Automation Detroit Auto Show 2017 [BEST IN SHOW REVEALED]

The calmness of the Storm Automotive booth was soon shattered by the piercing scream of a 3 cylinder engine being pushed to the redline.

“10,000 RPM and shifting… Three cylinders… AluStar II series engine. That’s the new Adventure.” Luke said, taking a quick analysis of the sound before the car arrived.

The driver of the Adventure had clearly been driving a long time, as the Alaska plates were a dead giveaway where the car had come from. Storm Automotive’s Global Manufacturing Plant, located in Alaska, was where the Adventure had been built since 2004, as the AluStar II three-cylinder engine was also needed for the Surge. The driver, one of Storm’s Raceworks Division, didn’t bother slowing down for the speed-bump, instead hurtling over it and throwing a scattering of sparks off of the underbelly tray. A yank of the parking brake caused the Adventure’s rear wheels to lock up, the back end to slide, and the bright yellow car to screech loudly as it slid into the parking spot.

“Morning, Susan.” Luke said, as the driver of the Adventure got out. “I take it the trip went well?”

“Couldn’t have been better. I got to drive something with reasonable power and a strong engine, and you know I like these little three-cylinder cars. They’re fun, and it’s even more fun playing ‘dodge the traffic’ in one. Especially when you smoke someone down the highway who thinks they can beat it because they’ve got a sports car. No, they’ve got a warm hatch that packs a 1.6 liter inline 4 without forced induction, and a stupid body kit. I have a punchy three-cylinder engine in something the rest of the world calls a minivan. Here, it’s a hatchback with sliding rear doors. Oh, and be on the lookout tomorrow for Roger, he’s driving the new Serenity.”

#Emeraude Artisant Presents: Opal

The only vehicle Emeraude wishes to display at the NAIAS is the almost 1500hp, 16L V12 Monster, capable of 400m/h+ speeds.

Opal is a production ready concept, named the GT-X, made to demonstrate nothing but sheer brutal driving effieciency. This GT monster is more hypercar than Grand Tourer, boasting a massive displacement engine, and as many race prepared parts as an actual GT racer.

The Looks are polarizing. with the strips being the headlights, and the expected headlight position being vented. this 1800kg GT monster rockets to 422km/h, and accelerates to 100 in 3.6s, this is no slacking lady.

Expected sale price would be 280k (AMU) if this were to hit market.

#Chapter I: The V12, the magnificence
######Let’s just pretend that this happened a few hours earlier…

Four covered car shapes are on the dark, stage. All lights are off, only “ZAVIR” text above the stage glows slightly in white

A very elegant, middle-aged man steps onto the stage, the lights are turned on and focused on him while the rest is still barely visible. As he walks this starts playing silently in the background

Welcome everybody! My name is John Zavir, and as a CEO of Zavir Automobili USA I’d like to introduce you to our exposition at this great show - to all our fine works of engineering art. Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the Zavir world, world of beauty and quality, tradition and technology.

The covers are slowly pulled back from the cars, and by 1:10 in the linked music video all lights are turned on and focused on the cars

Welcome to the chapter one…

The V12 is an exceptional engine - not only by itself, but also for Zavir in particular. For nearly 70 years most of Zavir finest cars were powered by engines of this kind - smooth, powerful, unique. Today we brought you not only the latest, brand new Zavir V12, but also the very first, fitted in the legendary, first Zavir Volante. But let’s start with the new one.

##Zavir Motori MD63EC, the jewel

The 8DCA 5.5 litre variant will be also made available to other manufacturers as a standard offer of Zavir Motori.

And now, let’s move to the cars that this engine will be used in - and oh, what cars they are…

##Zavir Squalo VII and Zavir Squalo Volante VII, the brand new level of luxury

The new generation Squalo is the first car not from the Z-line to use carbon fiber in its construction - the use of carbon fiber monocoque with aluminium panels allowed to not only reduce weight of this 5.2 limousine and coupe, but in the same time to increase safety to unprecedented levels. Like its predecessor the new Squalo will be available with RWD or AWD 4Forza drivetrains, Hydraspeed VII or Seletronica II transmissions and engines ranging from 2.7 TIDe V6 to 6.3 i-ACI V12 in the Sportivo trim. It will be available at Zavir dealers worldwide from March this year.

