Tokyo Motor Show 2019

The All-New 3rd Generation Tanaka Atlantis for 2020

For the first time in history, Tanaka will have a dedicated reveal room in the Tokyo Motor Show. All the journalists went inside the room and wait. Then, 4 girls open the cover to reveal 4 cars. Introducing, the all-new Tanaka Atlantis.

From left to right: Tanaka Atlantis 2.4 B, 2.4 G, 3.0 G and 3.5 S

The Atlantis has always been Tanaka’s mid-sized sedan. With the previous generation produced all the way from 2010, it is clear that the market and us demanded a new generation.

Tanaka Atlantis 2.4 G shown

Design

Again using this body and design language, it is a hatchback/fastback sedan. The front is similar to the recently-revealed Tanaka Aventis at the 2019 Frankfurt Auto Show. But some revisions were made to differentiate the car such as the front lower grille. But still retains the big front Tanaka grille visually connected to the headlights. Like the new Tanaka design language, the door handle is visually part of the side trim piece. The fuel cap is right beside the taillight to blend in even more. Again, the blacktail design still applies to this. The black roof with part of the trunk being black makes it look virtually one piece.

Interior

Being a Tanaka, the interior is also a high expectation. For the 2.4 G, standard synthetic leather was used with piano black trim and a Tanaka Premium Infotainment System used. For the 2.4 G and 3.0 L, premium real leather was used with piano black trim with a Tanaka Premium Infotainment System used. For the 2.4 L and 3.0 L, same interior as the G models, but with wood trim and a Tanaka Premium HUD system together with the Tanaka Premium Infotainment System. For the 3.5 S, it uses a brushed aluminium trim with the Tanaka Premium Infotainment System. All trims come with ambient lighting.

The chassis of the Tanaka Atlantis 3.0 L shown

Engineering

It shares the same chassis as the Aventis, but was made longer. Of course, AWD is standard across all trim models for easier control and all-weather capability. Like the Aventis, the usual torque converter advanced automatic transmission is replaced by a DCT to reduce power loss and increase fuel economy.

Ursula AG Official Press Event @Tokyo Motor Show 2019

TOKYO: Ursula AG has officially announced it’s latest iteration of the E-series supercars under it’s Ursula RennSport division, the new Ursula E2 in Tokyo this week. The E2 is Ursula’s latest supercar offering, and with the plethora of new tech included, the E2 is certainly the performance icon for the next decade.

Highlights:

The all new Ursula E2: Striking the Future.

https://i.imgur.com/K494Thx.jpg

The all-new Ursula E2 is now officially announced in this show on Tokyo. It serves as the replacement of the E1 supercar, which was launched as a limited run of 400 units from 2010 to 2015. Like the E1, it was built from the ground up with no relations to any Ursula model.

https://i.imgur.com/1y7F1k5.jpg

The E1’s turbo boxer-6 engine is now officially replaced by a biofuel-powered 3.6 V8 twin-turbo producing 655 hp. Despite the larger size, it’s more lighter with the extensive use of high-tech materials and production process. Each engine was handbuilt by master craftsmen to ensure the quality and consistency of the vehicle.

Whilst the new power unit has a small power deficit that led to a much modest 655 HP, compared to the boxer-6’s much impressive 755 HP, the car is still no slouch either. With a lighter carbon fiber shell and wheels, more aerodynamic design, and the use of electric motors made it a better performer compared to the E1. A higher top speed, much quicker 0-60 times and a more agile driving experience is the result of this improvement.

https://i.imgur.com/1YVBFAn.jpg

The E2 is also equipped with the advanced eDrive direct-drive transmission. Unlike conventional transmission units, it employs a direct drive mechanism to power the electric motors around all 4 wheels, creating an unique setup which works on any situations. At lower speeds, the electric motors does it’s job, but in speeds above 60 km/h the V8 will take over the job to help the vehicle gain faster top speeds.

Despite the advanced setup, the E2 is 20% lighter than the E1, and with the new technology and smart placement the E2 allows for a much lower center in gravity, improving vehicle handling in the process.

https://i.imgur.com/alnP3yu.jpg

Luxury is always a feature on all Ursulas, and this is no execption. The interior is created for the driver in mind, with lighter and more premium materials, more comfortable seats, AMD Ryzen-powered Ursula Command Center, and a specially designed high-end sound system by Sennheiser creates an unique experience to the drive itself. It’s a light car, but it’s not light on features.

https://i.imgur.com/gCBXwVi.jpg

Like the E1 that preceding it, the E2 is also a limited production vehicle as well, with 400 units confirmed to be produced in Ursula’s advanced Mannheim factory. With that said, each vehicle can be tailored to user’s specifications by special order. Prices will be confirmed later and all sales will go live on spring 2020.

