1973 Model 11 (Mutineer)
As with the rest of the range, the Model 11 was prepared for the switch to 91RON unleaded fuel. Because the Mutineer was in such a hotly contested market, the switch to exclusive BFI throughout the range was seen as a potential chink in the car’s armour, but Bogliq USA wanted to use the marketing benefits of BFI’s superior reliability to negate the higher initial purchase cost. Although down on power over the older leaded versions, the Gamma powerplants were still smooth and responsive to drive, with only the stopwatch betraying the loss of outright performance.

Bogliq USA, in early adopting the new 91RON fuel standard, has weakened the Model 11’s ability to compete against the competition. The Model 11 will have to hope that improved reliability and customer loyalty will combine to ensure that sales don’t suffer too badly before the new drivetrains came online.

1973 Model 12 (Maverick, Coyote)
After the successful debut of the Model 12 models, and four solid years of decent sales, the update to the 91RON standard seemed counterproductive. However Bogliq USA wanted the painful transition to be as short a disruption as possible so the Model 12 wasn’t spared the 91RON axe. Drivetrains were adjusted to minimise the performance degradation felt by the customer, but it would take more than Gamma and BFI could supply to fully negate the losses.

Compared to 1969, the clouds are gathering on the Model 12’s horizon. Performance sapping anti pollution gear has taken the shine off the large sedan, but it’s value for money remains attractive and it’ll still lope along the US interstates with a minimum of fuss…
1973 Model 12 (Coyote)
Anti pollution gear has hit the Coyote hard, with performance reductions across the board. But the adoption of BFI has improved the Coyote’s reliability in day to day operations and each car still accelerates hard, stops well and makes all the right noises!

1979 Model 14 (Zealot)
After the excitement filled handover of power to Michael in 1973, Bogliq USA went dark for five years. The new for '73 refresh models soldiered on throughout the 70’s while an all new model range and powertrain was prepared for debut in 1979.
The Model 14 was the replacement for the venerable Model 10 and was an evolutionary, rather than revolutionary, step forward. The big news was in the drivetrain, with a new, all alloy, Delta four replacing the Gamma unit. The entire range uses E-Bog Fuel Injection, an evolution of BFI, and all models are naturally aspirated…

1979 Model 15 (Mutineer)
The Model 15 was a very important model for Bogliq USA. It was the unofficial halo model of the Bogliq dealerships ever since the glory days of 1951 and the medium car market was the largest segment in the entire USA (not counting commercial vehicles). This meant that the Bogliq designers and packaging teams had to be extra careful when placing the Model 15 within the maelstrom that was the US car market.
The Model 15 was exclusively powered by Delta V6’s but the big news was the debut of the Bogtronic4 four speed automatic. Finally, an automatic was available that didn’t sap power and fuel economy while delivering almost nothing in return!

1979 Model 16 (Maverick)
As the largest of the broad appeal platforms in the Bogliq USA line-up, the Model 16 has the easiest job of the big three nameplates. Bogliq USA has always maintained the Maverick line as an aspirational goal for owners of small Bogliqs, and other small cars, to look to upgrade to “one day”. This doesn’t mean though that Maverick can sustain losses, rather that the Model 16 needs to convert enough cashed up buyers to pay its way.
In achieving this goal, the Model 16 is unique in having as many focussed niche cars as broad appeal models. The Model 16 is almost exclusively powered by the new Delta powertrains, but an old favourite has been re-engineered to fulfil a niche that no Beta, Gamma or Delta powerplant can possibly fill!

1979 Model 17 (Coyote)
For the 1979 marketing year, the Coyote was spun off the Model 15 Mutineer, unlike the previous gen model, which was a cropped Model 12. This platform change meant that the Coyote had to downsize its drivetrains, but the change also benefited affordability, fuel economy and annual running costs.
The Model 17 was designed to ensure that anyone who wanted a fast, stylish coupe could find one at their Bogliq dealer. The lucky Coyote owner would then be rewarded with good performance, affordable running costs and excellent reliability to back up those stylish first impressions. Bogliq USA wanted to ensure that no Bogliq owner found their cars wanting in the one area that mattered: The ownership experience!

1979 Model 5 (Cargostar)
In an attempt at reducing the mammoth cost of refreshing the entire Bogliq range, Bogliq USA cut some corners where they could. One such corner was the 1979 Model 5 update.
Because the Model 5 was still capable of passing the mandatory safety limits for a passenger car, let alone a commercial vehicle, the Model 5 was facelifted rather than replaced outright. This facelift brought the Model 5 into legality with the new lighting regulations as well as the installation of a Delta four and 5 speed gearbox…

- Fuel economy: 11.8L/100Km
- 0 -100 sprint: 10.7 sec
- Quarter Mile: 18.07 sec
- Top speed: 163 Km/h
It was expected that fleet buyers would like the continuity of the Model 5 over the shock of a new model. This means that most parts are interchangeable throughout the Model 5 updates with the reliability of continuous improvement. The carrot of the latest model 5 is that it has better fuel efficiency than its predecessor and the Delta four is more powerful and more reliable than the Gamma four it replaced.