##Zavir Z Volante III, the ultimate granturismo

The facelifting of the Z Volante (released back in 2013) coincides with a change in its engine lineup - the old 5.5 AD65EC V12 is replaced with the new MD63EC of the same displacement. The other three engines, 4.5 V12 and 4.3 V8 in N/A and turbocharged variants remain the same. As a reminder, few basic facts about this (GT12) trim of the Z Volante:

  • full CF construction measuring 15 ft/4.6 m and weighing 3750 lbs/1700 kg
  • 2+2 RWD coupe layout
  • 5.5 V12, 507 hp
  • 0-60 MPH in 3.8 s, top speed of 222 MPH/ 358 km/h

##Zavir Squalo (1974), the first shark in the sea

You know the last, now meet the first. However its predecessor was nicknamed “Squalo” (shark in Italian), and even later got it as a part of its name, this one is the first to have it from the beginning and also the first Zavir flagship to be offered in Europe. The whole idea of such a big car just after the fuel crisis might seem unreasonable now, but in fact thanks to introduction to Europe and broader lineup of engines, including some economical V6s it was even more successful than the 100 Squalo, its predecessor. This particular one however is powered by a 6.3 litre V12 from the D63D family, introduced with this model.

##Zavir Volante (1949), the legend, the archetype

You know the last, now meet the first - again. The first Zavir sports car having its own construction. The first of the long line of Zavir GTs. The first of the long line of Zavir V12 cars. The first of the long line of Zavirs named “Volante”. It was also one of the most luxurious coupes of its time, and one of the fastest cars in the world achieving 158 MPH/254 km/h - respectable to this day. That car defined “style” and “performance” for Zavir for the coming decades.

Thank you all for coming, this is all for the chapter one, and thus for today. Feel free to take photos and leave your opinions, and please come tomorrow for more

2018 Axia

Since 1961, The Zenshi Axia has fufilled it’s role as Zenshi’s luxury executive sedan. Slowly as the years progressed, starting in 1984, the Axia soon mixed its luxury image with the sportiness of sports saloons and coupes alike.

Once again, the Axia takes that role, and the 2018 MY version is ready to take on the full size luxury competition once more.

The Axia comes with the 373 HP LZ3-ACE Turbocharged 3.0L Inline-6 with the GTS-30T Type M base trim level, and can be upgraded to the 430 HP SA48DA 4.8L V8 engine with the GTS-48M trim.

A high performance model is planned to come alongside the performance variant of the Altrea.

#Detroit 2017 - Erin and ErinSport
It’s a little past 1pm and the Erin keynote has just started. Head of Marketing Julia Neath walks on stage as Panic in Detroit plays - “Hello Detroit, it’s a pleasure to be here”.

Naturally, the first 10 minutes are spent going over marketing gabble, including a showing-off of the new ‘retro themed’ ErinSport logo and the annual “look at how good our American dealerships are doing!” section which drew absolutely no reaction from the crowd. But, eventually, she got onto the interesting stuff.

#2017 Erin Visto (Mk 5)
“We’re proud to reveal the most advanced supermini Erin has ever made”.

The new Erin Visto is the most innovative version of the car to date. In a similar way to how the Tauga’s sedan and coupe version’s are developed, the 3 door and 5 door version of the Visto were split off to be designed separately.

Chief Design Stephen Riley comes on stage to discuss this further.
"We really wanted to introduce some sporty lines to the 3 door version of the Visto, so we had the idea to emphasis this with coupe styling, and hence it became known as the Coupe.

"As for the 5 Door, we’re introducing a suicide door setup on the car to make accessing the rear of the car very easy, and to greatly increase practicality.

