Nah, it’s okay. I’ll give everyone extra days.

It wouldn’t be a competition if there were only 2 cars in the lot

Okay, but seriously, how has that 3/4 people that I ping show no existance. Like maybe a report or something of if you’re doing it.

Hosting tip; it’s pretty normal for users to not really say anything until they’re done. So while it can be a bit unnerving when things are so quiet, its probably not something to be worried about. :D

Also, you should always expect at least one person to submit on the last day; especially since this challenge’s deadline is over 2 weeks away, making it less urgent than many other currently-running challenges.

Review Time

Story:

September 12, 1990

James is now on his way to the dealership as he has saved up $10K from his job at the burger joint in his area. He is now reviewing the 5 cars that are in the parking lot listed for sale.

Deja Vu, I’ve seen this car before

To begin with, our first car that James was to review was the KHI Prismatik which is one of 2 sedans entered in the challenge made by @doot and @Soviet_Russia

The notes:

To start off with, the KHI Prismatik is a Korean sedan that is able to seat 5 which places the above the others in seating(others had 4), meaning that James would be able to seat his friends and maybe a stranger if the time ever calls for it. (This is really nice as opposed to the others only having 4, this increases the practically in this situation)

The car has a inline 4 which produces 86.8HP and 113.4LB-FT which isn’t the most but is a good amount considering that it’s a economy car.(Given some liberty for the exhust, you could have gone for High flow 3 way to increase power and efficiency, but I understand the budget orientation for what it is.) This car runs on low quality unleaded fuel which gives this the cheapest fuel that has been run on which is a great advantage over the others as it does not need the high grade to run. (The Prismati-i is quite nice in design, some upgrades and it could be more robust)

The car has a 5-speed Adv Auto paired with FWD, which would give ease to James as a smooth and efficient transmission coud help free up his hands when he’s eating out at his local taco joint.(I can see the speed being limited to 117MPH as to reduce service costs and also to increase fuel efficiency)

The tires are normal Hard Long Life compounds which are good for normal day to day uses, the tires are radials and are 160mm wide. Nothing much to say about the tires.

The front brakes are 2LS Drums while the rear brakes are SLS Drums, there is nothing inherently wrong with that considering that this is a cheap car under 10K, though some better brakes could be a bit useful in the context of having less brake fade which is somewhat there. (I can see that this was done for cost related reasons)

The interior consists of 5 seats: a 2/3 layout. The interior is standard with the entertainment being a standard cassette, James could blasts some tunes on this though it’ll probably only be as good as the speakers he has on his laptop of which he played World of Warcraft. The comfort is the second best in it’s class at a 31.4 which is still somewhat uncomfy, but is better than 3 others.

The safety is alright with ABS(really cool stuff) and some standard 80s safety which was okay. The safety was the opposite of the comfort of which the car was second last(tied with another car being second last). This may sit unwell with James as he wants to walk out the crash “scotch free” and not “crotch free”.

The car was relatively easy to drive at a 56.6 making it so that the car wouldn’t suddenly lost control in the process of driving, though it is to note that this is in last place in regards to drivability of which it could be aided with some more assists.

The car has good reliability at 68.9 which makes it second to last compared to the rest of the scores. This does not mean that it is bad. This thing could be sent to Australia and probably have no issues of running afer being sent to Brazil, Iraq, Venezuela, Romania, and then back to the US in Texas. Speaking of reliability, it boasts a maintainence cost of $597.2 to keep it going which is good for a college student who would be on a tight budget(This comes in second place for maintainence)

The mileage is at 30MPG, which is good because it uses fuel without being too costly to drive(This comes in second to last place, but much better than last place.)

Emissions are at 389.7 which makes this the second most polluting car out of the 5(could probably use a 3 way catalytic converter to reduce the number)

The KHI Prismatik can reach a top speed of 117MPH and a 0-60 of 13.5 seconds making this the 3rd fastest but not the quickest.

The practicality is at 59.5 which is good.

The car costs $9770 and overall looks like a good buy, the quality ranged from -1 to -2 which is quite modest in the opinion of a cheap car. Let’s see what it can do!

The second car that James looked at was the Bazard Canora, this is the other sedan that has been parked at the dealership.

Canora’s Bazard Adventure

The Bazard Canora was made by @Happyhungryhippo and @Edsel.

The notes

The Bazard Canora is a sedan that can seat four people while being a nice offering as a buget car with some aspirations as to being a premium car for the youth which is quite niche but nevertheless a good contender. This is one of the few cars that opted for an aluminum engine which in itself for a car under 10K is quite an offering

(This is one of the few cars that have a fully made interior which is quite honestly a spectacle for the people who built this car for this challenge.)

