Kei had grown up dreaming of driving cars at speeds unfathomable. Influenced by his father, he was brought to numerous Finnish rallies and his first visit to a Formula One Grand Prix solidified his vision. To chase speed and performance without bounds.

Following a successful business venture managing investment accounts in London, Kei founded Blue Arrow Motorsport Engineering in 1995 to make his vision come true. Blue Arrow began creating suspension kits for rally vehicles to be used in Finland before venturing into purpose-built rally engines.

The success with the engines allow Blue Arrow to accrue enough capital to refurbish an old Finnish Navy submarine base to be the new headquarters in 2005. This was followed with a lucrative contract with GP2 to supply engines for teams. By 2010, Kei and the Blue Arrow team felt confident enough to create their very first prototype car, the AT.1. It was crude but ludicrously powerful.

It wasn’t until the AT.2 in 2016 that Blue Arrow began to sell vehicles. The AT.2 was extremely expensive but it’s performance was real. It rivalled McLarens and Ferraris, something that was unexpected from such a small motorsport company from Finland. Since then, Blue Arrow has continued it’s chase for performance with models such as the Artemis and Rynnata building the prestige and reputation of the company while it’s 2018 LMP1 entry solidified Blue Arrow as a top motorsport company.

The start if the new decade has seen the launch of the Runsaus, the company’s first plug-in hybrid.

That pretty much sums up the company’s philosophy - smaller, lighter cars definitely have a performance and handling advantage over larger and heavier ones with the same power. I can’t wait to see what you come up with in the near future!

Ever seen those Formula One engines for sale on eBay and wonder what you could do with it? Well, our chief engineer over at the Espoo engine factory managed to secure funding (more like annoyed the CEO until he said yes) to acquire such an engine (A 3L V10) for… let’s say… research purposes. Yeah, that.

A couple months later and a shipment arrives at the factory containing something pretty special. A V10 engine, the size of a common V6, with a couple of turbos strapped to the side. The timing was perfect, as the design team had just finished a design and the work began to mate the two together.

The result was the AT.2. It is the very first car to come out of their brand new London factory. The car itself is around the width of most modern supercars, something that the CEO was not too happy about. That was of course until he found out that it was shorter lengthwise than some compact cars.

The engine that the chief engineer had made was a masterpiece. It was a 3.8L model whose twin-turbos helped it unleash 825 HP and screamed to a 10,000 RPM redline.

Driving-wise, it’s everything you’d expect from modern supercars. Lavish use of carbon fiber. Independent Active Suspension that was developed from data from the defunct LMP project was paired with 16 inch carbon-ceramic brakes and 6-piston calipers.

Performance figures were supercar levels and some may argue, hypercar levels. 222 MPH, 2.3s 0-60, and tons of downforce.

None of these helped the price though. The R&D and the engine and the lavish amount of carbon fiber paired with an interior more advanced than it needed to be made the price… quite high. $800,000 high.

But alas, we don’t care. As the first in a new generation of pocket rockets, the price is well worth it.

Blue Arrow LM.2 Hybrid
2018 Prototype Endurance Car | LMP1-H | Blue Arrow - Bull Horn Racing

In 2014, Blue Arrow attempted to purchase the vacant slot in Formula One in a failed bid to enter motorsports with a constructor-backed works team with the goal of promoting the brand. This was to be achieved by demonstrating the manufacturer’s engineering prowess. Blue Arrow would not be kept out of motorsports forever and in 2018, Blue Arrow partnered with Red Bull Bull Horn Energy Drink to create an entry into the endurance racing scene, under the team name Blue Arrow Bull Horn Racing UK.

As a works-team, Blue Arrow had to create a hybrid car as the non-hybrid LMP1 category was reserved for privateer teams. Almost immediately, Blue Arrow partnered with a certain Formula One team to design and port over their energy recovery systems for use in the new car. Meanwhile, the engine factory in Espoo was tasked with designing a relatively compact engine.