"We’ve also made a major innovation with the Visto - it’s our first supermini ever to be made from Aluminium. Continuing the progress we’ve made to make aluminium bodied cars affordable since we launched the Mk 1 Tauga, the aluminium body on the Visto ensures low weight, good performance and great fuel economy.

"Engine wise, the Visto will be using variants of our successful Pureron 1.4l range, as well as the Pureon 1.0l TDi found in the Bino. On the entry-level S trim, this engine allows this car to average 60 plus mpg, despite it being a petrol powered car.

[hide=Engine stats]

  • Pureon 1.0l TDi TwinC
    87hp @ 7100rpm / 85ft-lb @ 4600rpm / Reliability: 73.3 / Smoothness: 66.4
  • Pureon 1.2l TDi TwinC
    95hp @ 6600rpm / 100ft-lb @ 4600rpm / Reliability: 80.1 / Smoothness: 69.7
  • Pureon 1.4l Di TwinC
    118hp @ 7700rpm / 105ft-lb @ 4600rpm / Reliability: 77.9 / Smoothness: 67.6
    [/hide]

“A full press release of the final version of the car is scheduled for the end of February, once final testing is complete”.

“Thanks Stephen. Next up, we’re moving on to hot-hatches” says Julia.
“We launched the Merna X-Eco last year to show that hot-hatches needn’t be expensive to run or hard to own. Today, we’re showing just how incredible a hot-hatch can be.”

#2017 Erin Merna X-AllDrive

The new poster for the car appears on screen, and onto stage rolls the car itself.

"It’s been a while since we made what we’d call a proper hot-hatch. The X-AllDrive trades comfort and luxuries for sharp driving characteristics and incredible performance.

"The interior went under some major weight saving, including making it a 4 seater, using lightweight materials for the dashboard and saving on extra features. We think it’s an acceptable swap considering how this thing drives.

"A whole load of aero work was done with this car, including an all new body kit, semi-clad undertray and even a dinky boot spoiler.

“To talk about the key aspect of this car, the performance, we have chief engineer Adrian Cole”

"Thanks Julia. Powering the X-AllDrive is a tuned variant of the Pureon 2.0l i4 engine, turbocharged and fitted with performance parts to squeeze 292 hp. It sends that to all 4 wheels via a 6 speed manual and two limited slip diffs. This ensures superb acceleration and low wheel spin - it’ll do 0-60 in 4.9 seconds and top out at 158 mph.

"Suspension wise, this is a very simple car - classic, analogue performance parts, nothing electronic or adjustable. It gives the car a very connected feel when you’re driving it.

A full release of the car, with complete specs, will be coming soon. Prices will start at £27860.

Back at the Erin booth, ErinSport are kicking off the year with both a new logo and by showing off their long overdue return to GT racing in the form of the Scarlet GT. More specifically, this is the new GTE-17 variant, which will, eventually, be competing in AMWEC.

Specs are being kept an absolute secret, but there’s no denying how keen ErinSport are to show this car off. Afterall, it’s been some 15 years since the previous Scarlet GT crossed the finish line for the last time.

On the screen’s behind the car, an early mock-up of the livery can be seen.

Asked whether any of this racing development may end up on road-going versions of the Scarlet, one of the engineers said “Quite possibly, but certainly not for a while yet. We’ve got other things to be getting on with first.”

While all of this has been going on, spyshots of what appears to be a new Erin prototype racer were posted by numerous automotive publications.

Taken by an anonymous reporter at Erin’s X Department R&D Centre in Ashbourne, Debryshire, the blurry pictures seem to confirm what’s long been rumored to be a return to Prototype racing for Erin, which would almost certainly see this mystery car at competing in the top class at AMWEC next season.

##Auxuras suprise the Detroit Auto Show by introducing the ZXE Concept , ‘‘Auxuras are never boring’’ said Eric Ballman , VP of Auxuras Motor Co.

The ZXE is supposed to be the ‘‘Baby RXE’’ which is a upcoming Saminda-Maesima next halo car.

