2007 chevy malibu base model (first car)

This will sound borderline sacreligious to some tuner guys, but I actually like 4 cylinder exhausts. Also, one of the benefits of an older car: no rev limiter beyond the redline and fuel cutoff.

Any idea what that engine light is about?

It comes on when the engine is off, kinda like “hey, dum-dum, your engine is off, that’s why you’re going nowhere”

Okay, so not when it’s running, never mind.

Correct, when it’s on there’s no light

On OBD-II cars the check engine light illuminates when the ignition is on, but the engine is off so that techs can with a glance see that the ECU is getting power.

If the Check engine light does not illuminate with the ignition on/engine off than the ECU is not getting power, or the light is blown.

It’s a super quick glance check.
