So, I did not buy this car, I set this up as an April Fools Rick Roll trap using a local craigslist ad. I wouldn’t buy this anyways, its no Cabrio. April fools and thanks for no one ratting me out on the Rick Roll!
Today I splurged and finally bought a car of my own. its crap but eh. So its a stick 2003 Jetta with the 5 speed and the 2.0L gas. The interior is wonderful and everything feels like its been well kept. I was surprised about how nice of a condition it was in for 163k miles! So its probably gonna break on me soon but what you gonna do for only $1700? Some pics:

It does seem to be well maintained from the outside. Hopefully there aren’t any hidden problems. VWs aren’t well known for reliability. But congrats man.

The two point slow isn’t good at anything, but it’s not bad at everything. Economy isn’t great but the 5 speed can pull in the 30’s and it cruises well at 80. The 8 Valve head doesn’t like to rev hard but it’s got a good amount of mid range torque so it still feels punchy down low. My first car was a '97 Jetta 2.0 automatic, it handled good and it felt well put together. They are also very safe crash test wise, a solid choice for first cars, their electronics tend to be the weak point, sensors went bad all over mine. But I think that they corrected a lot of that between the generations.

So long as it’s the 2.0, it shouldn’t be too bad. I know someone with virtually the exact car (2.0, 5 speed, silver, except hers is a 2000). She’s had hers for at least 3 years, and she says it’s a decent car. One of my friends also had a Passat with the turbo 1.8, and he said that was decent as well.