The car is equiped with a 1.7L inline 4 engine that produces 93.9HP and 107.3LB-FT which is the 2nd most powerful car on the list while also being the 2nd fastest car on the list at a whopping 124MPH. The emission that this car produces at the tailpipe is the third lowest which makes it the median emission value of the group.(This is a good benchmark of emissions)

The transmission inside this sedan is a 4-speed Adv Auto FWD which is simply one gear less than the KHI Prismatik as shown before, but this does not mean that it is any less of a car whatsoever as the KHI Prismatik had DOHC while the Bazard Canora has SOHC.(While more powerful, it could use a little bit more economical aspects to help increase fuel efficiency)

The tires on the Bazard Canora are 185mm wide which is somewhat of an improvement for traction and is somewhat a better pick to feel more premium which I am sure it would feel more premium knowing that you’re balling with 185mm wide tires in college.

The tires are Hard Long Life tires which are not much to speak of, as they are reasonable for a college student to have on a cheap car.

The brake situation is much better with the front brakes being 1 piston solid disc brakes with the rear brakes being SLS drum brakes. This is to be noted with some brake fade, but it’s not that much where it would have a lasting effect on the car.

The interior is quite settled with 4 seats and a standard interior along with a standard cassete player. This makes the car quite bearable as when you’re waiting for your friends to finish their shift before heading out to the Dungeons and Dragons convention. (Most cars have this setup to have comfort and reduced costs)

Now the safety, no traction aids on this bad boy but there is something that may be suprising about this car: Electric steering. Yeah, you heard that right, it is fitted with some of the more advanced steering systems on the market meaning that this gets ranked the 2nd easiest car to drive with a drivability score of 61.5 meaning that this would be a parent approved vehicle for someone’s first driving lesson. The safety score for this car is at an astonishing 40.8 which makes this the safest car out of all the cars in this list, meaning that James could survive a car crash and exit “scotch free” and not “crotch free”.

The reliability is at a 70.7 making this a notch above two other contenders which makes this a car to overcome the conditions it may exist while being easy to take care of if it ever needs to be repaired which may be expensive at a $678.5 which is second to last in maintainence costs. (Could be better with some lower cheaper options)

The mileage is at a 30.2 MPG which is alright, making it easy to not worry too much about the rising fuel prices that may happen in the future.

The Bazard Canora can reach a top speed of 121MPH and achieve a 0-60 of 11.8 seconds, making this the second fastest and quickest car in the segment.

Practicality is at 52.1 which is alright.

The total cost of this car is $9990 which is touching the budget ever so slightly. No negative quality sliders making this more qualitative than the KHI before…

The third car that James looked at was the Kurosawa Kuruza, this is a uniquely placed Japanese car in Texas and is the first hatch that is to be reviewed.

Kuruza’in Time!

The Kurosawa Kuruza was made by @SurrealCereal and @Maverick74.

The notes

To start off with, the Kurosawa Kuruza is a Japanese hatch back that is more taller than the others in the lot, which doesn’t mean much to James or to you, the reader, anything at all and is simply an obersavtion I had with this car. Nothing inherently wrong the design too as it is quite cute in my humble opinion.

This, just like 3 other cars, has 4 seats available which is quite okay for this type of car since it’s a more budget oriented car and so your neighbor doesn’t need to know that you can only seat 5.

This car is equipped with a 1.4L inline 4 making 86.2HP and 89.7lb-ft of torque. These numbers are nothing to brag about, making it second to last in regards to the power output. This case of an engine is quite nicer as opposed to the ones I have just reviewed as this engine has enough power to simply propel itself forward with more advanced tech like multi-point fuel injection. The car could use a bit of a tune with gearing to help it get going more well.

The car has a Adv-Auto 4 speed transmission connected to the front wheels(FWD). Nothing too special about that regarding the usage of a pretty normal layout.(An extra gear could be used to be a bit more efficient, though the setup now is quite used well for a car like this)

The tires are nothing too special as they are Medium Compound radials with a width of 175 mm which is also nothing much to be said. The rims however cannot be said the same as they are 13s at a time of which rim sizes are getting bigger. This is no issue though because in all of its design, it is indeed a cheap car to bein with just like how the KHI Prismatik has drum brakes at a time where economy cars had disc brakes.

