On top of that, a color-coded windshield frame, and/or a less aggressive rear diffuser shape, may be considered.

Part 1: Ayuh, mari mulakan!

2018 - Pikemen HQ, Malaysia

A couple of Pikemen executives was gathering around to discuss their proposal that they have received from other studios and they have received around 22 proposals. More and more business talk, they walked outside from the meeting room and saw 5 cars that was pulled out from their warehouse and was ready to get some close inspection.

Pikemen Asri - @HelloHi

A bright orange coupe with minimalist design applied. Impressed by the executives, they kinda like with the design especially the front, look so simple yet so elegant. The side profile is fine and moving to the rear, it looks like it belongs in the 80’s.

The tailight’s shape is so square and blocky that it doesn’t belong on this car, it got that funky exhaust setup tho but it is a bit too over the top, eh?

Engineering wise, it got 2.9L Inline 5 producing up to 160hp equipped with six-speed manual. Huh, was expecting more power from that engine. But with that big kind of engine, the executives doesn’t sound impressed since engine size tax will be alot and people would probably avoid this car due to the tax and the underpowered engine.

Other engineering choices that this car has is fine and dandy but the executives decided to pass on this car and move on to the next proposal.

Pikemen Merdeka RS by Octane - @karhgath

Next up, a red coupe from Octane. First impression from the executives? That is some front end. It doesn’t look like any Pikemen lineup except the iconic DRL’s design and the front end looks pretty awkward with that squished looking front end. Moving to the side, the rims that they picked looks out of place and outdated and looks very custom-y too.

Nothing too exciting on the side profile, moving to the back. Their first impression on the rear is Mazda MX-5 due to the tailight, really close to the real one and they don’t want that. It looks pretty fairly standard and that square spoiler doesn’t do it’s justice on a curvy body, it needs more curvy and more suitable spoiler for the car.

Engineering wise, it got 1.4 turbocharged inline 3 producing up to 213hp which is pretty darn impressive coming from inline 3 and engine size tax is not that bad too. The car’s rocking on MacPherson and Semi Trailing Arm which is good for saving money and development time.

But, the executives decided to pass on this car due to how it looks but they were really impressed with the engineering that they might use it for future Pikemen models.

Pikemen X_cite RS - @BannedByAndroid

The only crossover proposal that they received. Quite an oddball but it’s too early to judge for now. Design wise, it is an oddball but the executives somehow liked the design. It’s weird and unique like the French yet it contains that Pikemen design language. The side profile is a bit overdone for a crossover with all of that side “vents”.

Although the rims is outdated but they blends in well with the design since it’s two toned. The gas cap that they choosen is weird too, it looks like it belongs in the 60’s race car. Moving to the rear, it has retained that Pikemen design language and really like on how it was designed although it is not quirky and unique design like the front.

Engineering wise, it is equipped with 1.8 turbocharged inline 4, producing up to 267hp. Not bad figures that they got and the engine size tax is fine too. The bodyworks in this is all fine and reasonable but MultiLink that they choose is what caught them their eyes. Fancy suspension setup but the executives are fine with it and approved this proposal.

Pikemen Merdeka by Mons Custom - @cake_ape

Next up, a mid engined sports car with gaudy looking wing. The executives are 50/50 on the looks. It looks good apart from that huge wings and small 16 inch rims with bad offset. But apart from that, they like the design. It fits in well with other Pikemen lineup and it looks like one.

Moving to the back, the exhaust position is a bit too overkill for them and the tailights and the lower fascia looks pretty high.

Engineering side, the car’s powered by 1.6 turbocharged V6 producing up to 205hp, pretty hefty and alot for that size and the engine size tax is not that bad too. The car’s running on Double Wishbone front and rear which is not bad and panel materials and chassis material is fine.

As much as the executives liked the car by design and engineering, they had to pass on it due to small rims and big wing that doesn’t fit well with the car.