It looks like it came straight from the streets of Diesel City, but what good is a classic car without a petrol or diesel engine? At best, it’s nothing more than an expensive garden ornament. However, with a 450-kilometer range and 0-60 mph in just 2.1 seconds, it should dissuade anyone from ignoring it just for being a pure electric vehicle. Automation still does not support electric drivetrains at the moment, though - so what kind of petrol engine did you use to simulate one?

Honghu Press Event - New 88888888

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I’m not even motivated to write anything

Honghu is proud to announce the production model of the 88888888 - the official vehicle of the chairman.

A Revised Design

With the input of various design firms, the Honghu 88888888 has evolved far from the concept, encompassing the traditions of the mainland, flaunting its innovations, and tying them all together through a harmonious Feng Shui.

The front fascia has changed completely from its concept iteration, which now maintains a sense of elegance, in interplay with its commanding front grille.

The rear complements the sharp front, with our new taillight design which emulates the silky flow of a waterfall.

Interior (via. the original thread)

Your comfort is our priority. Rosewood and jade trim separates all the leather inside the vehicle. The same wide screen from the Jinhe GC is seen on the 88888888, while Jinhe’s AI-based avoidance system is also standard. The dashboard and switches are either lined with chrome or chrome altogether with the shifter being one large jade unit. A box on the passenger side holds a fake peony inside of it, symbolizing honor and high social class. The rear seats recline, giving the passenger a view out of the large sunroof typically used by the chairman to stand out of. A large rear screen contains satellite reception for television and built-in internet access. Live maps and an internet browser are also included into the system.

The civilian version of the Honghu 88888888 starts at roughly $405 000 USD (¥44 000 000). More Info can be found here. DM us for test drive inquiries!

Introducing the Maesima’s First 100% Electric Vehicle Prova Activ-E

TOKYO, Japan – Maesima today unveiled the Prova Activ-E, ushers in a new era of mobility for Maesima - the zero-emission era. The car is the embodiment of Maesima’s radical, transformative vision for the future and the culmination of decades of investment and research with our partners at Saminda.

(Clockwise from the top left: Prova ST-R, Prova Xz, Prova Tz, Prova ST, Prova STz and all-new Prova Activ-E)

The Prova Activ-E is Maesima’s first 100% electric car and together with the Activ-EQ hints at the new direction of Maesima’s design language and how it helps bring to life our vision for the future. Taking our crtically aclaimed Prova model and adding zero emissions 100% electric power offers customers for the first time a chance to engage with our brand in a new way.

Key characteristics of the Maesima Prova Activ-E include:

  • Zero-emission power train and platform
  • Affordable pricing
  • Distinctive design
  • Real-world range autonomy - 400km (240 miles)*
  • 36 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery
  • recharge in just 30 minutes*

The Prova Activ-E is a critical first step in establishing the era of zero-emission mobility; however, Maesima recognizes that internal-combustion engine (ICE) technologies will play a vital role in global transportation for decades to come. Because of this, Maesima is implementing its zero-emission vision through a collaborative approach, partnering with Saminda to provide consumers a comprehensive range of eco-friendly technologies within an affordable and sustainable outlook.

For some consumers, the Maesima Prova Activ-E will be the perfect match, and the only car they will ever need. For others, the Maesima Prova Activ-E will be a logical addition to the family fleet - the optimal choice for the daily commute, for example. But for others still our ICE powered Prova variants will continue to offer customers the choice to find their ideal mobility solution.

The Maesima Prova Activ-E is the first in the company’s forthcoming line of EVs and is a major milestone in the realization of the companies vision for zero-emission mobility. The first of Maesima’s EV’s will be manufactured at Wuhu, China, with additional capacity planned for Toluca, Mexico. Meanwhile, lithium-ion batteries are being produced in Japan, with additional capacity planned for the USA, China and Anikatia, and other sites for investment are under study around the world.

*using a dedicated public charging terminal 80% of the charge being reached in 30 minutes. Using a conventional domestic socket or for a full charge in 16 hours. The actual range in practical application deviates as a result of factors including driving style, speed, use of convenience and auxiliary consumers, outside temperature, number of occupants, the load carried in the vehicle as well as the topography. Depending on the usage profile, 80 percent of drivers should still be able to cover between 200 and 300 kilometers.