Now for the brakes, the brakes are the interesting ones to look for as the front brakes are 250mm 1-piston Vented discs which is more advanced than the competition making it able to stop the car in 5 seconds! The rear brakes though are the plain Jane 250mm SLS Drums that wouldn’t really be seen as innovative. The company must of spent all their brake budget in the front. A special note, this car is second when it comes to safety at an astounding 38 which is just 2.8 less than the Bazard Canora which in itself is quite impressive.

The rims, despite being small, are quite cool as they seem to factory installed Japanese aftermarket wheels which in itself gains a cool point.

The interior is quite basic as it has 4 seats, a standard interior, and a standard cassette. The components of the cassette came from a decent Japanese audio device maker as evident with the +1 interior quality.

The car has a manual rack & pinion steering system which I must say is a sporty yet cost effective option to choose.

The safety, this car has no traction aids and so if you were to steer too hard, it would slip on the slick roads that come to be be when it is raining at times. Not that the car would be dangerous as it is packed with standard 80s safety meaning that his uncle’s time period of safety would be brought upon him.(despite this, it is the second most safest car, good job.)

Now if you thought the 61.5 drivability rating for the Bazard Canora was crazy, then you should see the drivability score of the Kurosawa Kuruza which is at a 62.2 which makes this the easiest to drive out of all the cars in the list despite have a manual rack & pinion steering system.

The reliability is at a good 75 which makes it into second place with this being able to withstand the blast of Austraila, then being imported to Iraq to be running without any issues at all, then to go to Japan to be shoot at by the Yakuza, then to be shipped to the Soviet Union(when that was a thing) to be used as a form of cheap outsourced vehicle to drive in as a regular person to only be shot once again with the bullets being from the KGB, then of it goes to this daelership to be sold to a college student. Phew, that was a lot said, but a car like this is really nice to have on hand especially if you do not want to break down in the middle of the road when you have to attend to your classes in the morning.

The mileage of this thing is at a nice 33.1MPG of which it is a bit better than the previous two, meaning that James is able to buy a cup of coffee without worrying about if he should be more frugal with his already frugal lifestyle.

This thing can reach a top speed of 111MPH and a 0-60 of 12.2 seconds, which means that it is the second slowest car out of all five. Which isn’t to say that it’s bad, but it’s just saying that it’s a tad bit slower which is just okay. : )

The practicality is at 61.1 which makes it super useful on a journey to college.

The total cost of the car is $9940 which makes it the second cheapest to buy. The service cost is $629.3 which is a good deal for a car like this. Though it is the third highest out of the 5.

Hopefully we can get onto the next two cars in the list before the finale.

The fourth car that James looked at was the Trémaux Flore “Bon Marche”, this is an interesting French car that has made its way to Texas at a time those companies were pulling out(Just like the French themselves). Anyways, this is another hatchback that shall be reviewed with careful examination.

The Flore for The Lady?

The Trémaux Flore Bon Marche was made by @LS_Swapped_Rx-7 and @mart1n2005

The notes

The Trémaux Flore Bon Marche is a French hatch back that seems to be a simple yet effective design that makes it well versed for such a college student with the rest of the review being an analysis and an explanation to its well made design despite being made by the French :face_vomiting:

Anyways, onto the review. This hatchback has only 4 seats which is to be the norm for the cars in the situation that James is placed in. This car would be enough for him to sit his friends along the way to the nearest Costco.

This car is equipped with a ~1.4L inline 4 that makes 63.2HP and 71 LB-FT of torque. This is the least powerful car in the list which would be considered as a bummer for James as it wouldn’t be too much to speak about, though to mention this: It’s not all about power when you’re considering it to be an economical car for a relatively average college student that wants a car to use for his day to day travelling

The engine has an overhead cam design with 4 valves per cylinder. Another thing that caught the attention of James was that this engine was made out aluminum which was thought to not be possible at this price range and just like the Kurosawa Kuruza, it had a Multi-Point Fuel Injection system that was pretty forward in its design.

This car is equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission that is parted with a transverse FWD system which makes this hatch back the one of the only one out of two manual cars in the entire list which may be somewhat challenging for James to get the hang of. However, with enough practice, James would be able to autocross this beast of a hatch back with no issues.

(For the one that did the engineering, well done! This was probably a risky engineering task for it may reduce drivability and comfort but it did play well with fuel economy which may help it get a better grade.)

The tires are nothing special themselves as they are normal Hard Long Life compounds which are good for normal day to day uses, the tires are radials and are 165mm wide .