When development for the powertrain was finished, the result was a 2.5 liter six-cylinder boxer engine mated to the adapted F1 MGU-H and MGU-K units and two turbos. Performance figures for the engine was a maximum of 900 HP without fuel-flow limitations, with the engine being capped at 500 HP due to regulations. The hybrid system consisted of the aforementioned F1 MGU units and two electric motors on the front axle provide an additional 300 kW of power. In total, the LM.2 could use 900 HP in short bursts. The LM.2 was also helped with a long maximum power band, having near-maximum power from the engine from 8000 to 12,000 RPM.


In the aerodynamics side, Blue Arrow worked to create a double diffuser effect in the rear while the front wing design was developed to the very extent of what’s allowed by the regulations. This gave the LM.2 the amount of downforce needed to blaze through corners at high-speeds while a deal with Pirelli Tyrelli for special tyres completed the handling package.

Performance was fantastic in the races, clinching the 2018 AES championship by winning 4 races in the season. Blue Arrow had achieved glory in their first season of endurance racing though the LMP1 program’s cost meant that Blue Arrow was not able to field a works team for 2019. Blue Arrow was poised for another entry in 2020 using a modified LM.2 vehicle but further development was halted as a result of the pandemic and instead refocused their efforts on a new vehicle for 2021 adhering to the new LM Hypercar specifications.

I read that as 40/60 front to rear, not the other way around. Anyway, it looks as fast as it goes, and with such impressive specs, it’s no wonder it lived up to its promises by winning several races during its lifespan.

Blue Arrow Artemis
Model Year 2020 | Track-only Hypercar

The last hurrah of the AT platform, the Artemis is a demonstration of the highest possible performance available to the soon-to-be retired platform. The engineering team worked to implement every lesson learned from the platform’s 5 year life as well as implementing new technologies and design techniques to squeeze out every last drop of performance.

Inspired by the F-117 Nighthawk aircraft, the Artemis’s body retains the general shape of AT platform vehicle while adding a quite sharp touch. Our aerodynamicists worked for weeks in the wind tunnel to ensure the maximum amount of downforce was achieved while retaining quite a unique and striking look. Extensive use of carbon fibers and titanium alloys ensured a extremely rigid but light body and chassis.

Absolutely no effort was spent other than making the Artemis demolish corners. The active suspension only has settings for different types of tracks and while unbelievably punishing on anything other than track tarmac, serves it purpose by keeping the Artemis planted on every type of corner.

To ensure the lightest possible car, the engineers ditched the F1-inspired 3.8L turbo V10 for a smaller and lighter 3L turbo V8. Just because it’s smaller doesn’t mean it’s less powerful however, as it produces 985 HP and 677 lb-ft of torque as it screams to it’s 12,000 RPM redline. To produce this power, the engine must run exclusively on 100+ octane race fuels. This restriction along with it’s construction relegates the Artemis to a solely track-only purpose.

The use of exotic materials leads to a purchase price north of $3 million. To sweeten the pot however, any owner of the 35 examples of the Artemis will be able to call on a crew of mechanics and ship their car to any race facility in the world. Tires, driving instruction, as well as any spare part expenses will be paid for with your purchase of the vehicle.

No stops, no compromises. The Artemis is everything we stand for taken physical form. But the saga does not end here.

Blue Arrow’s first foray into electric power is not one with an eye on the environment, but one on the infinite pursuit of performance. A smaller impact on the environment just happens to be one of the positives in the transition into a hybrid powertrain.

As market sales slide toward ever more practical vehicles as well as European governments pushing towards the adoption of electric power, Blue Arrow could no longer ignore these developments. UNCOMPROMISED PERFORMANCE

The Runsaus uses Blue Arrow’s new hybrid drive system called E-H Drive. This system consists of a 10 kWh Lithium-ion battery and two electric motors placed in the front working in parallel with an all-new 4.0L twin-turbo V8. The E-H Drive allows the Runsaus access to 755 total horsepower and 20 miles of all-electric range.
