Battle of the Half-Tons [REVIEW POSTED]

Europeans, they don’t understand american trucks. Neither do I, to be honest, so I made this.

I couldn’t use the Baltazar brand, so this is the first vehicle of my american sub-brand, Bush Motors. I present the Bush Joseph V8, packed with 7.6 litres of push-rod power. Fuel economy is terrible, but utility is superb, I think.

No, it isn’t AWD nor it has a turbo.

And because Leo made that bloody thing. I made this thing.

This BKOO Targa Truck is the special edition of the famous BKOO Truck line, because it got Targa roof! And a 418 cubic inches V8 motor that produce many many horsepower, so much that strop might try to buy one for reasons.

Orange turn signals? We dont need no stinkin’ orange turn signals!! Not a bad looking truck, front looks like a bit like a Dakota. And yes, I hate rear orange turn signals, damned things are too bright at night, plus you never know if you have a brake light out when you have orange signals unless you are one of the 0.01% that actually check their bulbs.

I hate red-turn signals, I can never tell if the driver has a bad connection or if he is going to turn. The damned things are too dim at all times, I can’t see what the person is going to do at all :stuck_out_tongue:

Seriously though, I don’t like the blinking brake lights indicators. And I have no concept of trucks, so I just did the basic stuff. Square lights, square grille, chrome, big badges and that was that. And the rear tyres can’t handle the power.

Oh dont worry, I completely understand the logic behind orange signals, same with I understand the logic of the metric system but damnit, I am American and I give the stink eye to such logic :stuck_out_tongue: Let me use my attoparsecs, hogsheads and shakes of a cat’s tail for measuring :stuck_out_tongue:

EDIT: BTW what kind of power are you putting down? I had a '90 F250 with a 7.5L V8 and it only had 225hp and got 4MPG.

I can see your point as well, you are used to them. But just like the imperial system, they are inferior to the european counterpart :stuck_out_tongue:.

My truck has 248 hp, 510 Nm of torque (which is irrelevant) and does 14 US MPG. A lot better than your Ford then, but still terrible.

For 1978 in the US that is actually VERY good, especially when you’re using pushrods. The one thing that annoys me is that the real life counterpart to my truck could manage 25-30mpg whereas in the game I struggle to get to over 14 with any setting, it seems like the 1bbl carbs are just really crappy right now.

I have some question regarding to this challenge.
Is there any penalty for high engine capacity? As in real life bigger engine capacity will have more “cost - to - own” due to Engine Capacity Tax by many countries.

AFAIK there is no such tax in this case, just keep an eye on your total costs and service costs.

In 1978 America (where this challenge is clearly aimed at) there was not any Engine Capacity Tax. In fact, there still isn’t any. Also Gas Guzzler tax was not in effect until 1980, and you didn’t have to meet CAFE rating for trucks until 1979 either. So go on and make that 10.9 litre V8 Truck.

That only applies to passenger cars, doesnt apply to trucks, SUVs or minivans, the law has not been updated since 1980 so we’re still in the clear

I’m just showing that I know about trucks as much as Leo does. :stuck_out_tongue: (And to answer your previous question but not revealing too much, my truck does 13mpg and got more power than 225hp!)

Well you guys know what mine does, I chose to make a stripped down work model so it wont have massive power or luxury, hell it is only 125HP which is still more than the engine got in real life, the original Ford 300 was 117hp.

Blasters made his truck very similarly to the Ardent benchmark. I’ve received entries from leo and conan but am not at home right now to run them through checks. I will do that later as well as announce the secondary prize.

I will cook one up tonight for this!

All entries that I have to this point have been checked.

And here’s the secondary prize:

The top 2-4 competitors, based on total number of entries, will get their trucks written up in a magazine-style head-to-head review! I will, at the very least, do this in a similar format to the old individual reviews in Cheeseman’s thread (as I’m technically still part of his team).

However, if there’s a bold/insane volunteer out there who wants (and has the skills/programs) to do graphics and layout, let me know if you want to help take it the step further and make it a full PDF publication.

Trucks… I know how I like my trucks!!! Bwahahahaha

Question, I’m guessing you are using my equation as the core, so what are the weightings?

Ill work on my submission after I post the scores out on my competition.

Presenting the 1978 Bogliq Haulage!!!

Hailing from Moldova, USA  :stuck_out_tongue:  this truck’ll do stuff without costing lots of folding stuff while keeping you from being bored!

.75 on the “low weight” ones, 1.25 on the “moderately high”, 2 on the Utility. (that’s the multiplier for the square roots)

Another way should be to use a turbo setup, but apparently a late 70s turbo setup REDUCES utility.
