Bogliq Automotive USA

1964 Model 9 (Nihilist)

The 1961 Model 9 was a smash hit for Bogliq USA. Every newspaper in the land ran articles about the great new homegrown sports coupe sticking it to the old money from Europe and, while not a massive sales hit in itself, the foot traffic generated by the Model 9 saw many more Bogliq’s sold than usual. Therefore Bogliq sought to widen the appeal of the Model 9 with a Mk II revision, but not throw the baby out with the bath water with a wholesale redesign.

This meant that the Mk II had big shoes to fill. The “Enhance but don’t Erase” motto resulted in the range being expanded to three distinct models; the Entice, Enthuse and the Empower. The Entice was a new model which introduced a 92RON 4.6L Gamma V8 that was designed to appeal to richer rural and semi-rural customers who had only access to lower quality fuel. The Enthuse was the same spec as the Entice except it received a high compression 4.6L Gamma V8 for improved performance. The Empower debuted the first application of Bog-jet Fuel Injection; a mechanical, air pressure metering, fuel injection system that used less fuel, with improved throttle response, than a regular carburettor while improving fuel efficiency, reliability and outright performance.

The Mk II Model 9 had truly earnt its place as the halo model of the Bogliq model range!

The Mk II Model 9 was designed to maintain the image of the Nihilist as THE sports car for the genuine American gentleman while pushing the boundaries of technological advancement. The Mk II Model 9 would achieve this by being beautiful to look at, fun to drive and available in a spec level to suit everyone. The Mk II Model 9 may be less intense than the Mk I but it was all the better for it as many more customers would choose the Mk II as their weapon of choice.

Due to this early car’s success, the Nihilist would remain as the flagship of Bogliq USA’s model range, showcasing new tech and gracing teenage boys walls as glossy posters.

Tl;dr: The Mk II Model 9 is awesome! (at least to me, lol)

1969 Model 10 (Zealot)

By 1968 the Model 4 had reached the end of its life. Sure, the performance wasn’t too slow and it was great on gas, but the interior was outdated and cramped and the design was old hat alongside fresh new competitors. Therefore the Model 10 was a breath of fresh air when it was launched in 1969.

Featuring a stylish new look and larger dimensions, the Model 10 was built to provide similar fuel economy than the Model 4 but with a better interior and superior performance. The Model 10 would also debut, alongside the rest of the range, a similar strategy used when the Model 2 was first introduced. Since the Gamma line of engines were now over a decade old, a new engine family were in development. But, until then, the Gamma range is now backed by a five speed manual gearbox across all models. This is expected to improve fuel economy and driver pleasure over the old four speed unit. Other model wide enhancements include: Double wishbone front suspension, integrated roof aerial and four wheel disc brakes.

1969 Model 11 (Mutineer)

The Model 11 was introduced in 1969 to replace the well regarded, but average selling, Model 7. The Model 11 was designed to stay true to the Model 7’s lines but provide superior handling and interior room through careful design and engineering choices. Also the range of drivetrains were adjusted, with the 4 cylinder being dropped entirely, as the Model 10 needed marketing space and the under-engined Model 7’s were hard to shift by dealers.

1969 Model 12 (Maverick)

The Model 8 Maverick was a bit of a conundrum for Bogliq dealers. As it was for the Model 3 Maverick, the Model 8 didn’t do anything that the smaller brother Mutineer couldn’t do and used more resources doing it. However, by 1969, the American public had developed a taste for excess and the new Model 12 was perfectly placed to reap the sales rewards of this trend.

The Model 12 didn’t have an engine smaller than 4L and, apart from a V6 in the Engage, was basically V8 exclusive. Despite the focus on bulk power, the Model 12 also received a high torque version of the new 5 speed manual in an attempt to tame the powertrains excessive penchant for fuel consumption.

1969 Model 9 (Nihilist)

The Model 9 was refreshed in 1969 as the shape was still iconic and Bogliq USA didn’t want to taint their halo car too much with the muscle car paintbrush being applied to the rest of the range. A larger engine was fitted in an attempt to improve performance with out 98RON fuel but, due to engine bay constraints, the largest V8’s in the Powertrain inventory wouldn’t fit. This meant that, unlike the rest of the Bogliq fleet, the Nihilist Empower had to run on 98RON Super.

Vision: Three - 300Km/h and Beyond!!!

