Submit your fixture ideas for HardRooster to consider (All fixtures are Going Vanilla)

#1

All my mods are now going straight vanilla, so don’t look for future mods in the workshop, they’ll be in future game updates

Please Note: I’m not working on bodies or wheels, those are different categories of mods of which I’ve not attempted, and there are other members working on those

I’m working on more fixtures, and with the completion of these 80’s bits, I’m now open to suggestions and input. If you have an idea of what you want, please supply a photo or two, and preferably from a straight on angle if possible. Also, if it isn’t obvious, tell me what car it is.

Stuff that gets the most likes are what I’ll likely tackle first, so what do you all want to see?

If you didn’t see your idea on this list, it’s because you didn’t provide a picture, or I just missed it.

Hard Rooster’s 76 Series Mod Pac

In the mid 70’s the United States is celebrating its bicentennial with gas shortages, stagflation, horrible air pollution, and the recently revived Equal Rights Amendment has lost traction. For auto makers, new emissions regulations coupled with stubborn manufacturing and management styles is allowing Japanese auto makers to carve away at American market share with high quality fuel efficient cars. It’s the beginning of the malaise era for auto makers, and this mod pack is here to give you those not so fond 'meh’mories.

You get;

6 Grills
3 Headlamps
2 Vents
1 Indicator

Note: The indicator provided you’ll notice has trim only around three sides. This lamp is intended to work around corners on two different faces of the body. Refer to the images for ideas. It’s a bit hokey to work with, you may need to play with cardinal locking, rotation and reflectors to get it to work.

Hard Rooster’s 67 Series Mod Pac

It’s 1967, and the United States of America is about to head into what may be the most singularly momentous year of the century. The cars are getting more powerful, faster, the chrome is more modest, but the scent of Michelin Musk carries in the air from stop light to stop light. You’re going to need to strap on one of these grills, inspired by Buick’s, Pontiacs, Fords and more.

You get:

9 grills with 2 inserts/embellishments.
2 Vents
1 Fuel Cap
1 Miscellaneous Facia treatment.
1 pair of headlamps

Hard Rooster’s 56 Series Mod Pac.

It’s 1956 America, the jet age, the atomic age, the space age, and chrome is plastered over every conceivable concave and convex surface a car can handle. Auto makers borrowed heavily from the aerospace industry in their designs, and so does this mod pack

You get;
7 Grills, 2 of which are decorative add-ons intended for you to use with other grill elements.
6 Headlamps with 3 bezel designs, with or without cross-hairs. They also work as tail lamps.
2 Vents, One turbine, one plain
2 Indicators which can be used as tail lamps.
1 Door handle.

This is the first mod’s I’ve made and published, so feedback and issues will be appreciated. Let me know what’s working, what isn’t and I’ll do my best to get some fixes and update them.

How to get Thumbnails Working

This isn’t a mod, but rather a modding tutorial in reference to thumbnails. I’ve given this advice a few times, but this time it came out clean, organized and uninterrupted. So I saved a screenshot from Discord so I can simply reference it later for the next time anyone asks.

I think that modern day head- and taillights are somewhat lacking in the game and I think that the Dodge Charger is a good example.

I’m going to limit myself to the 5 6 things i’m really missing the most from a design standpoint. Personally I think the amount of light fixtures is already very decent, even more so when the above 80s stuff gets added. What i’m really missing is other ways to make our vehicles look more realistic.

License plate inserts (basically filled grille elements that have a license plate inside of them, but ones that don’t look awkwardly deep or make the plate stick out very far.), they really make or break a rear end design for me sometimes, and the current simple license plates don’t look well when you just slap them onto the back. These could fit well on either the trunk or bumper of vehicles. I have made a collage of a few of them:

It would be nice to have these in certain variants (rounded, angular, narrow, wide, with chrome/painted strip, without)

License plate brackets
Basically the opposite of the above-mentioned inserts, these should be simpler to do from a modelling standpoint, it’s basically a plastic block fitted with a license plate that always sticks out of the bumper and keeps the front plate readable, as it is right now, the front license plate either takes a chunk out of the bumper or curves with it. Which isn’t very realistic.