Zephorus Espion - @Riley

Ah, a proposal from a well known company which is Zephorus and they proposed a rebadged car from them which is a not bad thing. The executives already liked the design when it rolled in to them. It looks really aggresive and nicely fit in with other Pikemen line-up. They have no complain about the front, really because they really like it on how it was designed.

Side profile is not bad and they love the black line touch coming out from the side vent. Moving the back, it still hold the consistency design from the front although they have one nitpick, the tailight design looks sad but other than that, it looks really nice and love the rear side vent that they designed.

Engineering wise, the car’s powered by 2.0L turbocharged inline 4, producing up to 265hp which is not bad for a car like this and engine size tax is not too high or too low either.

This car got your typical panel and chassis material and same goes to suspension setup, Double Wishbone front and rear. After a few minutes of small discussion, the executives approved this proposal.

All 5 cars that were proposed has been inspected and the executives did a small discussion and talk about the cars and head back to their own respective office to do their daily work again.

Part 2 coming soon!

Part 2

Day 2 of car reviewing from the proposals that they received, the executives once again showed up at the main showroom floor to continue with what they left of from yesterday’s review.

Pikemen Merdeka - @Aruna

Ah, another mid-engine sports car and man, is it a great looking sports car. The executives gave a positive feedback on the front as it was neat and nicely design that flows well with the design. Also, another point for atleast it looks like it belongs in Pikemen line-up. Moving to the sides, it is not too aggresive yet not too bland, it was a right mix but they were hoping the rims is a bit bigger.

Moving to the rear end, it looks like a stuffed hamster and that’s not a bad thing! It looks pretty cute and matched with the front. They liked the center exhaust and diffuser too. All of the design elements are neatly placed and well thought.

Swapping side to engineering side, the car’s powered by 1.8 naturally aspirated inline 4, producing up to 135hp. It’s not a lot for modern standards but with the engine that is in a car that weighs 1259kg, it’s not that kind of big deal.

Panel materials is fine but the chassis material is pretty outdated and not what they expected, it has galvanized steel and was expected this car to have AHS steel but it can be changed to other material if they picked this car.

The executives approved of this proposal after a few disagrees and agrees here and there.

Pikemen Tetikus R - @EnCR

Hmm, a sporty hatchback proposal. I mean Pikemen already has their own hot hatchback but why not having another hot hatchback? The front surely does resemble Pikemen with that iconic wing DRLs and big bottom grille. But it looks rather average and not so exciting for a car like this.

To the sides, it got that supercar sideskirt but it blends in well with the car with exemption of that weird body molding to the side. Moving to the back, the tailight surely does scream Pikemen and man, that is some nice looking diffuser, the executives loves on how they designed it.

Other than that, the lips on the roof is rather lackluster and wish they have spoiler on it. It looks weird with a a car with a big diffuser and small lips on the roof.

The car’s powered by 1.6 turbocharged inline 4 producing up to 209hp, quite impressive figures from a small engine that is easy on engine size tax. Panel and chassis material are just fine but the suspension setup that they have seems a bit too weird for a 200hp hot hatchback. Was expecting Double Wishbone but nope, doesn’t have those.

As much as the executives love this proposal, they had to pass on this car as they already got their own hatchback from their line-up.

Pikemen Merdeka by Sakai - @Reizei

Ah, another proposal from a well known company from Japan. Let’s see what they got with this. First impression? Not bad, the executives liked it. The car surely does fit in with other Pikemen as it has those design elements. The only thing they have things to say is the headlights, it’s a bit too short and was hoping it’s longer.

Moving to the sides, nothing too complex or something, just a simple side with Sakai logo or something on the C-pillar. Can be removed in the final production tho, it looks like last minute plan to put it there.

Moving the to the rear, another great design. The executives like the tailight cluster and the light shape too. The diffuser is not too complex but it still looks great.

Engine stuff in this car is 1.6 inline 4, producing up to 188hp. Just like the mid engined Merdeka proposal, it’s not that alot but in a car weighs around 1258kg, it’s fine and dandy. The panel and chassis material that they picked is not what they looking or was hoping for but it can be changed but the suspension setup is what they caught their attention. It got MultiLink on the rear but MacPherson on the front.