Auxuras said the ZXE is a solo-sport car (which is not a collaboration work) but it will have similar powerplant which is expected to have electric motors making around 350-400 horsepower and will cost lesser.

The ZXE Concept shows a next generation Auxuras design with a much aggressive grille

Bino, Visto, Merna, Tauga, Berlose, Aventa… Erin’s lineup is bigger than I thought. And it seems that Luna isn’t really competing with Tauga, but rather Merna? Interesting idea with the suicide doors.

@Starfish94 And THAT Auxuras I would drive!

@Deskyx Is Ghepardo AWD? And does it have two gearboxes?

@Oskiinus No kurde, nie przy ludziach! :stuck_out_tongue:

I was looking into this when I was scouting out competition for the Merna X-AllDrive. The Luna Sportivo is definitley a competitor, but as a competitor to the Tauga, I’m not as sure. That’s a car that straddles the line between Standard and Luxury compacts, so I’d say that the Luna Berlina is a competitor for the cheaper trims of the Tauga or something like that :stuck_out_tongue:

2017 JHW Proteus

Welcome to the pinnacle of our product line.

This is our fully fledged super car, aimed squarely at buyers who want a car that is good on road, and a beast on track.

What this means is 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds, and a top speed of 202mph. Pretty impressive stuff for a car with under 400bhp and one that returns over 25mpg!

The price for this genuine all round beast? $86,500.

##EADC Prototype Presentation

Chief Engineer Jean Pierre:

As an automotive development company, EADC strives to make innovations that will revolutionise the automobile industry. Today, we are showing off a concept car, but not just any ordinary concept car, a concept car with all the technology and design that EADC have developed. Some of which, have never been seen before on automobiles. Today we present, the EADC Prototype.

The EADC Prototype is the product of years of innovation and design. Our engineers have devoted much time and effort to find ways to improve the driving experience of our cars. Take for example our special EEMBR brakes. Based on similar brakes found on the famous Japanese Bullet Train, the EEMBR has no brake fade what so ever, are fast to respond and can reduce the stopping distance of our cars by almost 30%. Another innovation is our ‘ALIC’ AI. Think of it as our version of KITT, from ‘Knight Rider’ In addition, the learning computer built into ALIC can optimise the driving experience to suit the owners need. Of course, ALIC us still in it’s development stage, but we at EADC expect it to be completed by 2020. And of course, you cant forget out new revolutionary fuel storage system. Unlike most cars that have large fuel tanks that offset the balance of the car, our prototype has no fuel tank. This is because all the fuel is stored within the graphene capillary tubes in the chassis that the fuel bonds to with the help of certain catalysts. This means that the weight of the fuel can be easily spread, making our concept car have a 50/50 weight distribution. In addition, this system reduces the risk of fuel explosions during collisions since the fuel is stored within the graphene tubes in longer chains, making the fuel more stable and less likely to catch fire.

So if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Ill be waiting at the EADC booth

And much like yesterday, Cavallera opened their area without much pomp. The two cars on display were glimmering, yet quietly confident. It was old versus new - what Cavallera opened their display with was a restomod project of the Tehuano. The original sat next to the new one, spinning away on display. There was not much activity around their stand and the PR reps sat around smiling. The point wasn’t to steal the show, it was still time to remain understated. For now.

The Tehuano: reborn. In Sevilla Orange.
It gained better tyres, better brakes, almost 50 more horsepower and new headlight technology. [hide=Click here to see the full list of modifications done to the car] * Refreshed modern lights, some removed * Modernized valvetrain * Fuel system from MPEFI to DI * Bottom end updated, conrods changed to be made of I-Beam Steel * Raised RPM limiter * Three-way high-flow catalytic converter added * Ignition timing significantly increased * Runs on 91 octane fuel * Uprated brake pad type fitted * New ECU allows traction and launch control * Stiffened springs and sway bars [/hide] This is a special limited run model, following the trend of Jaguar's E-Type Speedster Lightweight: old world charm with performance and reliability to match it. The run will only be 1000 models.

See you in two days with the next reveal.
