1972 Orisian Touring Car Championship - [R1: Qualifying]

Team Turból BFG Racing Orisia

A locally based works effort from Turból for the 1972 OTCC Championship.

Title sponsor and technical partner in this endeavor is American tire company BFGoodstone. BFGoodstone introduced their first high performance radial tire in 1969, and saw motorsports as integral to the future of their new tire technology. Racing efforts pull triple duty: 1) Showcasing the performance capability of radial tires. 2) Increasing awareness of the, at this time, relatively small BFGoodstone tire company. 3) A grueling technical testbed to study and improve the product. With ample motivation and budget, Turból accepted their bid over more established makes for the works tire contract, acting as a supplier, technical partner, and title sponsor.

As is standard practice for Turból when racing on foreign continents, the team would be set up locally rather than across oceans. A full season two car effort is planned.

Turból Spirena 3000 Gr2

The Spirena 3000 Gr2 is a factory prepared Group 2 touring car from Turból based on the homologation special FCI. With an eye towards endurance events, the V6 was tuned to a reasonable 269 hp with an emphasis on fuel efficiency. The distinctive hidden headlights of the street car are replaced with transparent plexiglass covers for greater aero efficiency. Other body modifications were also minor: a deep front air dam and a minor re-shaping of the fenders. The Spirena’s distinctive standard vinyl top was carried over to the race cars, albeit in style only: matte black paint was applied to the roofs to imitate the vinyl top of the road car.

Phénix Racing (Division de Course)

With 1.6L fully upgraded to nearly 150hp and a 10,200rpm redline, Phénix hopes to be in the thick of things with its top speed of 250km/h despite being alone in the 1301-1600 class and competing against mostly 2 liters.

MTL Racing

Entering the Orisian championship as a privateer team, MTL Racing hopes to make a splash. Having imported two Ryuji Shisa RS from overseas, they boosted the tiny 1.0L to 85hp and a top speed of 200km/h. They are hoping to be competitive against the Ryuji team!

OOC: sorry for the lacking ad (and livery), not much time recently to do much more.

Lore
During the 60s Norrsken had started establishing itself as an automaker in the European market, becoming a more and more common choice for people. This attracted notable investors and backers which helped the company as a whole to expand. This however meant that, much to his dismay, Fredrik Broström, the founder of Norrsken couldn't just do or produce whatever he wanted anymore. Now it had to go through the board of investors for approval.

Fredrik had a real soft spot for racing. His origins with cars was modifying cars to go rallying after all. In the early years after the war, he had found great success building and driving rally cars for himself and others, mostly specializing in Saabs. Fredrik had always found circuit racing more interesting, however the scene in Sweden was very small for this type of racing so the dirt stuff came more naturally. However after running Norrsken for more than a decade and not doing any type of racing besides some small local rallies, his fingers had started itching to make race cars.

In 1966, he presented a proposal to build and homoligate a car to race in touring cars. Even if this proposal was mostly fueled by Fredrik’s will to go racing, he had actually put some thinking into it so it would make sense business wise. The plan was that making a car that would win on the big stage would lure more people to the showrooms. This was however denied by the board, citing that the cost of development would be too big for the return, which wasn’t even guaranteed.

So in 1967 Fredrik started building a team in secret. The goal was to take an already homologated car and build it into a winning car. This would show the public that Norrsken could compete with the likes of brands like Porsche and BMW and the board that it was a worthwhile investment.

This team would become the foundations of what would later become Norrsken HPPD, the High Performance and Prototype Division.

The cars were ready for the 1972 season of the OTCC. The number 15 car would be driven by Fredrik himself as well as a young German driver named Karsten Hoffman who would take part in Round 4. The number 45 car would be driven by the rally driver Sven Larsson and for Round 4, a Spanish gentleman driver named Hugo Garcia would co-drive.

BINS AND PENALTIES

If you think I made a mistake let me know and I’ll check your car again.

Division 1

@Maverick74 - Ryuji Team Racing

Offence: Has a wing as front aero.

Decision: Entry for #36 rejected. Cars #16 and #26 are allowed to race. Cars will be ran without front aero.

Reason: Car is legal with the front wing removed.

@karhgath - MTL Racing

Offence: Homologation car had 60s safety but the race car has 70s safety.

Decision: Car #199 will miss round 1. Safety changed to standard 60s.

Reason: Car is legal with standard 60s safety and stats remain the same.

@Thanatos - Vitreo Endurance Works

Offence: Homologation car had 60s safety but the race car has 70s safety. Front brake fade is too high (2.7). Illegal morphs.

Decision: Entry rejected.

Reason: A multiple infraction is an automatic bin.

@Modified_Bot - Bum Bum Racing

Offence: Entry was submitted late and with incorrect naming. Ad for the racecar wasn’t posted.

Decision: Entry rejected.

Reason: Even though the car file was submitted in time and the form was filled within 24 hours of the deadline, the ad was never posted.

Division 2

@David_Herrera - Kurosake Motorsport

Offence: Rear tyre profile is too low (50). Tyre quality isn’t +5 (+7).

Decision: Entry rejected.

Reason: A multiple infraction is an automatic bin.