Minutes of discussion, the big men approved of this proposal.

Pikemen Jiwa! - @bilobilo

Oh another hot hatchback and it has big ani-

Oh, looks like the proposal isn’t fully finished and missing some important bits especially the engine. Oh well, the executives were ready to review it though.

(Binned due to didn’t follow the naming convention)

Pikemen Merdeka by Propeller - @Mikonp7

This one looks familar, because the front does really look like other Pikemen face that is copy and pasted on to the car. Not a bad thing meaning it can be reusing parts from others.

Apart from reused parts, nothing interesting on the side and moving to the rear, well… that’s definitely a tall rear if i recall one. It has cool and nice looking diffuser and wish the upper rear fascia isn’t so tall.

Moving to engineering bits, the car’s running on 2.0L turbocharged inline 4 powering up to 300hp. Wasn’t expecting a 300hp engine in this car since it looks like it has 200hp, to be honest. But, it uses nice and updated panel and chassis material which is a bonus for safety. Suspension setup is good.

The executives had to pass on this car as much as they love the car, it looks rather lackluster compared to others.

Pikemen Merdeka 1.7T- by Akari Design Centre - @vero94773

Dark bronze-ish colour coupe rolled into the showroom and the executives were giving a good sign on the car.

Definitely looks sporty and nicely designed. It got that long headlights which got nice internals but for the executives, it’s a bit too long for them. It looks like cross-eyed and the upper front fascia is a bit too low according to them. The hood scoop is a bit simplistic for a car with aggressive face.

Moving to the sides, the side vents is definitely eye catching here but a bit too over-designed but it’s their nitpicking stuff. The rims doesn’t fit with the car, to be honest. A blocky-ish rims design with edgy and sharp design on this car.

Other than that, seeing a roll bar in a coupe like this is weird and they had assumedthe roof structure of this car is probably weak which is a big no from the executives. Moving to the rear, the headlight sits way too high up on the back makes it look awkward and kinda goofy looking as it was quoted by one of the executives. Though, they like the internal designs of the tailights, really beautifully designed.

Into the engineering bits, the car is powered by turbocharged 1.7L inline 4, producing up to 196hp, not bad figure numbers, really and easy on the engine size tax too. Panels wise, nothing spectacular but it is doing it’s job.

Well, as much as the executives love the car, they had to pass it since they’ve been put off with the inclusion of the roll bar in a coupe which is a weird choice.

Pikemen Merdeka - @titleguy1

The colour itself already amazed the executives and the people who were in the room. It is strikingly beautiful. It is also retains some of the elements from previous gen of Merdeka which is a coupe with big cabin space.

The front fascia on this car is simple but it works, they were hoping they choose different grille pattern or remove the big black bar in the grille, it looks like last minute plan to put it there. Moving to the sides, it’s plain but it works on a car like this.

Moving to the rear, that’s where the car shines out the most. The tailights and everything is nicely designed and properly spaced out between each fixtures. The only thing that they don’t like is how small the exhaust is, hoping it is a bit bigger.

Engineering wise, it has 1.6L turbocharged inline 4, producing up to 197hp which is similar to the engine to the previous entry but .1 litre less which is better and good for the tax too. Panels wise, it got that corrosion steel which is a questionable choice but it can be swapped out.

Overall, the car is good on the outside and inside so this gets a pass.

Part 3

Pikemen Merlimau RS - @desperatedonut5

A yellow-flaked coupe rolled in the showroom and the executives can already tell that they gonna love it, judging by the looks.

Upon close inspection, the front-end is nicely sculpted and well designed with the flows and such. Though they wish the headlights wraps around the corner of the car since it looks kinda awkward with that position. Nothing’s too exciting on the side and moving to the back, it’s oversize-ville as they claimed.