1979 Model 18 (Squadstar)
Unlike the Cargostar, the Squadstar needed to be updated as Bogliq product planners felt that the safety of the Model 5 Squadstar wasn’t up to scratch, compared with the rest of the Bogliq passenger car range. Therefore the Model 18 Squadstar was born; from a steel box mounted on a modified Model 15 chassis.
The Model 18 was a major departure from the old model, with RWD and a monocoque chassis replacing the L-FWD and ladder configuration on the Model 5. The cab-over-engine design was awkward to drive initially, but once its quirks were learnt then it proved to be a wieldy and capable people mover…

1979 Model 20 (Nihilist)
The 70’s was witness to the decline in the Model 9’s fortunes in the sports car market. Tight, old fashioned interior and lack of storage and luggage space drove customers away while the strangled powerplant forced even the most determined Nihilist owner to hold onto their pre-smog model. So, the 70’s seeing the launch of an all new Nihilist in the Model 20 was rather fitting.
The new Model 20 had several revolutionary features that the Model 9 didn’t have, such as a fibreglass body and aerodynamic enhancements to the body. The only thing missing was the turbochargers, as the Powertrain division was concerned the fuel economy targets couldn’t be met with current technology.

1983 Model 14 (Zealot)
The debut and four year run of the Mk 1 Model 14 in 1979 was a mixed bag for Bogliq. On the upside, the Zealot was roomier and higher performing than ever before but, on the downside, the Model 14 was bland to look at and didn’t stand out against the competition. Prices were high and trim levels were unconvincing. All up the Mk 1 Model 14 was barely able to entice loyal Bogliq buyers to upgrade, let alone make conquest sales…
Therefore, it was with these problems in mind that guided the Mk 2 facelift. The front and rear design was refreshed, the suspension and brakes were fettled and the trim levels enhanced. But the big ticket was the introduction of Multi-Bog Fuel Injection to the Delta engine family. Power and efficiency increased and fuel consumption decreased. The Mk 2 was across the board quicker and used less fuel doing it. So the Mk 2 Model 14 had everything it needed to make sure that people chose to upgrade their next car to something wearing that distinctive Bogliq Blue…

1983 Model 15 (Mutineer)
Unfortunately for Bogliq USA, the Mk 1 Model 15 was less successful than hoped for, with the basic Engage model being given a paltry 87% by Motor World Review. The cars were too thirsty, too hard to drive and reliability wasn’t as good as it should be…
The Mk 2 Model 15 was tweaked to address these shortcomings and also improve on the Mk 1’s sports credentials. Multi-Bog fuel injection was a big part of this plan, as it provided more power with more fuel economy, plus better distribution of the Bogtronic4 to make family cars easier to drive than their Mk 1 predecessors.

1983 Model 16 (Maverick)
The 1979 debut of the new Model 16 was moderately successful. The new design language and new, more refined drivetrains was able to convert buyer interest into actual sales even as certain specific trims underperformed against expectations. These trims were the Engage, which failed to sell well, and the Enthuse 700AE, which didn’t sell enough to justify the differentiated body style.
For the 1983 Mk 2 refresh, trims would be re-positioned, new trims added and choices rationalised to ensure the Mk 2 Model 16 was better tailored to the marketplace’s needs versus the Mk 1…

1983 - 1986 Model 17 Mk2 (Coyote)
Unfortunately for Bogliq USA, the Mutineer chassis didn’t make for a convincing high performance coupe. The V6 and small capacity V8’s available in the Model 17 didn’t cut the mustard as performance engines and the solid rear axle was tricky to drive on the limit. This meant that the Model 17 didn’t sell anywhere near as well as Bogliq HQ needed it to. Worst of all, Motor World reviewed the base 240 Sport and gave it less than 87%!
The Mk2 Model 17 would attempt to improve the faults of the Model 17 that could be fixed. Unfortunately there were a number of faults that were inherent to the platform that would simply have to be mitigated. These issues would be addressed by installing engines with bespoke tunes and careful selection of trim and interior options. Hopefully the sum total of changes rendered would equal the budget coupe that the US consumer was looking for…

1983 - 1986 Model 5 (Cargostar)
As with the 1979 Model 5 update, the 1983 Model 5 saw the safety upgraded, power steering improved and the installation of a Multi-Bog injected motor. The interior was also simplified to improve reliability and reduce ownership costs. Otherwise the Model 5 was the same van that was on sale in the 50’s! If it aint broke then don’t fix it…

Fleet buyers like continuity and the Model 5 is a good design, capable and cheap, but it’s getting long in the tooth. Only time will tell how long Bogliq USA can keep this antique in production…

1983 - 1986 Model 18 (Squadstar)
The Model 18 was a decent seller to fleet companies who valued its cheap purchase price, 7 seat configuration and decent running costs. The Mk2 was designed to improve on those strengths without costing too much and pushing up the purchase price too much.