The front brakes for the French flower are 230mm, 2-pistons sold disk brakes which is nice for a car like this. The rear brakes are a bit more older as they are 220mm, 1-piston, SLS Drum brakes which would be similar to the KHI that was reviewed earlier. The brakes have a minimal amount of brake fade which shouldn’t be too much of an issue.(If I had increased the budget, the brake fade may have been helped with some quality.)

The interior as stated before consists of 4 seats which are of the standard which is okay because it’s a cheap car. The car is also equipped with a standard cassette which is somewhat okay with James as well. This car is more or less a very basic car which could be helped with some fuzzy dice or stickers to make it feel less… …boring?

However, this does not mean it is any less of a car to be comfortable as it the MOST comfortable car in the segment with a score of 35.2, which makes it able to be slept in without too much fuss.

The steering system for this car is electric which makes it easy to drive without any issues of spinning out of the lane that James would be driving on. This is evident with the drivability score of 58.7 which makes it second to last in regards to the ease of driving this hatch back which may be in regards to the type of transmission chosen for this car.

The safety is the typical standard 90s, which would lead it to have a safety score of 35.2 which makes it dead last in safety, meaning that James may be “crotch-free” instead if getting out an accident “scotch-free”. (The safety could be improved on, though I got to say that it does become last place by only 0.6 points). Another thing to mention is the negative quality, meaning just like the French, you may end up surrendering. Surrendering your life of course :skull::skull::skull:

Now to mention some other things that would be considered into the decision of this car just like reliability which sits at 76.3. Making it unlike any French car(ha, the engine name is misery, instant win) the most reliable out of all the cars being mentioned here. To put that into context: This car could drive into a mountain and the next thing you’ll know, conservationists pop up to stop the destruction of the beautiful scenery, the car would tunnel through and be out with just a scratch.

(Nice job on the reliability aspect, this really has a chance of being in the top 5(ha, there’s only 5 cars :smiling_imp:))

The practicality on this thing is at 57.1, which makes it less practical than others, probably because of the transmission and the seat count.

The mileage of this car gets to be an astounding 42.5MPG, meaning that it could get from point A to B without a worry of running out of fuel. This would prove to save him the most amount of money because it is the most fuel efficient car in the dealership at the moment and that is something that can’t be stated for any of the others who fight with each other.

Another thing to mention would be the service costs being at an all time low of $591.3 to be kept in shape while having some money to spare for some fine dining in a French restaurant. This is honestly a very cheap car for the long run and has been kept tabs on for how well it is on saving money(Did I mention that it’s also the lowest service costs as well?).

To talk about performance, the Trémaux Flore Bon Marche can reach a top speed of 108MPH which is the slowest out of all the cars in the list. Its 0-60 time is 13.3 seconds which is not too bad as it is 0.2 secodns quicker than the KHI Prismatik.

This is another grand slam for the Trémaux Flore Bon Marche, and that is the price which sits at $9410. This is the cheapest car out the lot and it sells a very good car at a very low price(This car was phenomenal, it has great mileage, low service costs, and a low purchase price. We’ll see it be well on its way to the finale.)

The Trémaux Flore Bon Marche is a great representation of French cars in an alternate reality.

Only 1 more car to be reviewed, and we’ll be done!

The fifth and last car that James would look at would be the 1.7t which is probably the most wild out of the entire line up of the cars being set up here. However, James with his best intentions would fairly judge it without any bias being made. As it is a cool car for sure, though it may be a little bit out of the realm of what is being bought by a college student.

Vroom vroom!

The 1.7t was made by @abg7 and @Bibly

The notes

The 1.7t is a hot hatch back that is quick in design though a bit costy that could inspire those who drive this car to think that they are Arnold Schumacher even though they are just some college kid who has no idea what a clutch is.

Anyways, onto the review. This is a hatchback that could seat 4 people which is just like the 3 other entries which isn’t bad, as James could seat his friends without any issues.

The engine is very special as it is a 1.7L inline 4 which was turbo charged which is really insane! This is the only car out of all the cars here to be turbo charged which makes it indefinitely more cooler than the other contenders. With this turbo charged engine, the car was able to produce 171.6HP and 167.4LB-FT which makes this the most powerful car out of the entire lineup. This would be a cool car to own as it does have a cool engine. However, this car has race headers which would hurt the maintainance and reliability of the engine and despite its nice sound would be a ailment rather than an aid for the car.

The engine has an overhead cam with 3 valves per cylinder which isn’t bad, but some other cars such as the Trémaux Flore Bon Marche had 4 valves per cylinder. This isn’t to say that the engine is that bad, it’s just that this is a part of a compromise of the turbo being added.

