AGC43 - Bringing The Heat
Backstory
The Gasmean Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (GASCAR) is Gasmea’s premier stock car racing organization. Its flagship series, the GASCAR Cup Series, sees drivers duke it out in rowdy door-to-door battles on Gasmea’s finest oval speedways, road courses, and even military bases.
The machinery of choice? Naturally-aspirated V8, rear-wheel-drive, tube-frame chassis stock cars. Although they look like regular cars you can get from your local dealer, don’t be fooled - it’s just fancy marketing so the automakers can claim to "win on Sunday, sell on Monday. " The only “assists” the drivers get are aerodynamic to temper the cars’ eagerness to get airborne in the sport’s infamous and spectacular high-speed wrecks.
Sounds exciting? Well unfortunately, TV viewership numbers have been slowly declining over the years due to subpar broadcasting, and with the contract locked in for a few more years, the GASCAR bigshots need a new solution to get people excited about GASCAR again.
Enter Deez Studios, developers of highly acclaimed motorsports titles such as the Rally Storm series.
For their upcoming GASCAR game, Deez Studios is looking for 3 stunning examples of a GASCAR Cup Series car to be featured on the cover. These cars should have eye-catching paint schemes that’ll make the cover stand out on the store shelves.
Brief
You are provided a template build which comes with the common elements and details of a GASCAR Gen 7 Cup Series car.
AGC43_-_[your_name_here]_-_GASCAR_Gen_7_Cup_Car_Template_Build.car (8.8 MB)
Your job is to take this template build and modify it with your own car design and paint scheme. For the specifics of what can and can’t be modified, please refer to the rules section.
An accompanying road car variant of your entry is required but a .car file is not required (you can submit a sketch), as I would like entrants to focus on the execution of the race car.
Rules
General rules:
- Your entry must resemble a 2020+ model year road car with a sedan or coupe bodystyle, with faux lights and grilles/vents.
- You must use the provided template build as a base for your entry.
- Any modification of the wheelbase or body style is not allowed.
- Any modification of advanced trim settings is not allowed.
- Any modification of the wheels (rim size, rim design, tire size, tire texture, etc) is not allowed.
- You can modify the color of the rims.
- An interior is not required and will not be judged.
Design rules:
Restricted areas:
- These include the greenhouse, wheelarches, side skirts, and fuel filler highlighted in red.
- Any modification to the shape of these areas (e.g. morphing the body, resizing/rearranging fixtures) is not allowed.
- Any modification to the aerodynamic devices (roof rails, deflectors, front splitter, rear spoiler, diffuser, etc), cameras, antennas, front grille, vents, hood pins is not allowed.
- No additional aerodynamic devices are allowed (sorry Garage 56 enjoyers).
- No additional grilles, vents, scoops, or other cooling devices are allowed.
Limited areas:
- These include the hood vents, hood flaps, and rear quarter window panel highlighted in yellow.
- You can design your own hood vents and hood flaps but you must have 2 of each on the hood and they must be symmetrical.
- The hood vents must be separated and positioned on either side of the hood and exit out the top surface of the hood. See the diagram below for reference:
- The hood flaps must be positioned directly behind the hood vents.
- The hood vents must be separated and positioned on either side of the hood and exit out the top surface of the hood. See the diagram below for reference:
- You can modify the rear quarter window line but only within the panel highlighted in yellow.
Free area:
- This is the rest of the bodywork in gray.
- You can morph and place fixtures freely on this area as long as they do not overlap or interfere with the restricted areas.
Paint scheme and detailing:
- The paint scheme can cover all areas of the car except the glass, front splitter, and rear diffuser.
- Your main sponsor and most visible logos must be lore-friendly (do not use real life brands).
- You must keep the “Heck
Yeah” and “GASCAR Cup Series” stickers on the front fenders in their original size and position. The “Heck
Yeah” sticker can be white or yellow (a yellow paint preset is included). - You must have a door number positioned on the front half of the door on both sides.
- You must have a roof number oriented to be the right way up when viewed from the left side of the car.
- You must have a bumper number on both bumpers.
- The front bumper number must be positioned under the left headlight (when viewed from the front).
- The rear bumper number must be positioned under the right taillight (when viewed from the rear).
- You must have a manufacturer badge on the left of the front windshield banner (where it says “AGC43”).
- You must have a driver name (only last name is required) on the right of the front windshield banner.
- You must have manufacturer branding (badge, name, etc) on the rear windshield banner.
- You must have a driver name/branding (can be stylized) on the name rail above the side windows.
- You must have a jack post marking (contrasting arrow or line) behind the exhaust on the side skirt (see the yellow arrow on the example car above).
- You can modify the colors of the triangular tear-off tabs on the front windshield banner.
Judging Criteria
Design quality
- How well the design translates from the road car to the race car.
- How creative and well-executed the paint scheme is. You can have any design and sponsorship you want, but don’t be shitposty or use real life brands.
Realism
“Race cars don’t need headlights, because the track is always lit”
- For example, the ideal level of realism would be textured lights and grilles/vents. However, I understand texturing is quite a tricky thing to figure out so this is not necessarily mandatory. You can have regular fixtures set to a low Z-scale with non-functional materials (but obviously having textures will score higher).
