Automation Track Builder - a visual track editor

This is still to complicated for me. Is there a way you could make it so you can drag the track with your mouse or something like that?

Quite confusing tool, i got a strait to work but could not get a turn to appear on the end.

I don’t really do video tutorials, but I can put together a simple tutorial to get others started.

EDIT: I have a suggestion for this tool. I really like it, and it is pretty simple to use, however it would be really nice if it calculated the distance of the line for you. I’m sure I could do it mathematically, and of course I can run the track and determine it with sector length, but it would be much easier if the tool could calculate it for me.

As a thank you to ElSaico we have upgraded his account to the special edition.

He definitely deserves it. This visual track editor is amazing for how quick he finished it.

Agreed! This thing is super fantastic! A few things still need fixed, and I made a suggestion for it to be even better, but it is awesome already and I hope people start using it a lot! MORE TRACKS!!!

Thank you very much for the feedback, people.

I’ve just launched an update - now the import/export issues are finally fixed. Plus the corners are drawn with the right shape this time.
The only thing left to solve now are those accuracy issues (that only get worse the more corners a track has ) - then interface improvements will follow.

Then again, this line length thing does seem interesting to implement right now. hmmm…

YAY!

Yay too, for a hint with the accuracy issue: it seems to be only in the Y-axis, not X

Yes, the accuracy issues I had to correct with Notepad++. Mine weren’t TOO bad though. Pretty easy 30 minute fix.

New update!

Now the preview canvas works right away (no need to load a background first) aaaaaand… lengths!
Total track length, corner length and distance from start to corner. Available in 2D and 3D (which takes slopes into account) variants.

Thank you 07CobaltGirl for the suggestion - it is a very useful thing after all.

Runs much smoother now! And corners are much better looking, unless they get over 125*. Then they still look sharp. I really like the distances though…super AWESOME!

Except that apparently I made my track 130meters too long…hmm, maybe my measurement of scale was off by 2-3%, maybe that can help with finding your problem: the track builder seems to take larger distances/show smaller distances on the y-axis.

I’m not so lucky that I can fix it manually I’m afraid, this thing has dozens of corners, and if each of them are slightly inaccurate, it all slowly adds up.

There’s just one thing I want to know, and I apologise if it’s been posted elsewhere, but I can’t find it:

What are the dimensions, in pixels, of the background image used?

The background image has to be 1280 x 720

It’s listed in the Custom Track Tutorial thread (sticky at top of forum).

Right now i’m trying to recreate a real oval track, but i can’t make it smooth enough, any tips? remember, i’m making one that’s barely 2400m

Not sure what you mean by “smooth enough” here.

While the scale is wrong on the attached track, as it should be 2414m (1.5 mile), you can see the path does not follow what the car does in the game. This track could use a bit of tweaking aside from the distance (I was off on the scale at 1px:1.3m apparently) but it is not too far off. I made Charlotte Motor Speedway a 1.8 mile quad-oval. :stuck_out_tongue: While I’m sure NASCAR fans are hurling all sorts of obscenities at me right now, it is what it is. Easily fixable, and not really important for this illustration. I’ve spent more time editing this post than I spent making the track.

The red line is not the *actual *car line in the game. It is an end-to-end segment only. The exit angle of the turn and start/end points of the line are all you really need to be concerned about, as that is what the red line is indicating. There are a couple on here making tracks with the editor (I think) and then placing a red line with some other program? I *would *like to know what they are using, but it is not the track editor line.

Feel free to give this track a go in the game. You can also import it into the editor and see what I have done, if you’d like.

YOU ARE A GOD!

I am so glad you made this. Now my 4-mile oval is ready to go in only 5 minutes!

Update!

Following a suggestion by Jakgoe, I added a “pixel mode”.
With it, you can specify corner sizes in pixels, allowing the use of the background as a reference point. Very useful for visual editing.

Also featured: some important corrections of glaring architectural mistakes, I mean, optimizations, meaning the app is much smoother now (and doesn’t throw a bunch of errors in the browser console, either).
