AI Racing Idea for Challenge

Hello everyone, i have an idea for a challenge and would like to know if any of you would be interested in competing in it, just to see if its actually viable. I have been working on an “ai” for beamng (which is quite simple but it does work), and would like to actually put it to use. My idea is a challenge that goes (half) normally with the usual things you would expect in a challenge, (styling, points, times) but have the driving of a person be less important and have a mostly just for fun and basically half rng challenge. Here is what the format would be like ignoring when styling points would happen:
First there is a qualifying which is basically the same as a normal challenge, but after 2 failed attempts it is counted as a DNF, and all the DNF’ed people will be randomly put in the rear of the grid. The rest of the people who have qualified will be put in order of their fastest times like normal. Half the points (from points system which i would have to figure out) will be granted from qualifying positions.
Then, in the order of fastest to slowest the cars will be placed on the grid.
Here the fun stuff starts, an ai race will happen. Half points will be given to all the cars who finish from first to last. If a car finished very close to the finish and can be proved that it was not super far behind it will also be given points. So, the points from the race + qualifying = total points. Most likely there would be around 3 races in total so do this process 3 times.

The thing is, the ai is not super smart so to overtake they usually push each other out of the way or overtake, overtake eachother if another car understeers or just decide to all crash, which is not super unlikely and the race will be reset if all cars have reset.
Proper overtakes do actually happen from time to time, dont worry. The racing can actually be great, testing as been done. Sometimes heroics can in fact happen. Once a car did a quarter of a lap on 2 wheels and actually finished. If stuff like that happens a free point might just be given out.

Of course, all of this might just be a bad idea but if anyone, ANYONE is interested i’ll look into it. The rules would need a lot of thought to be fun and fair, and drivable by the ai. I feel like the entrants should be very involved with the challenge and the challenge needs to be very fun.
If we wanted to go to the extreme there could be a team system where you can either create 2 cars yourself or get in a team with someone else, and the team with the most points wins the challenge.

Obviously this would need more planning and i know what i would have to do, but any ideas are obviously appreciated. Tell me if you want this challenge, because i really do want to do this at some point. Not even sure if this is where i should post this but i think i can do it here.

Could be fun if this is the same AI racing I saw that gave us the “give-no-shits” Sinistra that pushed half of its broken down competition around the track.

I’d love to see 1975 turbo cars, but that’s just me being mean. I have a turbo engine that just needs the right car to unleash 427ci of single-turbo fury on something.

Yeah, the same ai but ive refined it a little bit. Most likely if we do this challenge it would just for testing purposes be modern racecars which are easy to handle for the ai. Future ones would have different themes

Makes sense. I suppose a good shakedown run could be 2000-2009 compact cars. Not super fast nor super exciting, but the AI shouldn’t have too many issues with controlling a flock of mostly FWD cars with 200 horsepower or less.

Alternatively, seeing how many crossovers it could roll would be equally fun.

Exactly that would be perfect although it would probably have some racing parts and racing tires

This does should like a cool idea! As long as people are warned how much RNG is involved, watching the AI race our cars would be great fun! (:

Maybe in this case, the DNF cars could be ordered by 1/4 mile time instead, to make sure they aren’t running into the back of one another on the first straight.

That could work

What about the teams? Do any of you have any opinions about it?

Does the AI actually do something different if 2 players are teammates, or would that just affect how the race was scored?

It would just affect the scoring, the ai sees everyone as the same

You might be able test a team scoring system, by running once race, and using those results to score it twice; once with the cars as individuals, and once with them grouped up into random teams. See how the results come out differently.

A separate suggestion: as a sort of test, maybe you could work with the host of a different challenge, such as Frunia to Archana, or the next CSR, or etc. to run a mini, unscored race against said challenge’s submissions (the ones that agree to it, of course). It’d double as surprise entertainment for the challenge’s submitters, and a sort of test run for how a race might play out.

Could be a cool idea, a little complex though
