Unfortunately, I am going to have to halve the entrant cap. I will only be accepting 10 entrants now. Hopefully this is understandable. Based on the traffic this thread is getting, I’m not sure we would hit 20 anyways :p. This challenge turned out to be a bit too ambitious for me to guarantee that it will be finished if 20 competitors enter. Anyone who has already expressed interest in participating will be guaranteed a spot.
I would like a spot, in case I haven’t expressed interest yet. I won’t be able to start a car until later this week, as I have a crazy work schedule.
So far iRaptor, VMO, and Racer13 have claimed a spot.
I would like to claim a spot, until about 7 entries come in, then I’ll close my spot, so more people can enter.
Would I also be able to grab the Bathurst Event for an Astronaut Magazine sponsorship?
Astronaut Mag has the Bathurst sponsorship.
I have claimed a spot. Entering a fast MR coupe.
I am in
from rules:
Does that mean that load is always half of weight or will load be calculated depending F/R balance?
EDIT: Also, does power to weight ratio go for lean middle or rich variant?
EDIT2:
this is 689.999999…mm and default in lets say SillyWorld’s car is 690mm. Is this deliberately so we must shrink tyres or were you going for 690?
It should be 690 I suppose. 27.165" is the default for the GT1 car when using imperial units in Automation. I’m willing to bet Automation just rounds up that repeating decimal. Power/weight is for rich variant, I’ll add that to the regulations book. I’ll see about putting metric units into the rulebook. I see now that I will have to set my units to metric in Automation and obtain figures that way rather than just converting them outside of the game because of weirdness like that. Load is calculated the same no matter what your weight distribution is. Not all of these calculations are in-depth, unfortunately. It doesn’t mean it’s always half of load, though. What that sentence means is that if your vehicle weighs 1250 pounds the hard tire compound will last 200 miles. So if your vehicle weighs 2500 the hard compound will last 100 miles. For every 1250 pounds of car weight, you are robbed of 100 miles of tire life. So, if your vehicle lands in between 1250 and 2500, tire wear is calculated as if it weighs 1250. Pretty odd, I know, but it encourages weight reduction without getting too complex. Like I said, not entirely pleased with the way the rules turned out in this challenge, lol. I do not recommend doing something like this for your first challenge.
This combined with the power/weight ratio limit is probably going to make for a pretty low power field now that I think about it XD. This is ignoring any tire wear penalties you may incur by instructing your driver to push hard, or any tire wear bonuses you gain from doing the opposite.
Entrants so far:

Vri, are we going to have another battle at the back of the pack? It would an interesting story for our companies if we became rivals at the back of the pack. Haha
Cheers - Racer13
Will we get to watch the race, in any form? Or will it be like AMWEC? (Not saying the AMWEC system is bad, it’s really good actually)

I think I’ve made a somewhat good car (Unlike my AMWEC Vehicles) so maybe not
There isn’t really going to be much to watch with the way I am doing it, but I’ll see about posting “live” updates in this thread when a race is in progress. There should be no problem with that. I bit off a little more than I could chew with this series, but I’m still going to run it. Just don’t expect this to be on par with AMWEC . In fact, the comparisons to AMWEC that keep popping up in this thread are making me giggle a little.
We already have our first entry . The #404 Astronaut Magazine Racing entry is undergoing the process for NASC approval as we speak.
I’d love to run my company’s supercar in this race and already did a tune that matches the regulations, but before I submit I have a question.
Does fuel weight factor into our power to weight ratio? This might be obvious to some, but I approach nearly everything like I’m a complete idiot. Lets say my car weighs 2000lbs and I chose the 25 gallon tank meaning the added fuel weight is 150lbs. The max power for 2000lbs is 400HP, but the max for 2150lbs is 430HP. The HP gain would be 24hp for 20 gallon tanks and 36hp for 30 gallon. While such gains might be small, I’d like to know if I need to add fuel weight so I don’t miss out on some free HP. If not and we just use the weight the game states then that is fine I just want to be sure.
As a follow up, if no one else has expressed interest I’d like to have my motorsports team’s tire supplier, Zeke-Zero (who is their own entity and other than supplying tires and parts to us have no relation), to sponsor the Sonoma race.

That’s actually a pretty good question. I’ll only be measuring dry weight when I check if your vehicle suits the regulations. Fuel tank weight will not factor into it, so just use the weight the game states. Also, Zeke-Zero has the Sonoma sponsorship.
Here, have a look at my banana.
Tis just a teaser of the front end. No more to be shown until deadline/full entries.

As one of the commentators for the AMWEC, I want to say that live races are actually a very big project. I know both Sillyworld and myself were exhausted after doing the live Melbourne race. And since it would seem, as you admitted, you may have bitten off to much, I would recommend keeping with the final results for each race. Just my two cents on the matter.
Vri, I guess we shall find out. Maybe I won’t have made such a dog either. We’ll have to wait and see! Excitement!
Cheers - Racer13

I’ll see about it. Even if I did do live commentary none of these races are more than 300 miles long. I don’t know. If nothing else, I’ll include a summary of accidents, pit stop times etc. in the final results. Or maybe just occasional updates while I’m calculating the race.
Probably a bit late, but HP Craftworks is finally beginning development for its NASC entry.
Depends on what you consider late. The deadline is the 22nd.
