences that people try. Companies, please, up the quality or lay off the teasers. If I see any PR heads at the show I’ll definitely be leaving a word for them. If anyone wants the entire thing summed up in a few words: please, put effort into the teasers and don't have them be awful, silly dark images with idiotic slogans and a large logo. It really doesn't help when on top of low quality it's just slammed relentlessly into our eyeballs like for 75% of the show, it really gets stale and painful very quickly. Anyway, tonight then I'm off to the Jacob Javits Convention Center to ogle some cars for a while and then over the next two days some test drives will be underway. Look to Nathan and Gavin’s reporting for their thoughts, I don’t feel the need to rehash things all over again. See you all in a bit then!

The main reason was to maximize the cabin space (and consequently the comfort) and safety.
The firewall is moved as forward as possible, capable to deflect downward the engine during a frontal impact. This also increase the size of the cabin, along with the lack of transmission tunnel (or the reduced impact of it, for the AWD version)
