If we were allowed to do a second car, I’d put in a serious entry my current entry sets itself up for failure at every stage lol
As I didn’t state it before, yes, only 1 car per participant.
I’m home now, so I will start working in the submitted cars, the score and reviews. You still got two and a half hours.
And entries are now closed.
The accepted entries list is complete (except for 2 cars), so if you don’t see your name there, or didn’t receive a PM from me, but you did send a car, contact me.
(Sorry for double post)
Bit late to reply, but since you asked - negative. It’s an honest hardworking little SOHC.
Well, maybe not “little”.
And yeah, the lack of wings is rather destabilising at high speeds, but I tried it with a wing and the damn thing was eating into my wheelspin rating. You don’t mess with a man’s wheelspin rating when he’s building a muscle car.

The Tapian 8 came in red color and a lot of chrome. Under the hood is a 6L V8 pouring 382hp and 392ft-lb of torque, pretty respectful numbers indeed. The Tiapan is also equipped with a 5 speed manual transmission with no overdrive, 4 seats and a luxury interior with a big fat phonograph and the most advance safety system you can find in the market. It all sounds amazing, but, why it came so low in the rating? Well, despises it has a modern wishbone suspension all around, it suffers from sever understeer which makes this car less fun to drive, also the 1st gear is really tall, passing the 60 mph, and with only a top speed of 113mph, you cannot play very much with the rest of the ratios. Oh, and it is ludicrous expensive! The only way the teenagers would have one is by buying a poster!

When you hear its name, you know it’s something serious. The Kratos has an all aluminum SOHC 7L V8. It produces 451hp at 5,600rpm and 490ft-lb at 3,500rpm and it can rev up all the way to 6,000rpm. The big engine produces a wide powerband and due to its construction material is quite light. Other features include a 5 speed manual w/overdrive, automatic locker diff, and a std interior with a std radio on a 2+2 layout. The suspension is carefully tuned and you can actually turn and drive this car, or simply drive it in a straight line until you reach 154mph. It’s very quick as well, despise weighting almost 1 and a half ton, it can do 0-62 in 4.8 seconds. A magnificent beast, so, why it’s in 17th position? The same as the Tiapan, it’s quite expensive. You have to pay for all the engineering that went into this car. Oh, and you can barely make the car wheelspin, so you won’t be making your way to that special lady’s heart by making donuts on the pavement.

If you’re a mafia guy with a hairy chest from queens who dresses in sports cloths, this is your car. The ’69 Rambler comes in a spacious 2+2 design, with a sport interior mixing luxury and a racing feel. The best part? An 11L DOHC V12 and 713hp and 767ft-lb of torque. The powerband is narrow and both peak power and torque are in the upper range, but that doesn’t matter really, because you have over 400 ft-lb at idle. Sadly, this makes the car weight almost 2 tons (the engine alone weights 620kg) but still it can reach 184.5 mph and do 0-62 in only 6.5 seconds. And, you can still hoon all you want. Sadly, being designed for Mafia guys as main customers the car is the more expensive car in the competition. Too bad, but if you ever see one, well, you better turn to the other side and just hope you’ll never be inside one… unless you’re the mafia guy, that is.

The Eden Civera Valiente specimen it’s a Raven MKII X2-R, with a nimble DA OHC 4L V8, but with some good 243 horses and 259ft-lb. The engines pushes the rear wheels through a 5 speed manual transmission with no overdrive and short gearing, which results in 0-62 time of 6.7s and a top speed of 128.8 mph. The car is light (1245 kg) and you can wheel spin the tires by pushing the accelerator to the bottom. It drives well (tho it doesn’t stop that well) and has a standard interior with a standard radio with enough space for 5 people. And why is in 15th place then? Well, the Raven does everything good, but it doesn’t exceed in something, it needs more character. This is respectable, until you see the price tag. Being the hottest trim of this model makes it the more expensive, and for that money, you might expect more car.

The first thing you think after you see the Juggernaut is “how is this car road legal?”, but somehow, it is. The heart is the mighty Family 81 engine, a big 120mm x 120mm OHV V8 with a total displacement of 10.857L. It offers 560hp at 4,300rpm and 738lb-ft at 3,200rpm. And all the power goes straight to a classic 4 speed manual transmission. And as you can imagine, after you started to accelerate there is nothing that could stop you. Inside there are only 2 racing seats and a standard radio. The double wishbone system with the advance power steering makes the car quite tame. Due to the downforce from the big rear wings, the Juggernaut top speed is 166.4mph, and it reaches 62mph from stop in 5.7s. Obviously with that power you’ll be burning your tires even at almost 80 mph. The catch? You guess it, the price. Must likely, the guys who can afford it wouldn’t be driving it because they’re old or bussy having a family and an important job.