Maesima - Saminda Expand their Global Collaboration

  • Maesima to continue to work closely with Saminda on sports vehicles partnership as demonstrated with the Sagitta-CZ5 vehicles.
  • Maesima and Saminda to work together on all-new electric modular architecture and Saminda-Maesima Global Architecture (SMGA)
  • Maesima and Saminda are on track to develop electric vehicles for each brand in select global markets starting in 2020; sharing development costs to generate significant synergies
  • The Maesima-Saminda global alliance - which does not involve cross-ownership between companies - is expected to create annual efficiencies for each company

TOKYO, Japan, – Maesima Motor Corporation and Saminda Motor Company today announced they are expanding their global alliance to include electric vehicles and a jointly developed all-new modular electric architecture - positioning both companies to better serve customers while improving their competitiveness and cost and capital efficiencies.

Saminda President and CEO Yuko Nagoya and Maesima President and CEO Mae Sang-chul announced the next stage of the companies global alliance today in Tokyo.

Yuko Nagoya commented “We are expanding our alliance with Maesima with strategic goals in mind. Firstly, we want to establish SMGA as the industry standard for electric vehicles. Together, Maesima and Saminda sold around 8.4 million vehicles in 2018.This gives us great leverage and significant economies of scale. And size makes a difference – both in electric mobility. Together we can seamlessly serve global markets and better utilize our automotive plants to optimize the supply chain.

Adding "I am delighted that Maesima has become the first partner to use our electric platform as the basis for a jointly-defined vehicle project.

Mae Sang-chul said “We are extremely pleased the Saminda offered us this cooperation. We can contribute Maesima’s agile product development and our well placed supply chain allowing for significant economies of scale allowing us to make individual mobility CO2-neutral, safe, comfortable and accessible to as many people as possible, this is a the power of the SMGA platform.

The beginning of this electric partnership with Saminda that started back in 2016 when both companies signed an agreement into the research and development of future lithium-ion battery cell technologies.

The dynamic development of lithium-ion batteries from that research by Maesima and Saminda were key for the success of the newly developed generation of electric vehicles that will be produced from 2019 and will be available from 2020. As the first model of the partnership will be the Activ-E trim of the Internal combustion engine (ICE) Prova model – an affordable, four-door, compact car.

The Prova Activ-E will use a 36 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery cell originally developed for the Saminda C+ electric vehicle that has the range of up to 400 km on a single charge. The Lithium-ion polymer battery cell provides lower memory sensitivity, excellent charge and discharge efficiency along with outstanding maximum output. Allowing for rapid recharge in only 30 minutes using a dedicated public charging terminal.*

Saminda has already begun its EV journey with the launch of its all electric C+ in December of last year for select markets and the beginning of this year for the US. It’s success have paved the way for future of electric mobility and now together with Maesima both companies will be working towards a single modular architecture to lower costs and make an electric future for all.

Zenshi at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show

At home, Zenshi has provided a display of a handful of their current lineup, with two models taking the “center stage” of the booth, one being a refreshed veteran, and the other, a fresh new face.

2020 Zenshi XLander

Whenever it comes to off-roading, there exists some customers that prefer to not break much in the bank, or are, perhaps light packers in an active lifestyle. While the idea of a micro offroader is relatively niche in the market, Zenshi has made the decision to show their contribution into the market.

The Zenshi XLander (pronounced Cross-Lander) is Zenshi’s newest addition to the off-road lineup, and possibly their most outlandish one as of recent; it’s a kei car.

Using a modified Taiko Hama chassis, resized to fit itself within the regulations of kei car dimensions, the XLander is what can be considered the “wild child” kei car, akin to Suzuki’s own Jimny. Because of the decision of restricting the XLander to such specifically small dimensions, the XLander is armed with a 659cc Turbocharged Inline-4 engine making 63 HP and 72 lb-ft of torque. Transmission options include a 5-Speed Manual standard, or a 5-Speed Automatic.

The XLander takes multiple design cues from older off-roaders, such as the 4th generation Pike, with asymmetrical taillights, as well as a side-opening tailgate.

Zenshi expects to release the small off-roader in Japan during the holidays. With the help of Kiwami automobiles, there will be a larger version of the vehicle soon.

2021 Zenshi GT

The eighth generation Zenshi GT will officially undergo it’s first refresh in the 2021MY, with the prototype making it’s appearance here in the Motor Show.

Prototype shown in Typhoon Blue Metallic.

Also for the 2021MY, Zenshi’s lineup will undergo a change within the trim nomenclatures, starting with the GT itself. displacement is to be denoted in 3 digits, topped off with the trim grade designation (compare: 4.8S to 450S, GTS-25 with 250GTS).