If possible, I’d like to see a deeper version that could stick back into the body of the car.

Windshield wipers
These should be pretty self explainatory, a few types (modern, classic, for headlights or rear hatches) would be really cool to have, i know it’s not going to be possible to make them functional, or to place them properly on the front window, but versions that can be placed infront or just below of the cars windows and lights would be really nice.

Parking Sensors
Another misc fixture, currently you can use fuel caps to imitate the look, but they never quite do the thing right.

Random trunk stuff
Keyholes with grips and random plastic blocks for the rear end, I wasn’t sure what the name of those were but i like the look of them.

And for this last one, I don’t really have a picture. But I’d like keyhole-less variants of the current ingame door handles. Having a Sedan or wagon with 2 pairs of key holes on each side is kind of weird to have.

Sorry for the long, picture intensive post, I tried to keep it limited to the things I was missing the most. Hopefully other people will agree with these ideas.

I would like to request some other licence plate formats for countries other than New Zealand.

This would make designing cars with equally sized, and correctly porportioned plates soo much easier.

I like all these suggestions. The rear plate frame idea is one I’ve thought about, it could be done in a similar fashion to headlamps, with bones and a skinned mesh so the plate stays flat and upright, you’ll notice the vanilla plates do that, they’re always flat, they don’t conform to bodies.

The stick out plate frames are a challenge I’d also like to tackle, but it’ll require me figuring out pod-light magic. I’ve made a plate frame before, but without any bones and it just looks like crap as it conforms to the shape of the body. Bent plates aren’t right, so you need the bones, the skinned mesh…then you need it to stick out from the body…and that’s the hard part that I’ve yet to decipher. So far, only thecarlover has figured that one out. But I’ll still give it a go assuming your post gets all the likes

Thumb buttons are easy, that’s not a problem. Same with backup sensors. I think I could even do the back up sensors in an array, so you don’t have to place them individually too.

Wipers would be an interesting challenge as well, I’d think you’d have to make them so the pivot and the blade are designed to morph to the body surface, but overlapping them on windows is not a likely option. Could possibly do a jankey tab or something, I dunno, but it would take some serious fiddling. It’s likely going to end up a limitation of specific bodies more than anything, since we can’t place fixtures on glass.

To everyone else:

I intend to get started on the next round of goodies on Tuesday, so get those ideas in to me soon!

The 9th gen Mitsubishi Galant Ralliart had some really cool looking head and tail lights.

The tail lights should probably be modeled without that integrated spoiler though… or with it, and then add the spoiler as a fixture… but that would probably never line up correctly on most bodies.

Galant headlights can have plenty of variants, since every trim level seemed to have different ones

The non-Ralliart version of the tail-lights didn’t have the integrated spoiler, so it may be a better base to start with.

Maybe more 2010s supercar fixtures? Like side vents, taillights, and headlights. imagesdownload

  1. Some less ricey wings would be sweet:

  1. Some hood fixtures would be also nut worthy

And for the memes:

OMG yes, a blower intake. That would be all of the fun.

1. I think the spindle grille fixture have to come up in the suggestion sooner or later.

  1. What I actually need are more lettering/typefaces for decals and badges, maybe something like:

  1. Additionally, small accessories could be useful for the aftermarket look.

Front tow hook:

Hood pins:

Decorative wheelie bars and parachute (I say decorative because I’m 99% sure it’ll fall off in BeamNG lol):

Or maybe go crazy and downright bosozoku exhausts:

An Aventador style vent would be nice to have.

Edit: This Volvo S60 vent would be nice aswell.

#17

But it wouldn’t fit any of the bodies…

#18

No it doesn’t directly fit but it’s useful for people that want to obscure part of it or just have some different shapes to play around with.

#19

The infamous Lexus spindle grill, would help get some really unique shapes going!

Here’s a smaller practical type fixture that hopefully wouldn’t be too much trouble to get working. The shape-carving fixtures in the workshop could be expanded on with more shallow and/or more rounded versions. They could be used as concave trim pieces, “fake” panel gaps, and could probably find other uses combined with other fixtures.

Something like the lines down the sides of an F50.