(Bibly, this is not bad engineerting. Know that. It’s just that it could have been better utilized to use regular headers as opposed to race headers. The turbo in my opinion is a cool addition that could be used for this challenge, it’s just plauged with some service costs and reliability issues. Ask the community here for if you want further clarification.)

This car is a longitudinal AWD hatch back that has been connected to a manual 5 speed which makes this the second car to have a manual transmission. With the power and manual transmission offered by this car, it would be a good sports hatch made for James once he has money to start collecting cars as a hobby, though for now, this is a decision as of a first car he has bought with his own money.

(The car is cool, as 10K for this would be a dream for many. The thing is that James(the character) is a college student who is finding a simple A to B car as opposed to a cheap sports car which can be done but has to be done in a cautious way.)

The tires on this hot hatch are in medium compounds which are staggered with 165/185 for the front and back respectively which may make it hard for James to find tires of two different sizes if he needs to replace only 2 tires. Hopefully they won’t pop if he gets it off the lot.

(Staggered tires are when the tires are at a different width from each other and are primarily used for sports cars as opposed to cheap cars. I understand that it’s sporty, but it hurts the service costs)

The front brakes are a nice 225mm 2-pistion vented disks which is pretty rad at this price point and would help with stopping. The rear brakes are 215mm 1-pistion solid disks which are more tame than the front brakes and are nice.

The car has 4 seats, premium interior, and standard cassette which are all okay for the car that this is. the comfort is at 26 which makes it second to last in regards to where it is in related to the other cars. This isn’t too bad, but isn’t that much.

The steering system for this car is a manual rack & pinion steering system that makes it really sporty with the feel of the wire within the steering system which gave intense feedback of the road, though it would be a little uncomfortable to turn the car.

This car would be fitted with ABS which would be nice to help aid with braking with this sporty hatch. The safety is 35.3 which was okay but not too much to make James escape without a scratch. The safety is Advanced 90s which is nice for a car like this.

The practicality is 58.5 which is nice for a car like this.

The mileage of this car is at 19MPG which is the least of all the cars in the listing here. This would mean that this car may be less usable for the day-to-day trips for James.

The reliablility of this car is at a 56.7 which makes this the lowest out of all the cars here. This would hurt the decison made by James as he wants somthing that would at least last him 5-10 years which he would buy his next car that he may need as when he may start a family.

The 0-60 of this car is astronomical as it can go in 7.14 seconds which makes it the quickest accelerating car out of the lineup and would be on poar with many other sports cars of its time. The top speed of this car goes at a whopping 124MPH which is fast, however, the Bazard Canora could reach a top speed of 121MPH and so it’s curious as to where the horsepower went to(the acceleration, eys. But the car should be at least somewhat faster than the competition with 3X the power)

Onto financial things. The car costs a whopping $9990 which is sitting at the height of the budget but is within the realm of the budget. This really is a ncie price for what someone may be getting as it is a quick and cheap hatch back that people may want as a track car. The service costs though may sway the buyer elsewhere as it costs $1039.7 to maintain which may cause issues for James to repair this hatch back with its low reliability.

Quality control was either at -2 or -4, which may mean that the panels may fall off if a bird were to land on them.

The car is quick, but not as what James may need. it’s a fast one for sure, but it’s not necessarily as much as a pusher for the other statistics.

Welcome to the finale everyone!

HERE ARE THE STANDINGS

ABC scores - Google Sheets

Now @LS_Swapped_Rx-7 and @mart1n2005 may host the next ABC, or shall we call it it APG(Automation Partner Game)? Whatever it may be, you two could agree on whether it be one or the other who chooses to become the next host. If the two of you do not have the time or energy, then the next of kin would be the following afterwards.

Here are my rules for future ABC/APGs:

  1. Always a group of 2

  2. Be creative

  3. Be fair

  4. Give everyone chances, this is supposed to be easy to do.

  5. Have fun, salt isn’t tasty if it’s too much :stuck_out_tongue:

It was fun doing this, also: Remember about your cards and don’t forget them. PEACE OUT :sunglasses:

According to the sheet, we would be second. Am I just misreading it or is there a mistake?

I’m fine to host this challenge again, assuming it has the legs to do another round. I can’t speak for my partner though as I see he is doing the next csr.

@LS_Swapped_Rx-7 what are your thoughts?

The lowest points gets the highest place. It’s due to the fact to the negative variables drags the score upwards.

If it was for the highest points, then the 1.7t would win due to the service costs. I did it where the positives would subract from the negative points

i don’t want to do it, so it’s all yours i guess