The badging’s is pretty big and same goes to the tailight too, if it’s smaller it would’ve been nice. Also, the rear doesn’t fit well with the front. Squre-ish elements of the rear and edgy on the front.

Engineering wise, the car’s powered by 2.0L turbocharged inline 4, producing up to 161hp. That is disappointedly low amount of horsepower coming from this engine. Panels wise, it has partial aluminum which is a weird on a car like this and the chassis is on steel which is really no no from these guys, it’s outdated and not really safe.

The executives rejected this car due to the underpinning of this proposal is really lackluster and questionable despite it has nice design.

Pikemen Kelinci - @S_U_C_C_U_L_E_N_T

Another yellow coupe rolled in but this time it’s smaller and more cute-sy looking which is an always good thing in a car like these. Although the front is really hamster looking, it’s surprisingly flat with no body moulding applied to it with expection of side vents but that’s another different story. The DRLs on the bottom fascia doesn’t seems work with the design as it looks like it was last minute slapped on.

The side of the car is fine and moving to the back, not gonna lie. It looks like a Storm Trooper with that tall rear-end. Cute face on the front, angry butt. Nothing’s interesting on the back apart the aforementioned tall rear-end. Oh did we forgot to mention that’s it’s flat too? There’s body moulding above the diffuser but it’s not that noticeable and that’s all about it.

Accessing the engineering’s side, the car’s powered by 1.0L naturally aspirated Boxer 4 powering up to 103hp. Really impressive figures and perfect engine for a car in this size, same goes to engine size tax too, it’s relaxed. This car got partial aluminium like last proposal but it seems reasonable in a car like this. Everything else is your typical setup.

As much as the executives knew the public will love this cute looking car, they had to pass on it due to the exterior design is rather lack-luster with their standard.

Pikemen Merdeka - @ACoolCrab

Red coupe rolls in the showroom and it is really stunning red looking car. They love the front of the car, really sporty and elegant looking though they remind one of the particular French brand which is a not bad thing, modern cars looks the same as the old folks say.

Moving to the back, the rear is a bit too plain for their standard but it works. Other than that, nothing’s exciting and was expecting more stuff in the back.

Moving to the engineering stuff, it got 1.5L turbocharged inline 4 powering up to 200hp, really impressive engine with that size although the RPM limit can be lower tho, no need to go up to 7500rpm while the engine peaked at 6.5k RPM. Panel section, it got that partial aluminium again and that is fine for a car like this. Others are your standard setup.

Minutes of discussion, the executives agreed to let this car pass as they were satisfied with this one.

Pikemen Merdeka - @Aaron.W

Beautiful and sporty cars kept coming from these proposals. This bright yellow coupe is another great looker, not only it looks like Pikemen, it definitely got that awesome front splitter. On the side, it is quite plain and was hoping more complex molding rather than a straight line.

Moving to the back, it is still retaining that sporty and elegant looks like the front. Aside from the tailights is a bit too small and squinty, the executives got nothing to complain about as everything else looks perfectly designed and all good.

Powered by 2.5L turbocharged inline 4, producing up to 314hp. It got that big engine but it got that hefty amount of horsepower too which is not a bad thing. The bad thing is the engine size tax, it’s not gonna be that relaxed as other proposal.

Panel wise, it got that full aluminium body panel which is different from others. Not a bad thing but it’s acceptable in a car like this. Others are just standard stuff.

The executives agreed on this car and it passed the test or review rather…

Pikemen Custom Coupe - @Lazar

Although it doesn’t look like a Pikemen but it still giving that vibes though. Moving aside, it is definitely a futuristic looking sports car that they got. The executives already can see this car get facelift treatments up to 2024 before it went outdated design wise.

The front got that futuristic edgy design while the side disappoints them. it doesn’t have complex or edgy body moulding but instead they got a side vent that is small but it got that nice detail on the B-pillar of the car which contains the name of the company.

