The Street Showdown Challenge (OLD THREAD, MOVING TO NEW THREAD SOON)

For your question, is up to your choice. You can either make 3 different cars or a car with 3 different tunes.

Yes.

Just to clarify: Does the following mean that semi-active dampers and swaybars (including offroad) are prohibited, as are any spring types other than standard or progressive?

As for this one:

Does this apply to the entire trim and variant, or each individual slider?

And what about undertrays? Which types can we use?

Semi active parts are allowed.

As for the quality sliders, it’s applied to the each individual slider unless stated. Undertrays are prohibited.

Might be a dumb question, so… sorry in advance. Will we be doing any of the driving? Or are you driving our creations for time?

Driving will be conducted in Automation by me. I also currently creating some tracks on Automation for that.

Update #1

The SSC Race Info and Rankings are now up! Users can view what tracks will be used on the race and also get some info on the night time events!

UPDATE: Whoops. Forgot to actually share it.

And yes. Hold up my friends, I haven’t announced the start of entries yet. Stay tuned for more info.

UPDATE: Due to technical reasons the entries are closed for a while. Stay tuned.

Wait, you opened entries before the real serious questions from veteran hosts about your ruleset were even asked. I’ll start with these:

  • Are those PU and ET limits for all tiers? Seems to be a bit weird that you’d allow for fully upgraded parts right from the bottom tier. Same with the component limits. Why are you insisting that the base car have carbon fiber pads?
  • It makes no sense to not allow any undertray for the cars especially for upper tiers. Why are you doing this?
  • What parts are you allowed to change between the tiers? Can I include an AWD conversion for my formerly RWD car? Can I do some weight reduction and take out all the crumple zones and strip the panels out etc.?
  • I get the power limits but at the same time you’re simply asking for the smallest lightest cars possible here. Are you sure you don’t want to make that a power to weight ratio? The caveat to that is that higher power means higher top end acceleration so you will want to balance that out by making the tracks a blend of speed vs technical

In short I just find the entire system of the progression of tier 1 through to 3 based on power alone to be vague and players are probably going to need a bit more guidance, given the games that have inspired this rule set.

Oh god. What I have done lol.

TBH I really want to start the event soon but yeah, mistakes do happen since this is really my first race competition ever started. (I know about the ECC but that’s binned for reasons)

  1. For the PU and ET limits, I may do an update as well. Also, I may consider that normal vented discs too. Most of this are just me having a massive oversight.

  2. SMALL CHANGE IN RULES: Downforce undertrays are allowed for T3. As for T1 and T2 the most I can accept is fully clad.

  3. Well for this, Tier 1 is mostly stock or lightly tuned vehicles (with the necessary changes ofc), Tier 2 is moderately tuned vehicles (aka upgraded engine parts, body parts, etc.) and on Tier 3 is for cars that are heavily modified (eg. engine swaps).

  4. ANOTHER SMALL CHANGE IN RULES: Tier 1 lowest weight should be 800 kg, for Tier 2 it will be 1200 kg and Tier 3 the least I can accept is about 1450 kg. This is imposed for not making a very light car to bend the rules.

@strop Thanks for the reminder, otherwise this competition may become a massive trainwreck lol. If you have any more questions or want to give me suggestions please reply to me. I’m welcome for any input.

Late at Night past Midnight.
Location: Sokai City

In an apartment looking out at downtown Sokai City. The room was silent besides the sounds of running water from a shower in the room. The water turns off and a young woman steps out to dry herself and slips on an thin outfit to sleep for the night. When suddenly her phone begins to ring.

Ring Ring

She picks up the phone as the caller ID reads the name Walker. She smiles and answers.

“It’s been a while. I’m taking you’re calling because you have something exciting to tell me.” she replies.

“What makes you say that?” the voice on the line asks.

“Well you know me. I don’t like clubs and parties. The only thing that really excites me is being behind the wheel with a prize on the line. And you are the person that gives me the word about events. And trust me I’m bored since the season came to an end.” She tells him.

“Well a little birdie might of told me there was something, I was going to ask if you may be interested, but it seems I didn’t really have to ask.”

“When and where will it start?” She asks.

“2 weeks, San Diego. Shall I tell them?” he asks.

“I’m sure you already know the answer to that question. Don’t you now?” she says teasingly.

sigh “I know you never turn something like this down.”

She giggles
“Well, anything else?” she asks.

“Hmm… I’m taking you’re about to call quits for the night, I must ask, what are you wearing?”

“It’s a secret!” * muah *
She hung up the phone and walks to the window.

“2 weeks…” she pauses. “Better get them ready until then.”

To be continued.

