2022 Automation Official Design Competition (Category J Results UP!)

Well for starters it didn’t photograph particularly well.

Beyond that, I’m not sure it would have done well enough to reach the finals even if it was photographed better, there’s something really off about its proportions.

Sorry that I’m a bit late, but I would like to know why my car did not make it into the finals for Cat E.

I tried to make my photo period appropriate(1980s), but is it possible that that hurt my score? Thanks for any feedback.

So the picture could be improved, alright, but about the proportion, was it because of the short nose? Could you explain bit more about that?

It’s a decent - if rather slab-sided car overall, but it doesn’t really show that well in the picture unfortunately. A dark car on a dark or darkish background will always struggle.

Pretty much what you said; your car as it is feels too tall and too short for what it is supposed to be.

I see, thanks for the feedback

I am pleasantly surprised to see my luxury car interior entrant place! Truthfully, I could have spent more time on it, but due to busy work schedule and such, I just photographed an older already existing
car of mine and sent it in hoping for the best - to my surprise, it did okay! But it was clearly no match for many of the others that placed, some of these looked spectacular. The interior was made really just to look ‘decent’ when exported to BeamnNG. which is why the textures were a bit large and details perhaps a bit sparse. Still, very excited it made it to the video

Boy oh boy…
I would have been happy by just making the finals and nothing more. To win it feels unreal.

After watching the roundtable I have a few notes to make.

  1. Rear legroom is pretty much as large as it can be. Front seat is in a natural position (fits a driver) and rear seat is only few centimeters from clipping the rear window. I would have loved to have more space, but for that I should have used a different body.
  2. About Killrob’s sausages. I hoped these would work as B-pillar extensions to the car floor. Something not needed, cause it’s a coupe. I bet these wouldn’t be as noticeable if I had left them to be black. I might rework them at some point.
  3. Center console looks cluttered because of that shifter. I will redesign this, if I come up with a sleeker idea.
  4. Wood grain options when building the car were either light or dark. I probably could have achieved a better contrast by using a different shade of leather. But I didn’t hate it so…
  5. Materials look quite different in photo scene used for judging and design room. The black stuff wasn’t nearly as black in design room (at least on my end) and had much cooler alcantara look.

Overall it was fun. Thanks again for organising the competition.

As usual I’m a bit late with my feedback request but here I am. This time it’s about my Category G submission.

I was kinda hoping to see your reaction to a little Easter egg in the rear of my car but failed to get into the finals. Oh well…

Any updates about the remaining two categories?

We are still awaiting approval of the videos from our celebrity judges. This is a very busy time of year for them, and they’ve both assured us they will be looking through the videos as soon as possible.

I think there should be a category about minivans. I know there not cool vehicles, but they were quite revolutionary in the 1980s-2000s

How the hell did mine get a 9 in pre-judging

Some very good designs in there - but definitely not mine! Very impressed by the top 3!

Edit: Sorry about the off-center scoop! That’s what you get by rushing a design during vacation on a small laptop!

-3, just like before, yet so close but yet so far.
Man.

Oof -4 on cat X, I knew I took a risk with the aspect ratio but I wonder what actually happened there?

In other news, didn’t win cat V but still suuuper happy the originality of my concept was well recognized by an actual figure of the industry :face_holding_back_tears: Give my thanks to Klaus and I’ll keep working on that beauty part!

I’d (Hi!#4456) love some feedback, what could I do to make my car a better design?
