1960 - Lutoza is registered as car manufacturer company to be a rivalry for Seat as True Government supported company
1961-1980 - Rivalry between Seat and Lutoza where Seat focuses on track cars and Lutoza on Rally cars segments as extra.
1981 - Seat gives proposition forced by Government to combine both companies as one major to battle with All other Europeans companies.

2004 - Volkswagen gives historical proposition of cooperation.
2006 - Seat is now part of “Volkswagen Group”

Lutoza is Spanish car manufacturer that was Registered in 1960 with support from Government of Spain.
Their success to be second Spanish car company was due to information of small success of private build barn-class car Prototype 002 in Fruinia Rally in 1952. Government gave Lutoza group big funding to start a rivalry between Fiat (Italian) supported Seat and True Spanish Lutoza.

Lutoza cars are aimed at various sports car in various sizes. Those are mostly made to be cheap, available for Spanish customer and in later stages after 1965, as budget sports cars in Europe. There was some aimed at more prestige class cars, but they weren’t that successful.

Prototype 001 was First car constructed by group of mechanics working in Lutoza Mechanics & Junkyard. Made from spare parts and lucky finds in their junkyard provide a cheap solution to have a small family car to everyday use. It wasn’t perfect due to poor quality parts, but gave them first ideas on how actually build cars.

Deeper story

No 1 was poorly made with just essentials and painted in simplest white color available in workshop. It used as business-workhorse car to find more possible donators of spare parts and other future requirements for projects. One of mechanics actually tried to use it at midnight to check if it is fun to drive harder and it wasn’t bad. That pumped team to think about it more.

No 2 was later sent as Rally car for upcoming Fruinia rally race in 1952. Second was most polished one, with now on known Lutoza Green color and number 130. It actually used different parts than No 1, from not really a scrapped Light pickup. It was found not far from their workplace and owner didn’t want any money for it when he hear that they want to use it as base for rally car. Owner even ensured himself that mechanics gonna promote Spain with it to outside world. Thanks to this donator, truly history began.

#130 had some additional ideas from mechanics to give it a little more style with proper chromed parts and stylized addons near blinkers and on side of car. Badge on car was a mash-up of random intact badges of scrapped cars in junkyard. Whole project turned everyday mechanics into maniacs to produce most polished barn-car that could interest normal people watching it on rally. It took a lot of money, but it wasn’t a problem when owner of Lutoza M&J joined their ideas. It helped to make second car, the 002.

Achievements

Proto 001 participated in Fruinia 1952 rally. Mechanics did a briefing for Driver provided by Event host. They hoped that it gonna score good middle of the pack of cars participating in this race. It wouldn’t be possible if Mechanics didn’t send with the driver best one to work on any issue that could happen. It was just beginning of issues they discovered when rally actually happen.

Designed by an enthusiast and put together on a junk yard, no one is surprised when the Lutoza Prot. 01 has some technical issues in the first 50 kilometers. Apart from that, the car drives well.

The Lutoza Prot. 01 maybe lacks just that bit off power – at least in the rev-range the gearing allows – to send it up the steepest parts at competitive speeds.

The driver is clearly struggling with the gearing off the Lutoza Prot. 01, also caused by the power curve that doesn’t give much oomph early on. Further time is lost due to a stuck rear brake disc.

Overall Proto 001 Scored 13th place in 800-1399cc class scoring 22 points. Predictions were true which made a lot of joy to Mechanics and Owner of company.

Prototype 002 was Second car constructed by group of mechanics working in Lutoza Mechanics & Junkyard. Made from spare parts, intact body of unknown manufacturer and lucky finds around provide a quite agile, strong sport car. It had flaws, but overall it was a success needed for Lutoza team.

Deeper story

Proto 002 wouldn’t exist as is without a fact that it uses a car body without frame made by unknown manufacturer. Owners of it said that it is just a unfinished mockup that need to be scrapped quick. Some mechanics speculated that it could be some kind Seat Sport car due to fact it is only one existing car manufacturer that is Spanish here. Owner of Lutoza says it could belong to different barn creators in Spain that found they can’t finish it with their money.

Still after so many years later, speculations didn’t meet any truth and still it is unknown where it come from and who made it. It wasn’t wasted and that matters, mechanics quickly made space frame for it, and installed all parts needed for it to be qualified to rally regulations. Testing this car was a nightmare for Mechanics due to fact how horrible wheels they added to it.
After many tries to tame the beast, Owner decided it is time to take an Ace out of sleeve and buy proper Racing tires that still were available. Those installed are well known from '30 racing cars. At first there were many discussions if this is valid option, but testing gave a success. Car was very costly, mostly thanks to new tires and making V8 working, but effect it achieved was truly good one. Car had Lutoza green color with White hood and #166

Proto 002 participated in Fruinia 1952 rally. Mechanics did a briefing for Driver provided by Event host. Mechanics were sceptical if driver can tame it, especially when Gearbox isn’t a perfect match in a car. Fact that Best mechanic starts with 001, it was decided that leading mechanic of this project gonna ride with driver to ensure everything gonna be okay.

A second prototype of the Lutoza, this time with a small V8. The car is a pretty looking sports car to be developed by some car enthusiasts in a shed in Franco-controlled Spain.

Not the smoothest run of the Lutoza Prot. 02 on the dirt roads high into the mountains. There were a few spins, a few instances where the rear broke loose, but in general, the car seems reliable and stable for a DIY.

Incredibly well behaved from the Lutoza Prot. 02 on the ice, but a bump on the guard rails when the road starts to clear up and some hubris kicks in.

No technical issues, a promising drive, and only limited time lost. This was encouraging for the Lutoza Prot. 02.

Overall Proto 002 Scored 3rd podium place in 2200-3299cc class scoring 61 points. This made a milestone for Lutoza and gave them a evolution from just a mechanics working in workshop and junkyard into serious car company for Spain in general.