“Action Express” is something you expect to see in the name of a gun, not a car, but in the Maverick it works. So, what does Boglig offer in the Maverick? Well, for starters an oversquare 7L DAOHC V8 with the more linear power delivery you can buy (how does 396hp and 467ft-lb sounds to you?), a 5 speed manual transmission with overdrive, decent brakes, and more importantly, 4 doors and 5 seats. Yes, if there is something this car has and the other doesn’t is utility. You can fill the trunk with groceries and then race the guy next to you in the stop light. You can even tow something if you like, thanks to its solid rear axle and its strong ladder chassis. The bad thing is the car is too heavy despite the standard interior; 1765kg, resulting in a top speed of 148.6mph and a 0-62 time of 7.4s. The Maverick has its corks, but for that money, it’s maybe the more family oriented muscle car you’ll see. Oh and it can burn tires pretty fast as well.

Definitely, there is more than meets the eye in this car. The Adenine Vindicator has a 2+2 configuration, but it got a premium interior and a phonograph, as well as the most modern safety gizmos for the car. The 6.1L DOHC V8 uses a MFI system and has 391hp and 416ft-lb, managing a top speed of 158.8mph and a 0-62 of 4.3s, the second quickest car. So why is this piece of fine engineering in only 12th place? Well, the vindicator has the engine in the wrong position, behind the driver and over the rear axle, meaning almost none wheel spin and little utility (small back seats and small trunk). At the end of the day, you’ll feel like you’re driving boxy Porsche instead of a muscle car.

An instant classic this is. Inside the bonet of the Khorat Krock beats an oversquare 9L V8 SOHC with 3 valves per cylinder. With 532hp at 4,800rpm and 614ft-lb of torque the car accelerates from 0 to 62 in only 5.8s and can reach 172.1mph using a classic 4 speed manual transmission. Maybe those numbers don’t mean much, and fall in the average of the other competitors, but, where the Krock really shines is at safety, comfort and prestige. Inside, the car has an absolutely high-quality premium interior and a heavy phonograph as well. And the safety is pretty advance for its time as well. Even tho it has an automatic locker diff, its monocoque chassis and its suspension set-up (double wishbones at front and semi trailing arms rear) can make the car quite comfortable. And, well, that is what you will expect from a truly expensive premium car. The Krock is the third most expensive car (behind the FSD Rambler and the Juggernaut), and for that, it only reached 11th position, despise being the car with the highest score (it does everything!). Too bad.
##10th @AirJordan – 1969 Smooth Brick V8
With a slightly higher value/price we have the ’69 smooth brick. Same as the Khorat Krock, this car exceeds in many areas, but it has less power (392hp) and less torque (428ft-lb), ending a tad bit slower than then Korat, 6.1s 0-62 time and a top speed of 161.5mph. So, what’s the difference? The price. The Smooth brick not only has a funny name, it also costs almost $150 dlls more than the ’69 Raven, and packages a lot of fun. You can drift with it, do drag races, etc… And it has a modern next-gen V8 DOHC with mechanical fuel injection. Definitely, one of the best cars out there.

This car is a bargain. Sure, it seems outdated compared to the other cars, but that doesn’t diminish of what this little car is capable. Ladder chassis, double wishbone front, semi trailing arms back, 4 speed manual and a SOHC 6.4L V8, 396hp and 418ft-lb. Sadly, the engine produced max hp and peak torque 5,100rpm and 4,900rpm respectively, just in the rev limiter. All of this makes the Sonoma one of the slowest cars, 0-62 takes 7.7s (the slowest time for the muscle category) but at least it reaches 157.2 mph. But don’t let that fool you, it is still a great car, it can burn tires quite easily, it’s fairly utilitarian and definitely it won’t try to kill you. And for that price, it’s a true bargain.

This is the reason the ’64 Sonoma didn’t end up higher in the rank. Although it’s the 3rd less powerful car (253hp and 258ft-lb) it’s faster than the Sonoma, it only takes 6.3 seconds to go from completely stop to 62mph and will keep accelerating until you reach 152.5 mph. Its secret? A DOHC 4L V8 and a light monocoque chassis, it weighs less than a ton, even with a luxury interior and a premium radio system. It might be a little bit more expensive than the Sonoma, but it has much to offer.