Moving to the rear, the tailight got that Panda effect where the outline is black making it looks like a Panda. Not that it is a bad thing, it was an obvious element they pointed out. Other than the tailight, it rocks that awesome looking diffuser that comes with big exhaust, it got that some aggresiveness from it.

The car’s packing by 2.0L turbocharged inline 4, producing up to 242hp which is good coming from this engine. The panel and chassis materials are all standard and nothing interesting to point out.

The executives agreed on this car as it met their standard.

Part 4 : Finale

Pikemen Merdeka - @kookie

Next up, a nice pink red-ish coupe rolls in and it’s an eye catcher, that’s for sure. The executives like the front of the car as it is nicely sculpted and flows well. One complains they got is they were hoping the main grille is a bit taller. Moving to the side, it is well sculpted too, although it is a simple indent but it works well with the combination of dark plastic side on the bottom.

The rear of this cars also looks great with it’s sculpt and indents it got. Though they wish the plate indent is a bit higher and the exhaust size a bit bigger too.

Opening up the engineering stats, the car’s powered by turbocharged 2.9 V6 producing up to 292hp. Although great power figures but the engine seems to be knocking quite alot and the power cut is another bad thing too. With the power cut that this engine got, it can be produced more and way beyond 292hp presumably up to 320hp. Panels and underside are nothing out of ordinary to point out.

A great looker car that is defeated by bad and questionable engineering, the executives had to pass on this proposal.

Pikemen Merdeka - @SyberRacer

A proposal from Kazuki, known for awesome RWD-powered cars, now they’ve got a proposal from them presumably to make a new relationship with Pikemen and getting some presence in Malaysia. Anyways on to the car itself, as the most obvious thing to point out, the car screams Kazuki design language but with Pikemen sprinkled into it. Not a bad thing but just to point it out.

But, that is a front splitter that can kill pedestrian’s leg. It sticks out very much from the car and it looks like an aftermarket kit for it. Nothing’s interesting on the side. Hopping to the rear of the car, everything is nicely designed and not too over cluttered.

One criticism that they had is the big chin spoiler on the back, it is so big that might as well put a normal spoiler or make it smaller. They like the diffuser that they had.

Flipping to engineering stats page, the car is powered by 2.4 turbocharged boxer 4 producing up to 223hp. The executives was hoping squeezing more hp from that engine. Nothing worth to point out in panel and underside side.

Another great looker car but weakened by engine that is not alot. The executives had to pass on it.

Pikemen Merdeka - @Urke101

The moment when this car rolled in, all of them firstly noticed the nicely and beautiful headlights that they got. It is certainly well designed and other good stuff that the author of this essay is just lazy to describe it. The bottom fascia grille is nicely decorated. Though the sculpting above the bottom fascia looks bare and hoping more depths instead of one single line of indent.

It got that interesting side profile especially the side sculpt, though it looks like it has moles underneath and looks pretty 2D and flat and last minute decision was applied on it.

It got that great face but not so great looking butt, the upper fascia especially the taillights sat way very high up there. The sculpt under the light doesn’t help either, making the car looks like it one of those statue in Easter Island.

Flipping to engineering side, the car powered by 1.6 turbocharged inline 4 producing up to 179hp. Not bad figures but was hoping more horses in that car. Panels are typical stuff and the underside setup is fine too.

Another lovely looking car but the rear of the car makes the executives goes not so satisfied. They had to pass on it.

Pikemen Merdeka 24s e.b Kaizen - @66mazda

The executives thought that this a kit car when this car rolled in due to rims size and inset. But anyways, this front looks so busy with the vents and such. Other than the vents heaven, the headlights that they designed looks weird at certain angle, sure it looks angry but it doesn’t seems to click to them. The hood vents are awesome looking though.

Moving to the side and aside from obvious the rims size is rather lackluster, the side vents is good and the sculpt underneath is a nice touch too. Moving to the back, everything flows well with the car and the fake side vent is a bit tilted to the side thus it looks it’s pointing upward and the diffuser is a great and nicely detailed.