Press Handout, Detroit Motor Show, Jan 1970

In the grand tradition of Vision: One and Vision: Two, Bogliq USA have released Vision: Three to be seen by the general public for the first time!

Vision: Three has one goal. Develop the technologies of the future so that people can safely achieve speeds of 300Km/h plus without their tyres de-laminating or their car overheating. Bogliq RnD is working closely with tyre company GoodBoye to develop tyres that can withstand the torture of constant high speed operation.

Other companies were partnered with to aid with the development of a new, efficient, power producing enhancement for automotive engines. Given the internal nickname of “Turbo”, these power adding devices don’t run off the engine itself. Rather they gather energy from the exhaust gasses, which drives a compressor, which feeds the engine extra air. Bogliq RnD is confident that all cars, a decade from now, will be powered up by “Turbo” devices!!!

Vision: Three is capable of a top speed of over 300Km/h and makes 400Kw from it’s 5L V8! That’s right, over double the power of any mainstream 5L V8 and faster than anything on the road today!

1973 Model 5 (Cargostar, Squadstar)

For 1973 Bogliq USA converted their entire automotive portfolio over to the new 91RON unleaded standard. Since legislation was pending that would see the mandatory installation of anti pollution catalysers to the exhaust of new vehicles sold, Bogliq USA installed these “Catalytic Converters” as well. This resulted in a loss of power and fuel efficiency across the board.

The Model 5, being Bogliq’s oldest single continuous model was refreshed with a 2.3L Gamma four to attempt to counteract the loss of power and retained a two barrel carburettor to maintain daily driving reliability with simple maintenance requirements. Other than the installation of 5mph bumpers and adding of compliant lights and reflectors, the Model 5 is essentially unchanged…

1973 Model 6 (Overlander)

As per the rest of the range, Overlander received 91RON compliant engines and catalysts. Unlike the rest of the range, however, buyers could delete the Catalyst if they weren’t registering the vehicle. This would allow buyers in countries that still used lead additives to run that fuel without fear of damaging the catalyst.

Otherwise, the biggest news for Overlander was the addition of a pickup version of the LWB model. The Nomad variant was just as capable off-road as the two wagons but allowed for greater volumes of cargo to be carried by the operator.

The Model 9 Nihilist is getting old. The tight, stylish exterior translates to a cramped, narrow interior that hasn’t got room for the latest gadgets or stereo options. Nihilist will continue to sell on conservative, nostalgic grounds but will struggle against newer, fresher designed rivals. But without a viable replacement, Bogliq USA will continue to keep the Model 9 in circulation, “keeping the lights on”, until a bold young stylist can be found to build the next great Sportscar for America!

1973 Model 10 (Zealot)

The 1969 debut of the Z215 shocked the designers and engineers at Bogliq USA. Not only was the car cheaper than all but the cheapest of the Model 10 range, the Z215 was better on fuel than most of the range as well! This meant that the requirement to convert the Model 10 exclusively to 91RON was fraught with risk.

In order to mitigate the effects of the 91RON switch, all Model 10 powerplants were converted to use a simplified version of Bog-jet Fuel Injection (BFI). This technology isn’t cheap and, alongside the extra costs of the anti pollution gear, meant that the price of the 1973 model 10’s would rise further! This would mean that the 1973 Model 10 would be forced to compete on intangibles; brand loyalty, familiarity and patriotism.

The '73 Model 10 just had to hold the fort until more advanced, better performing, engines came online. The Bogliq management hoped that the American public would reward Bogliq USA for their good corporate behaviour in adopting the anti-pollution initiatives immediately, rather than stretching it out until the last minute.

1973 Model 11 (Mutineer)

As with the rest of the range, the Model 11 was prepared for the switch to 91RON unleaded fuel. Because the Mutineer was in such a hotly contested market, the switch to exclusive BFI throughout the range was seen as a potential chink in the car’s armour, but Bogliq USA wanted to use the marketing benefits of BFI’s superior reliability to negate the higher initial purchase cost. Although down on power over the older leaded versions, the Gamma powerplants were still smooth and responsive to drive, with only the stopwatch betraying the loss of outright performance.

Bogliq USA, in early adopting the new 91RON fuel standard, has weakened the Model 11’s ability to compete against the competition. The Model 11 will have to hope that improved reliability and customer loyalty will combine to ensure that sales don’t suffer too badly before the new drivetrains came online.