Small updates:

  1. I also now accept any kind of brakes now. Just make sure the brakes are enough for the car.

I’m actually interested in making a challenge like this work because I think people would rather like to take part in something tuner whether you were into NFSU NFSU2 NFS Carbon NFSMW NFS Pro Street NFS Shift NFS Shift 2 NFS The Crew or… anyway. I also had a car that was very close to fitting to these rules except I dunno if I have the time to style, but anyway.

In general I feel the only way to make this really work as intended with the tier system is to actually impose some very specific limits on what parts can be used with what. It’ll be a bit of a hassle to write out, but formatted clearly, and each tier can be considered separate so it shouldn’t be that hard.

I would not recommend this because that would really stuff up the people who want to tier 3 their supermini (I mean, early iterations of Gran Turismo were fairly liberal in allowing you to turbo the fuck out of some of the cars and only a few of them ended up stupid ridiculous).

So the other reason I’m interested in the ruleset of this challenge is because I’ve been trying to think of a way to classify cars on their performance potential, much like the performance rating of Forza etc. etc. but it’s really tough. A hybrid of power to weight ratio and power is to me a good place to start because at the lower tiers you won’t see any benefit of AWD drivetrains, for example.

Something that has to be considered is also tires, as they do make a world of difference in cornering-speed and overall grip. Wider tires (up to a point) is always better, so setting a maximum tirewidth is good but maybe even set given compounds for the different tiers (medium for tier 1, sports for tier 2 and slicks for tier 3 maybe) would help to get it somewhat more balanced.

And aero is very powerful, given the right application, so maybe restricting the amount of downforce/ tier would help to, and the amount of wings useable. Tier 1 get one wing to play with, Tier 2 gets 2 and tier 3 gets 3?

And another thing i’ve been thinking about is restricting turbos to a max bar setting for some groups of cars to get them competetive with NA engines, and same for cams, limit them to, lets say 70 max for “normal cars”, as a very small number of cars come with cams able to have a great deal of modification done to them. The same thing can be said about all internals in standard engines. Most of them don’t take all that well to tuning or high compression. But all this makes for a very limited set of modification. It’s probably possible to make a even group of cars with diverse engines and drivelines but it’ll probably come with a lot of limitations to them.

I was thinking about this. Let’s just say that with the right power restrictions, having too much aero on a Tier 1 or 2 car would be merely disadvantageous.

I do agree that to mimic the conditions of the games, each tier could come with a boost limit on any turbo. Say, 0.6 bar for tier 1, 1.0 bar for tier 2 and unrestricted for tier 3, but, again, if anything a hybrid of power to weight ratio and power limits would actually mitigate all this.

My suggestion to android earlier was to try this:

Tier 1: maximum 200hp:ton or 200hp whichever is lower
Tier 2: maximum 400hp:ton or 400hp whichever is lower
Tier 3: maximum 600hp:ton, but no absolute maximum to power.

I was also going to suggest that only tier 3 cars can convert drivetrain type (to AWD). Even at 600hp:ton, a well tuned, lightweight car will actually still be faster RWD than AWD if the weight distribution is favourable.

How about a Engine swap system otherwise its im possible to use old cars right? (If not let me know) I mean for example its ok to change the engine but only 4 Cylinder engines with 4 Cylinder 5 with 5, …
For example a old nongti can have the engine out of a newer nongti, noncivic stuff like this.
And this in every class.

So, I have some real talk here. Since the tiered system sounds nice on paper but horrible on execution, will you want to change my rules to fit in a single car OR keep the current system going? Don’t be afraid, I can accept both answers as well.

Here’s are the pros and cons for each scenario for transparency ofc:

Keep the current format:

+ Ease the process of making a new car for those who made their stuff.
+ Can make an earlier start.
- May cause issues on my end if the race is on.
- Would cause confusion to people for the format while building stuff.

Change it:

+ Races would be more fair and square.
+ Rules will be more easier to understand.
- Could make those who did the current entries feel a bit unfair.
- I would need to rework the game as well, causing more time issues.

  • Keep the current format
  • Change it

OK, I listen to you guys. Since most of you wanted to change it to a single car then I’ll listen to you and change it as you all wanted.

I’m sorry for those who have made your cars on the old rules, since you have made the cars and I had to change the rules for some reason.

As for you haven’t got the cars yet, I’ll will post the new rules soon.

As an apology, I officially announce I will raise the driver limits to 20, and I will add more races to the series. That means, more people to join and more interesting events for everyone.

And those who actually have their old cars made and sent to me, I will give you a slot first, but make sure you make your cars for the new rules first.

I swear, after I settled this, I will officially announce the start of the game. Sorry for the inconvenience.

UPDATE: Changed back to 20 people due to the current points system isn’t really 25-people friendly. Sorry for the problems I made.