And here we have a german muscle car. The Far…fatz…fa…f… the M-1 it’s that car that one might think it isn’t going to work, but it does. The car is powered by a Flatplane square 5.7L DOHC V8, producing 367hp at 5,400rpm and 365ft-lb at 4,500rpm, with the rev limiter set to 5,400 rpm. Pretty much everything in the car is standard, even the 5 seats and the radio. It uses a complex hydropneumatic system in the suspension (mcpherson at front, solid axle with leafs at the rear). Although its top speed is respectable (155mph), it is the slowest car to go from 0-62, taking 8.9s. So why this car gets so high in the rank? Because it’s perfect for hooning. You can easily burn the tires, and the 5 seats are perfect for carrying you’re friends around when you’re getting into trouble. It’s also one of the most reliable cars in the challenge. So it seems at the end like a good first car.

The ’68 Zeus is the car with the lowest score, almost the same as the Tiapan. Yet, it costs almost half! And that is the function of a Pony car, to work as an entry level muscle car for those who a)can’t afford it or b)it’s actually their first car. So, what does the Zeus has to offer? 4 seats (2+2), standard interior with standard radio, advanced safety, and for the new drivers; a 3 speed automatic transmission. It also hides a 7L OHC V8, producing only 291hp and 375lb-ft, leaving a lot of room for modifying the engine (it’s not that bad, there’s plenty of power for hooning). What would I like in the car? A manual transmission and better brakes. This car has a top speed of 146.4mph, and a 0-62 time of 9.7s, making it, effectively the slowest car in the challenge.

And here we have the most reliable muscle car. The Barracuda features a 5.4L OHV V8 with 319hp and 372ft-lb, more than enough to create a good amount of wheel spin. It also has a classic 4 speed manual gearbox , 4 seats with a quality standard interior. There is no radio or power steering in the car, neither is advanced safety. Only the minimum you need to have fun. As a result is pretty light, and with mcpherson struts at front and solid axle with coils at rear, it has a pretty good balance between drivability and sportiness. Definitely a good affordable car. But it lacks speed and quickness, it does 0-62 in 5.9s and has a top speed of 147mph, but, I guess if I ask more from that price I’ll be greedy.

The Rampager it’s the most drivable car, the third with the highest sportiness and one of the most comfortable. For 3,318 you’ll get a 4.6L DAOHC V12, yes a V12 for a cheap price. You will also get 293hp and 302 ft-lb of torque. Inside, the car has a 5 speed manual transmission, a high quality premium interior and a standard radio, with a pretty advanced safety. What about top speed? The rampager goes all the way up to 151.3 mph, and a decent 5.7s to go from 0-62. Sadly, the 1st gear is so tall that there is almost no possibility of wheel spinning.
[humanism]↓↓↓The top 3 cars with the highest value/price, so cool that appear in every other youtube video of underated cars↓↓↓ [/humanism]
##03th @Ornate – 1967 Valour 520
With a slightly higher price over the Rampager we have the Valour 520. And it is the quickest muscle car you can buy. Its 8.1L SOHC V8 produces 520hp at 4,900rpm and 562ft-lb of torque at 4,700rpm. 0-62 in only 4 seconds flat and a top speed of 172.8 mph. It’s madness, completely madness (but it also includes a phonograph, for some reason) But the Valour it’s reserved almost for pros, it has no power steering and a sports interior and it can barely brake. Also it oversteer easily over 40mph. The reason? The same reason why it is so fast, it has the engine in the wrong position. But, if that or the lack of utility doesn’t bother you, you can easily buy if for $3,416.41. It is the best (and quickest) alternative if you can’t afford the Kratos, the vindicator or the juggernaut.
##2nd @HowlerAutomotive – 1967 Krakatoa Seven
And we have the mighty Krakatoa Seven, with the mighty Explosivity Index engine. It has 693hp and 736ft-lb, true raw power from its 10.8L SOHC 32v V8. This is the car you see in movies or in videos of guys doing burnouts. It has the second highest top speed (180.2mph) and does 5.9s in 0-62 (most likely trying to avoid massive wheelspin) but once you got traction, the car runs like the wind… that is unless you try to turn. The car suffers from understeer below 80mph, but between 80 and 100mph it’s really hard to control. Inside, the car has a premium interior and seating for 2, but for some reason it has no stereo. But it doesn’t matter really, because for that price you get a lot of muscle, perhaps, more muscle than you would ever need.
##1st @nialloftara – 1967 Centauri Sprite V6
And in first place we got the ’67 Centauri Sprite, the car which you get more for your money. And, actually, for a small quantity of money. That is right, it costs almost half or less than most competitors, and is perfect for those young people looking to buy their first car. The engine is a 4.4L OHV V6 making 200hp at 4,400rpm and 262ft-lb at 2,700rpm, a wide and pretty usable powerband. Then the power is send to a 4 speed manual transmission, an automatic locker and then to the small 155/70R11 tires. It got a standard interior in a 2+2 layout and a simple Macpherson strut at front and semi trailing arms in the back. All of this makes the car quite drivable but still capable of doing serious bournouts. The car also is the more reliable one, and due its lightness, it actually beat some of the cars in 0-62 time (7seconds flat)and it reaches 136mph, surprisingly, not the slowest one. So, resuming, you got a car that will not break, with an engine with an usable powerband (and it can take tons of tuning if you want) that actually drives like a charm, with half the price you will pay for almost any other car. This is, ladies and gentlemen, the very representation of a Pony car.
wut… never once would i thought a pony would win this…
since i was aiming for muscle premium, i didn’t pay a single regard to price and aim for the highest market score. didn’t consider that price would outweigh score
congrats @nialloftara
but then again, realistically. even irl pony would give you best bang for your bucks, because that’s what it supposed to give, and muscle being the car for those with a bit more money to burn, and muscle premium for the rich and famous
Lol nice, eccentric. I didn’t really read the brief closely enough
Also stupid file clearly didn’t save my naming right. The engine was affectionately known as The Big One (maximum tune). Which is a misnomer because there is only one tune haha.
Strop beat me with a monster. I bad at challenges.
Hahaha, boxy Porsche is a perfect way to describe the Vindicator Unlike most American car companies, Adenine actually cares about efficiency, in this case efficiently getting the massive engine power to the road. We’ll let the other cars handle the burnouts while we speed by them in comfort and style
Edit: by the way, did high schoolers have YouTube back in the 60s and 70s or does everyone just happen to want restored 40 year old cars?
Congrats @nialloftara for a well deserved round 1 win!
Can’t wait to see what round 2 brings
EDIT: Checked the OP… My car needs to go on a diet, STAT!!!