1973 Model 12 (Maverick, Coyote)

After the successful debut of the Model 12 models, and four solid years of decent sales, the update to the 91RON standard seemed counterproductive. However Bogliq USA wanted the painful transition to be as short a disruption as possible so the Model 12 wasn’t spared the 91RON axe. Drivetrains were adjusted to minimise the performance degradation felt by the customer, but it would take more than Gamma and BFI could supply to fully negate the losses.

1979 Model 14 (Zealot)

After the excitement filled handover of power to Michael in 1973, Bogliq USA went dark for five years. The new for '73 refresh models soldiered on throughout the 70’s while an all new model range and powertrain was prepared for debut in 1979.

The Model 14 was the replacement for the venerable Model 10 and was an evolutionary, rather than revolutionary, step forward. The big news was in the drivetrain, with a new, all alloy, Delta four replacing the Gamma unit. The entire range uses E-Bog Fuel Injection, an evolution of BFI, and all models are naturally aspirated…

1979 Model 15 (Mutineer)

The Model 15 was a very important model for Bogliq USA. It was the unofficial halo model of the Bogliq dealerships ever since the glory days of 1951 and the medium car market was the largest segment in the entire USA (not counting commercial vehicles). This meant that the Bogliq designers and packaging teams had to be extra careful when placing the Model 15 within the maelstrom that was the US car market.

The Model 15 was exclusively powered by Delta V6’s but the big news was the debut of the Bogtronic4 four speed automatic. Finally, an automatic was available that didn’t sap power and fuel economy while delivering almost nothing in return!

1979 Model 16 (Maverick)

As the largest of the broad appeal platforms in the Bogliq USA line-up, the Model 16 has the easiest job of the big three nameplates. Bogliq USA has always maintained the Maverick line as an aspirational goal for owners of small Bogliqs, and other small cars, to look to upgrade to “one day”. This doesn’t mean though that Maverick can sustain losses, rather that the Model 16 needs to convert enough cashed up buyers to pay its way.

In achieving this goal, the Model 16 is unique in having as many focussed niche cars as broad appeal models. The Model 16 is almost exclusively powered by the new Delta powertrains, but an old favourite has been re-engineered to fulfil a niche that no Beta, Gamma or Delta powerplant can possibly fill!

For the 1979 marketing year, the Coyote was spun off the Model 15 Mutineer, unlike the previous gen model, which was a cropped Model 12. This platform change meant that the Coyote had to downsize its drivetrains, but the change also benefited affordability, fuel economy and annual running costs.

The Model 17 was designed to ensure that anyone who wanted a fast, stylish coupe could find one at their Bogliq dealer. The lucky Coyote owner would then be rewarded with good performance, affordable running costs and excellent reliability to back up those stylish first impressions. Bogliq USA wanted to ensure that no Bogliq owner found their cars wanting in the one area that mattered: The ownership experience!

1979 Model 5 (Cargostar)

In an attempt at reducing the mammoth cost of refreshing the entire Bogliq range, Bogliq USA cut some corners where they could. One such corner was the 1979 Model 5 update.

Because the Model 5 was still capable of passing the mandatory safety limits for a passenger car, let alone a commercial vehicle, the Model 5 was facelifted rather than replaced outright. This facelift brought the Model 5 into legality with the new lighting regulations as well as the installation of a Delta four and 5 speed gearbox…

  • 0 -100 sprint: 10.7 sec
  • Quarter Mile: 18.07 sec
  • Top speed: 163 Km/h

It was expected that fleet buyers would like the continuity of the Model 5 over the shock of a new model. This means that most parts are interchangeable throughout the Model 5 updates with the reliability of continuous improvement. The carrot of the latest model 5 is that it has better fuel efficiency than its predecessor and the Delta four is more powerful and more reliable than the Gamma four it replaced.

1979 Model 18 (Squadstar)

Unlike the Cargostar, the Squadstar needed to be updated as Bogliq product planners felt that the safety of the Model 5 Squadstar wasn’t up to scratch, compared with the rest of the Bogliq passenger car range. Therefore the Model 18 Squadstar was born; from a steel box mounted on a modified Model 15 chassis.

The Model 18 was a major departure from the old model, with RWD and a monocoque chassis replacing the L-FWD and ladder configuration on the Model 5. The cab-over-engine design was awkward to drive initially, but once its quirks were learnt then it proved to be a wieldy and capable people mover…
