make sure you fit the market you’re aiming for I’ve got 5426 estemated sales under the tab and the min. is 2K
But like you can change that price to whatever you want. If I brought mine down to 4.15k like yours I’d sell just as much too. But the approximate cost is about 8k… so I’d be losing money so bad
If we go off of material costs then I could pick cheap parts that are labor intensive, but even then I could sell my car for about 2.5k ignoring labor costs…
Just judging off your screenshot, you have an AWD maybe turbo? I’m definitely not so bad at the game that my RR 1.8L all cast Flat 4 golf clone would do worse
To make things simpler wouldn’t it be easier to use the approximate cost that every other challenge uses, then set an absolute maximum cost ceiling.
Obviously with the caveat that purchase price, fuel economy and service costs are very much a high priority.
All you need to tell people then is the octane rating of the petrol to use as it’s not market dictated.
you’re not wrong, I didn’t adjust my price but do see what you mean.
Yeah this test mule has AWD and a massive 42MM turbo.
I think the point of this is to make sure our cars sell well in the market they were intended as it would allow base models to fill different roles (that’s how I read it any way)
but this isn’t my comp and I’ve got nothing to do with it so I’ll sit down and wait on the host to clear things up for us all.
Can the vehicle be a 2, or 4, seater? If-so, what kind of penalty would this incur?
I’m just playing around with different designs and ideas and wondering how “out there” I can go!
If you think can sell a 2 seater in the family economy car market be my guest. Most cars aren’t because people want practicality, but if you think you can do it i wont stop you.
Introducing the 1981 Monaire Bnuuy! 6 headlights, 5 seats, 4 doors, 3 luggage areas, 2 liters, 1 exquisite car for the discerning masses ready for something new to usher in the new decade! Featuring a comfortable and cavernous (for its size!) interior and stowage, and a striking 29 miles to the gallon while still having pep!
my wife named the car be nice
Lore: First an kinda OOC explanation. My company Monaire is basically a culmination of all my favorite cars and quirky decisions. Inspirations are air cooled VWs, 50-60s french cars, alpine, Citroën, then 80s and 90s japanese cars particularly mazda. Otherwise I love rally cars(Especially the audi quattro and renault 5 turbo), and other homologation type car races. So you’ll typically see my car designs have RR, boxer, partial monocoques, supercharged(or twin charged), trying to shove hydropneumatic where it doesn’t belong, overuse of CVTs or manuals, willingness to spend on random upgrades that don’t do much but feels nice, and generally a focus on reliability.
In character lore - After the end of WW2 Jacques Monaire founded his own car company inspired by his service in the western european theater with the help of the GI bill. Aping ideas from other manufacturer’s that tickled his fancy and wanting to make a name for himself making cars that are explicitly quirky and out of the box that appealed to the american audience. Given engines of this era were smelly and oily he thought RR was the superior choice and felt vindicated when he saw the success of not only volkswagen and renault using RR but aspired to the sportiness of Porsche’s offerings. Typically choosing premium interiors with otherwise cheaper mechanicals to keep costs down Jacques Monaire dared to make car companies cognizant that consumers wanted comfort and utility without the luxurious price of cadillacs and such (Generally mirroring Citroën’s direction with the DS but keeping things cheap and RR to appeal to power hungry American audiences).
There after the company kept stalwart advancements while still using the same basic principles of low cost reliable comfort with enticing RR performance.
Sorry for not clarifying. It’s not exactly clear enough and I’ll add this to the main post in a sec.
I meant 2k, in the main estimated sales tab (in blue), when YOU set the price.
Why? (Rant warning)
Ik it’s not a perfect system. But basically the whole sales system outside of career is kinda bad bc it doesnt account for a whole number of things. Inflation among them. Point is, i have to look at your car, and go “yeah i can see that being sold for X in this time”. I do look at the predicted cost, but only as a guide for that kinda thing. Ford was making like 18,000 mk1 fiestas in around this time for about $3.2k each (inflation). But if you replicate one as i did for testing the scoring system in this event you wont even reach 700 sales if you used the predicted price.
The whole system is basically so i dont have to set a desirability threshold or as mentioned somewhere a cost cap (which will get used to 100%).
If you’ve got an AWD turbo hatchback and i see it on sale for 4.15k I might start asking questions as to why it’s so cheap and send it back, which incurs a points penalty.
You’ve kinda gotta play a balancing act with matching the market really. Charging too cheap? I’ll catch on and you might lose points.
It was either this or i just say like 600 sales on estimated price, but sales dont scale linearly like that and although thats kinda more consistent, bad cars sell in smaller volumes better.
gotcha, makes sense then. Either way I’ve submitted my cute lil guy :3
New information has come to light regarding the sales requirements.
Apparently every other car in your sandbox will compete with your other cars for the same size market.
I could say that eveyone needs a empty sandbox to get accurate scores but that sucks for everyone, so i’m making the executive decision to cut the sales requirements, and scoring section. You will still be graded on how well your car could sell, but not on the way it actually does. I know this has caused issues for a few of you. But worry no more, just make good cars and set the price you think it should be sold at.
Would it be any easier to go by the market score for the car’s target market, coupled with the suggested price given by the game?
That’s basically what im doing now but it’s a bit more complicated then that. I haven’t ironed out the kinks yet but i have several test mules and a while to do that so it should be no problem.
can we put leaded gas in the car?
you might have problems with fuel availability which will hurt you but i dont see why not.
Can we use negative quality?
You can, but you may end up holding yourself back in the process, and going too far with it would be self-defeating.

(post deleted by author)
Oh I think I misunderstood the rules first time I read them… We can use any body but the model year has to be 1975 to 1981?