Engineering side, the car is powered by 2.0L turbocharged inline 4 producing up to 241hp. Impressive figures coming from this engine. Panels and underside that they got is fine.

This one is vice versa, a not so great looking car (according to the executives) but got great engineering. The executives had to pass on it.

Merdeka - @Blothorn

Wow, look at that offset!

Moving on.

Jokes aside, this car’s got a good engine in it. It just the car looks like as it was imagined and designed by a toddler.

Pikemen Merdeka - @ThatCarMadGamer

Low and sleek as this car was described by the executives, they managed to make it looks like a luxury car although it isn’t. Maybe it’s the colour. Anyways, the front of this car certainly looks like it belongs with other Pikemen with that iconic grille and headlights that they got.

Moving to the side, nothing’s exciting but the side skirt is a nice little detail that they put. Moving the back, the tailights of this car stands out from the car, it looks very unique and nicely done. One minor pick from them is the inner parts was filled by something.

Engineering wise, the car’s powered by 2.0L turbocharged inline 4 powering up to 194hp which is oof. The 2nd previous entry got 2.0L turbocharged 4 cylinder and it produced more power in it but this one got underpowered engine. The engine doesn’t seems to belong in a car like this.

Another wasted potential on this great looker car especially the engine. The executives had to pass on this.

With all proposal that went through, the final results they got is 8 proposals. All of them are really good cars and that makes thing tough for the executives to choose from. Obviously they can’t pick all of the 8 cars, right?

They went a quick breakthrough of each cars, a few discussions and such. The final results that they choose is…

Winner of this round

CSC42: 5 Star Hypercar

Somewhere in Arion Automotive headquarters, 2020, North Yorkshire, UK.

Coming to the end of an era for purely combustion-engined cars, Arion are taking their first steps for their next flagship hybridised hypercar, with it’s aim to blow away the competition and look absolutely gorgeous whilst doing it.

Complete with a prestigious luxury road car and dominant auto racing history, the brand is known for it’s extremely high-grade cars. Their leaps in technology being a strong suit which keeps them ahead of the curve.

As their next assignment the design team are sent a set of rules and requirements, then asked to create their vision of the 2021 Arion hypercar. Their designs will be scrutinized by the current CEO and their team before going into the development stage to be produced.

Requirements

– Model and engine family and variant year set to 2020
– Must be a Mid-Longitudinal engined Coupe (Can be a convertible coupe)
– Must be a 2-Seater (Full seat) configuration
– Wheelbase must be 2.6m or larger
– Must have a Catalytic Converter, at least 1 muffler, and ESC as a minimum driver aid, generally following realistic standards.
– Car Market score, Price, Engineering and Production times will not be judged
The engineering time for engine and car will be a maximum of 400

Design

The name would be derived from either a constellation or type of bird (For example: Cassiopeia, Hydrus, Wren, Corvus.) as per standard Arion naming scheme. It can be a new nameplate or old, though the previous high-end Arion flagship super/hypercars were the Cassiopeia and Hydrus.

Unfortunately I do not have any recent 2020’s or even 2010’s Arion designs to help for inspiration, but some key words to keep in mind that define Arion’s image are: Elegant, Exotic and Luxurious.

RHD interior, as this is a British car company, though I will not penalise LHD but RHD is much prefered.

Engineering

This is basically free reign, but try keep it realistic to the standards of what you would expect from a top-class 2020s hypercar. Arion have a history of using the best technology they can at the time, even some forms not yet standardised (For example they first used Fuel injection in 1963.)

Arion’s high performance cars will usually make use of the unconventional V16 layout, since this is DLC it’s not required but if you have it, it’ll be useful to integrate it with the design. V12 and V10s would also be good choices, but I’m not limiting this to any one layout.

Priorities

– Follows Arion’s key words: Elegant, Exotic and Luxurious

I personally think that there should be a engineering and production time limit if the engineering of entries will be judged to prevent quality spam. Either that or judging entries purely by their design.
