King of the Hill (Round 6)

The short-tailed version (which I am planning to use) is not prohibited from use in this round as far as I am aware. Or is it? If it is, I’ll just use another body.

The long tail version is about a second faster round the track then my car is currently so yes I am using the short tail that is legal

As i don’t have any more time on my hands i’ll send it in as is.

OHHHHHHH I know what I forgot to do.

Instead of trying to reduce the cooling, I should have increased the stroke. Like, a lot. The change on reliability wouldn’t have been too bad if I sunk some Tech into the internals.

Also wondering how much engine layout matters in this instance. I didn’t play with that either. And i just went with a v8 assuming it would be easiest to use, but what if a v6 fit better???

So many things I didn’t bother looking at, I’m getting sloppy.

Well, I’m not going to win but can’t ignore a chance to have some fun with some 1970’s Le Mans. Hopefully I’ll learn something from this one though.

Niiice and fr too! Hilarious. I’m impressed you got the weight down so low but as usual there’s no replacement for displacement!

I was flicking through the bodies for suitable candidates and that one completely bypassed my attention. Then again I didn’t go that far back so.

Eight then and eight now :slight_smile: Removing the undercooling freed up reliability/finishing chance resource to bring the lap times back down.

Friendinand Broschef has decided to flex his guns and offer Furt a design for the race. He has called it the Broschef 653. It’s fast, bro.

(It’s the Porsche body if anyone is in doubt. Good old RR.)

Here is my entry for this round, the Kramer Motorsport Developments (KMD) K125A. Not the fastest, but very reliable (and street-legal to boot). Hopefully I’ll learn something from this round.

you don’t have nearly enough laps in it. You must beat Der_Bayer’s benchmark on both laps and finishing chance otherwise you’ll finish the race but lose to Firrara, and that’s… not the aim!

I have no idea how to cut the lap time down enough to outpace and outlast Firrara, but I still have superior reliability… How am I going to find out? By adjusting the suspension tune?

Yes, so you can reliably finish behind Firrara :joy:

(seriously, there’s ways to make the car a looooot faster, depending on the body you use.)

only by upping the revs by few hundred you would gain a second for sure and still outlast Firrara…

#Round 2 Results

The project teams have just received a letter regarding their LeMans concept. Here are the contents.

Furt Motor Company wants to thank you for your project proposal. Out of 6 submissions we were successful in finding a promising race car for next years Le Mans race.

While your car promises good track performance and might last well during normal road use, we would like to remind you that the 24h race has harsh requirements. We are especially concerned about the available cooling for the engine and cannot risk losing many cars to technical failures, especially as with the available budget only 5 cars would be in the race. The first thing I thought when I saw your reveal was “Oh shit, I didn’t remember that body” :slight_smile:

Don’t get me wrong, the Porsche is incredibly good thanks to its low drag and RR is wonderful for acceleration. But… It could barely fit 205 tires on the back and had 155’s at the front so changing direction was a bit of a challenge and I could only squeeze 4.1l of displacement into the boot with a V12.

I knew I’d have just about enough time to build one proper car for this challenge, not to do any testing on several bodies (aside from the first 5 minute check on the pantera body to get my bearings), so I took what I knew to be a very solid base and put all my efforts into that . However, with everything I learned from that, I did throw together a Large Coupe just now to see if it worked. It has about as much polish as a ball of yarn, but seems to have potential. I’ll let you see for yourself:

So what made my cars tick? The bottom line for this particular track seems to be: as much power as possible, as little drag as possible (forget about wings/lips and put +15 into aero quality which costs less than one might expect) and keep an eye on the fuel consumption when you’ve sorted the acceleration. I knowingly tanked the engine reliability because it only has a small effect on average car reliability and longer stroke means more power/better economy. I compensated for that with a couple of quality points in Trim which is fairly cheap at low range, provides reliability and doesn’t weigh anything. I think that’s about it in tricks, aside from elbow grease in suspension tuning.

Oh, on the large coupe I staggered the tire widths for better drivability.

First off thanks for the great challenge! One of the best stories I know from automotive history.

I do have an idea for a challenge, I’ll throw some formulae into an excel to see how it takes shape. I’ll seek to have a set of rules today or tomorrow.

Thanks also to everybody else who took part. @Rk38’s photoshop work, I think, is worth a prize of its own and I always know there’s going to be some blistering fast competition when AirJordan is involved (which is not to suggest the other cars involved were not fast).