The 2021 GT has a variety of improvements up it’s sleeve, with one of the core enhancements being driving dynamics. Now lighter and more nimble than the currently sold variant, the new GT is expected to finish a lap around the Automation Test Track a full-second faster than the GT 4.8S.

Styling-wise, the 2021 GT expresses a similar aggression that the current one boasts, but at a more muted level. Lighting, specifically at the rear, has been redone to fit in better with design flow, the rear diffuser area is much less pronounced compared to the current variant, and side venting has been reworked.

Starting at the 2021MY, the SA48-GDA engine will be dropped for a newly developed V8 engine, the SZ45-GDA. The naturally aspirated 4.5L V8 is based on the GTZ 500R’s SZ50-GDA2T Twin Turbocharged 5.0L V8, and cranks out a fierce 472 HP and 360 lb-ft of torque.
Transmission options include a traditional 6-Speed Manual or Zenshi’s updated AvanTec-7 7-Speed Automatic with column-mounted paddle shifters. With the usage of the 4.5L V8, weight has been drastically reduced, and F/R balance is slightly improved.

The 2021 GT is planned to come with three engine options; the 4.5L V8, and two turbocharged Inline-4 engines, 2.0L and 2.5L, respectively, and is projected to release summer 2020.

Tokyo Motor Show 2019 Show Coverage

Hello! It’s William back at it again. With all the cars revealed, I am now going to do a coverage on the entire show. Let’s start!

Saminda has revealed the C1000R. It is a sports kei car, but looks cute. Don’t expect much in the power department as it is a kei car, which is restricted by regulations to only have 63HP. This means that we should have high expectations for the handling. I really like the red soft-top roof with the black body.

Kurokama revealed the Kurokama SC A iRS. It is suppoesed to be a sportier version of the SC line. 250HP and 275nm of torque seems to be enough to have some fun.

Tanaka has revealed their new mid-sized Atlantis. It looks quite good. I like the fastback. The blacktail design which features the black roof with the black trunk might throw off some people, but it definitely gives it a unique look. I am considering the 3.0 L version to buy.

Ursula is here with the E2, the brand’s latest supercar and I’ve got to say that it is striking. It looks quite classy. The turbo boxer-6 is replaced by a hybrid 3.6 litre twin-turbo V8. This surely makes the E2 sound better than the E1. But it is less powerful. But lighter. This makes the car surprisingly faster both in top speed and acceleration.

ClassicWorks revealed the ClassicWorks Elex. It is supposed to be an all-electric supercar. I like it, but it’s not my type. But very dieselpunk indeed.

Python showed up with the Essecia Concept. It looks very striking and unique. I like the rear, very unique indeed.

Haruna revealed the 2020 Isekai. My friend who is a construction worker have a 2007 Isekai. With this now revealed, I could recommend this to him. With the diesel, it is going to be very durable and reliable.

Cascadia showed up with the StreetK Concept. When I first looked at this, I was like “Woah!” That grille is an absolute unit. Again, it’s a kei car. Grille aside, I think that I might buy my wife this (production version of course!) to travel around the busy streets of Singapore.

Honghu revealed the new 88888888. It looks classy and prestigious, something a chairman would drive. With such a luxurious interior, I feel like the president of China!

Maesima with their Prova Active-E, an electric compact hatchback. I really how this looks! It is very handsome. You know what, scrap the Tanaka, I want this. Decent range, fast recharge and zero-emission just made me sold on this.

From Russia with love, DuAZ revealed their first automobile for the masses… What? Have I time travelled back? No, apparently it’s a 2019 model year. Wh what?

Kiran is here with their AQ-90, their kei car. It looks scary. Let’s move on.

Zenshi revealed 2 cars, the XLander and the facelifted 2021 GT. The XLander is cute. In contrast, the GT is serious looking. This 8th generation shook the world when it first came out. It now looks better with those updated taillights and bumpers. However, why are 4-cylinder versions are planned to be on sale. I mean sure, but if you’re going to have a Zenshi GT, you might as well take the 4.5 litre V8 version.

Reizei revealed their updated Oxygen. It is very much improved from the pre-facelift version. It looks handsome except for one thing, why the curved lip and side skirts? It makes the car look weird. It’s a shame that they got all the design right except for those 2 things.

Chronos arrived here in Japan with an American muscle cars. People who still wants an old-school muscle car, there you go. 7.5 litre V8, Jesus! That’s an absolute unit!

Revo Motor Company made it’s public debut here with their Babylenom. Weird name. It is an analogue supercar and it’s very fast and very light. But also extremely limited and expensive. The Venturi is an even more expensive version. No, I don’t want it…

And that’s it for the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. I hope you enjoy reading this coverage and also enjoy the show. I’m out, peace.
