Automation Test Track Sandbox Build

So when the test track concept first got posted, I got quite excited. Before my Youtubing days I spent most of my time creating tracks for a game called Nascar Racing 2003 Season. On a whim I decided to recreate the track as to the first images we saw, just for fun, and recorded video of that process:

Much to my surprise that video was quite popular, and there was a good amount of demand for me to finish the track so we could see it in game…Not surprising however is that the track underwent some changes before release, and could be changed again in the future who knows…but i’ve decided to tackle the project anyway.

Thankfully Herr Killrob was nice enough to provide me with a nice high res version of the track image, and the track data file to give me some idea of the elevation, radius and length data!

So I just started over from a clean slate and here’s where we stand:

I will be updating this thread as progress happens, but for now just know that its in the works…and as I am currently out of video commission for at least a week due to severe strep throat…odds are lots of progress will happen over the next few days

Thanks for the support as always-

*disclaimer this build has nothing to do with the actual Automation game build, and nothing seen here is meant to be implemented in the game…consider this akin to “fan art”

Looking good! Indeed this is the final version of the Automation Track, we’re pretty sure we won’t change it more than we already have… if anything at all we might change the bumpiness of some parts of the track, but the layout and height data is fixed.

Happy building!

Now onto my best subject (/s)…math! Figuring out the elevations. Banking after that…fun stuff! :stuck_out_tongue:

So SO much left to do…but starting to take shape.

Quick question about the banking, in corner 26, the right hander after the long left hander, im seeing a banking of -5…would that mean 5 degrees off camber?

Positive camber in a left-hander means that you the track is lower on the left and higher on the right. Negative camber in a right-hander means that the track is lower on the right and higher on the left. In both cases you can go faster through the corner.

So basically a positive value means banked to the left (the track looks like / in driving direction) and negative values mean banked to the right.

If you have negative camber in a left-hander or positive in a right-hander, the track “hangs” to the outside of the corner. You would have to go slower through the corner than usually then.

Thanks! I had to draw myself a little diagram based off what you said but I think i’ve got it now

The elevation video looks pretty much correct! Shows how fast the Daffyflyer really is going into the Slingshot, and how steep it gets in Cossack Corner.

Glad to hear it! Hopefully by weekend i’ll be able to boot it into the game and do some laps to see how it behaves