@karhgath - Phénix Racing

Offence: Too many rear aero elements (3 spoilers). Homologation car had 60s safety but the race car has 70s safety.

Decision: Entry rejected.

Reason: A multiple infraction is an automatic bin.

@Drewster564 - Valentine Coach Works

Offence: Homologation car had 15 inch rims but the race car has 14 inch rims. Minimum quality is too low (-5).

Decision: Entry rejected.

Reason: A multiple infraction is an automatic bin.

@Lil_Cretin - Velt Motorsport

Offence: Rear tyre profile is too low (50).

Decision: Entry for car #504 rejected. Car #505 allowed to race. Rear tyre width changed to 225mm.

Reason: With the reduced tyre width the car is legal.

Division 3

@AKA_NOBUDDY - CBC Racing

Offence: Family stroke increased by 0.3mm. Tyre quality isn’t +5 (+3). Homologation car had 2 front brake pistons but the race car has 3. Minimum quality is too low (-3). Cost is too high ($27400). Exceeds factory team budget ($85782).

Decision: Entry rejected.

Reason: A multiple infraction is an automatic bin.

@David_Herrera - Zenith Special Werks

Offence: Homologation car had 0 chassis quality but the race car has +1. Tyre quality isn’t +5 (+7). Cost is too high ($26400).

Decision: Entry rejected.

Reason: A multiple infraction is an automatic bin.

@HoboCop - BOAC Oberon Sport

Offence: Homologation car had 60s safety but the race car has 70s safety.

Decision: Car #11 will miss round 1. Safety changed to standard 60s.

Decision: Entry rejected.

Reason: A multiple infraction is an automatic bin.

@Nunu - Seyonomi Racing Division

Offence: Rear tyre profile is too low (45).

Decision: Entry rejected.

Reason: There’s no easy fix to make it legal. Reducing tyre width makes it underweight; increasing wheel diameter makes it too expensive.

@PistonHead - Blue Jays

Offence: Homologation car had SOHC heads but the race car has DOHC. Homologation car had 0 chassis quality but the race car has -1. Rear tyre profile is too low (45). Too many front aero elements (3 lips).

Decision: Entry rejected.

Reason: A multiple infraction is an automatic bin.

@Marv666 - Renstal Wychaert

Offence: Cost is too high ($26400).

Decision: Entry rejected.

Reason: When adding the $2500 penalty for having 4V heads the car is too expensive. Exceeding maximum cost is an automatic bin.

Holy shit no homologation faults AND no race car faults, wtf I’m living the dream.

I’m going to move back to the stable version and see if I changed the safety of my car, don’t know if I just didn’t see that it needed to stay the same, or just slept, kind of a stupid mistake considering I added weight at some point of tuning

1 Like

@Danicoptero could you send me the car file of the bin? just openned my copy and it has 70s standard. (the front brake fade realy is 2,7% sadly)

I can’t believe I missed one quality setting. After spending so much time on this, it’s frustrating, but it is what it is.

I hope I will do justice to your car with my (your) homologation/private team.
(also if you want, I can send you the .car :wink: )

I made a mistake writing the post, the issue is actually the opposite. The homologation car had 60s safety but the race car has 70s safety.

I’ve already fixed the mistake on the post.

Most importantly I noticed that the rear of the car looked different so I checked the morphs and they’re different. It’s actually pretty obvious looking at them side by side I don’t know how I missed that.

slept hard on the rules this time, hadn’t even notice there were limitations on morphs, thanks for the fast answer

I’ve been made aware that this rule was a bit confusing and could be read as safety from the same decade as the model year. It was intended to be read as safety from the same decade as what the homologation car had.

I see how the wording of the rule might be confusing and I’ve been thinking if I should do anything about that. I keep going back and forth but I can’t decide so I’m leaving it to democracy:

  • Keep the penalties
  • Reduced penalties
  • Remove penalties

Ouu… I probly made a mistake in understanding the rules. Anyway, it was fun to make that car, good luck to everyone taking part in this event!

REVISED PENALTIES

Since removing the penalties has won the poll (and it was my prefered option anyways) here are the adjusted penalties for the affected cars.

Division 1

@karhgath - MTL Racing

Offence: Homologation car had 60s safety but the race car has 70s safety.

Decision: No further action

Reason: Safety penalty has been removed.

@Thanatos - Vitreo Endurance Works

Offence: Homologation car had 60s safety but the race car has 70s safety. Front brake fade is too high (2.7). Illegal morphs.

Decision: Entry rejected.

Reason: Even without the safety penalty it’s still a multiple infraction.

Division 2

@karhgath - Phénix Racing

Offence: Too many rear aero elements (3 spoilers). Homologation car had 60s safety but the race car has 70s safety.

Decision: Entry for #44 rejected. Cars #66 and #99 are allowed to race. Cars will be ran with just one rear spoiler.

Reason: Safety penalty has been removed. Car is legal without the extra spoilers.

Division 3

@HoboCop - BOAC Oberon Sport

Offence: Homologation car had 60s safety but the race car has 70s safety.

Decision: No further action.

Reason: Safety penalty has been removed.
