In 1988 development for the Monoceros began, and come late 1989, it was born as a limited production hypercar presenting impressive active aero, an irrational rear mounted 9.7L V16, pushing over 1500lb-fts (1507lb-ft) of toque paired to a RWD drivetrain and a luxuriant hand made interior with superb almost panoramic front side and top view windows.

This exotic beast came about from Aruna Jr. wanting to give the world the most impractical, yet extreme super/hypercar imaginable, and was dedicated to spending great sums of money for it to be realised. In the end this caused the lead team to react and bar Aruna as the chairman for the time being, but they had gotten far into development, and so in the end there was 91 models produced. Aruna Jr. soon got his way back into management a few months later as a “reformed and sane man,” he was quoted saying in an interview to a car magazine.

Due to the money spent investing into the Monoceros’ untamed performance it was said the price was almost doubled what the cost to build was just to gain back enough funds to keep Arion from going broke. However, the unique, transcendent style and presence the car gave to the public gave Arion a large boost in sales all around. Fans craved for a more affordable sports car with looks of the supreme Monoceros, which aided the Cetus, Perseus, and Trackstyle further so.

The Monoceros featured in only deep, luxurious colours which appealed more to an up-market kind of person. However the extreme styling captured by it caused many racing drivers and car enthusiasts alike to want one. It has the striking Arion bullet insignia along the side, and the interesting headlights which flipped down to reveal themselves. The strange dual wings worked with the active aero to provide great performance capabilities, but the unreasonable power made it a real struggle to handle to the average driver.

Aside just looking fast, the Monoceros is the fastest Arion car to date, having an estimated 269mph top speed which was not reached in testing. Although a world record breaking 217mph was achieved, aiding Arion’s reputation and business. When tested at the Air field track, it went from 0-62mph in 2.60s, and got a deadly 9.19s on a 1/4 mile run, as well as an out of this world time of 1:11.27 around the full track.

Coming into the 90’s, Arion came with style. The new model Cygnus was released, presenting an interesting look reminiscent of their recent hypercar the Monoceros, the Cygnus 2+2 and GT were a more affordable supercar for the mass market. It vigorously entered production and succeeded extremely well with supercar and GT P. buyers adoring it.

This new model came in two brand new colours too: A fancy Starbursting Yellow, and glitzy Uber Purple which helped it display a quite eye-catching aesthetic to the world. The sporty waffle wheels returned as well as the traditional Arion bullet insignia across the side. It retained similar louvres to the Monoceros as well.

The performance and stats of the car were incredible at the time, especially from the smaller than usual, yet well tuned 3.0L V8 TwinTurbo. 0-62mph was done in 4.90s, with a 1/4 mile time of 13.15s, and when in testing an estimated top speed of 177mph. Around the Airfield track it got a speedy 1:22.24.

It was quite the practical supercar, having good boot space from it being a hatch/notchback configuration, as well as room in the back for kids or smaller adults in the 2+2, and just about enough room for anyone in the GT model.

Running into the 1990s, the Arion Cormorant was born. This big luxury sedan was a large step up from the Arion Galaxy, being an extremely luxurious car to compete with the likes of Bentley and Rolls Royce. It stormed the luxury market place with it’s grand prestige, comfort, and overall drive. It felt sporty enough to not be sluggish as other luxury cars thanks to it’s 5.0L V16 TwinTurbo, but amazingly kept good MPGs and emissions too.

The nice contrast between chrome and matte plastics among the Cormorant’s deep rich colours made it quite the eye-catching ride. The interesting taillight bar, and front grille were reminiscent of those from previous Arion cars, but are displayed in a much more refined way with the neatly placed chrome on the Cormorant.

Thanks to the car’s grand luxury interior, and comfortable handling, it became an instant future classic in the luxury Arion lineup. The fancy looks with the hint of performance from the smooth V16 gave it a sharp edge not to be messed with.

A twin-turbo 5.0L V16 with only 200-ish horses is very underpowered… The Cormorant definitely needs more grunt to match its imposing looks!

With the sales of the Perseus doing well, Arion decided to develop a very refined spyder version of the coupe. In doing so with a few minor updates to safety such as Traction Control being added and tuning to the 4 speed auto. Coming out alongside the Spyder, the Perseus Spyder Cosmos was released. The design was heavily inspired from the original Arargte Cosmos from 1959, having a heavy chrome style and a very Americana style. It caught on a lot better in the American marketplace because of this but elsewhere it was not as popular.

In 1990, the S500 model Cygnus was released: Using the engine from the Cormorant, but tuned up to a powerhouse of 440hp and 460lb-ft. The heftier engine meant it gained weight, but the more mighty V16 TwinTurbo proved to work exceedingly well. Supercar lovers all over wanted to have and experience the fascinating, fast, and obscure British supercar!

The S500 timed a very rapid 1:20.38 around the Airfield track, with a 0-62mph in 5.00s, and a 1/4 mile time of an impressive 12.66s. This performance was great, but even better the car didn’t sip too much fuel as expected, having an amazing 40mpg average! With the fantastic luxury insides, marvellous performance and flashy slick looks, the Cygnus S500 was a force to be reckoned with.

To go with the more modern styling seen on the Cormorant, the Spica received a facelift model coming into the 90’s. It has much smoother lines than the previous, and a completely different engine. Arion ditched the development of their experimental flat 4, for a much smoother more powerful inline 4 with plenty more MPGs and lower emissions.

The Spica did okay in sales, but not exceptionally well at any point. But the reviews gave it great credit for the modernised looks and beefier, smoother, VVT-I inline 4 engine. The Sport got a nice time of 1:33.54 around the airfield track, and when also in testing it achieved 0-62 in 8.59s, and a rather slow top speed of 127mph.
