Maine Motors Company - You deserve better

Maine Motors is an American automobile company, which evolved from a car workshop in south Iowa, in 1951. The workshop that predated the car company was opened in 1932 by Bill Powell, who mainly modified cars and turned them into hot rods, and as his business grew, he could start designing his first parts. After the Pearl Harbor attack, his workshop was given the job of designing engines for light military vehicles.

It was during that time that Powell learned all about designing and engineering, and, after the end of the war, in 1947, he started selling custom engines on request. The growing hot rod racing, along with the repair orders he received, allowed him to hire a bunch of engineers and, in 1951, buy the first factory.

Since that moment, Maine motors mainly centered in luxury cars, and later during the 60s, muscle cars as well. They’ve entered the mid-sized and compact (in American standards) market.

2017 Maine Motors Scorpio.

                             The pony car, perfected.

We’re proud to present the 2017 Maine Motors Scorpio. This is our conception of what the pony car should be; and for us, the pony should be a powerful, fun to drive sports car, yet somewhat practical and affordable.

Built on a monocoque AHS steel chassis, which offers safety and stiffness for improved cornering, and aluminium panels to save weight, the new Scorpio features an advanced double wishbone - multilink suspension design for optimized feel and cornering. The engine is mounted longitudinally and powers the rear wheels.

Speaking of which, develops 400hp from a 5L V8 layout. With twin throttle bodies, one for each bank, and direct injection, the throttle response will be optimal; peak torque is 465Nm and the powerband is wide, to allow economical driving as well. The engine is audible but not too loud, so that you can either enjoy the V8 rumble or talk to the passengers or listen to your favourite tunes.

The power is transfered to the rear wheels through a double clutch, 7 speed sequential transmission, with an automatic mode as well. The gearing is set up to provide a nice balance between comfort and low rev cruising, and sportiness. This allows the car to get 18.34 MPG (combined) yet accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in only 4.2 seconds.

You’ll find disc brakes all around, with 3 pistons up front and 1 piston at the rear. These allow the car to be stopped in only 28 meters. Inside the car, 4 clothed seats and a radio with touchscreen and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as the complete range of driver aids that you can turn off, wait for the driver to feel right at home.

In case of accident, multiple airbags will protect you and your passengers, as well as robust and firm seatbelts and a fatigue detection system to prevent these situations.

The suspension system is passive, for a more raw and sporty feeling, and it’s been set up for a good balance between driving ease and sportiness.

The new Scorpio can be yours for only $32250 (50% markup).

A simpler, cleaner logo will be used from now on.

It’s odd for a muscle or pony car to be available exclusively with a DCT, and 400 horsepower from 5 litres is somewhat mild. Still, it’s an attractive proposition.

THE COMPANY IS BEING MIGRATED TO UE4. THIS POST WON’T FEATURE ANY NEW CARS.