Also, I change the scoring system a bit, because granting 10 points max. and only to the first 10 proved to be a very bad idea (i didn’t expect so many competitors). I’ll Update the OP with the total score so far.
Also, time for the round number 3, the bathing suit contest!

I’m guessing we aren’t allowed to vote for ourselves?
Not that it matters for me, I can’t win anyways
You can choose the best 3, and the vote is secret. If you think you car looks that good, you may vote for it
Such a nice review, still only 10th. Not sure where did I miss most points… Congrats to top 3, great cars you have made
@Sillyworld great challenge, once again I’m really enjoying your work!
hmmm well thats my first wooden spoon overall on reflection I made a crappy car
Ah i knew it, dirt cheap car was going to win the first round, the cost was simply the largest factor in the score. Should have submitted my stage one with the 300 cubic inch v8 and was alot cheaper.
But, ill take second place around the track, just a bit behind strop with 110 less horses under the hood, ill take that as a victory.
Your car probably has nearly as good a power to weight ratio and definitely a much better FR weight balance than mine… look at the superior 0-100 time! My car was solely built around a big fucking pushrod block in the front and that was it haha. I’m honestly surprised it was even fast around the track, I suspect that’s all to do with the ridiculous amount of attack on my aero fixtures, which gives me just as good cornering at high speeds as it does low speeds. I am very confident that if several other contestants had bothered to add aero to their cars, I would have been beaten, but as it is, me being me, I’m more than happy to take this round
Now, how to vote, some of these cars look real nice…
I only had 44.4lbs front and 23.4 lbs rear, with only .14 horsepower per pound(3216 lbs). Pretty mild aero and the car is fairly light. The daytona track is just a big oval so any aero to keep speed in the sweepers helps big time.
The time, atleast after editing my car, adding another 100 hp would shave about a second off the time.
My car was 3674 lbs, so with 560hp, that would be 15.2hp/lb. Front attack is set high enough to negate any lift, and the rear wing has a fair bit of downforce, allowing the car to do 1.09g on the skidpan at both 20m and 250m. But it’s the weight distribution (59:41) that kills it, along with the brakes struggling to keep up. I did pour quite a bit of tech into trying to keep the damn thing under control, and that’s why it does quite poorly in the value stakes.
Note: with the new calculations coming up, longitudinal grip improves, so expect better starts! My Juggernaut goes from 5.7s to 4.9s!
