BRC 1976 - Under Pressure [E8-Q]

according to the spreadsheet above, i’ll be at 26th, from 6th…

speed…speed…i am speed…NOT!

Howler, puffster. send me your engines, my 4l V8 is apparently not producing enough power (425) and yours can do a full 20 laps. :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh my. I doubt you are allowed to have such lewd pictures on such a reputable site! Practically pornographic. Very, very nice mate. Very nice.

Who told you t, oh, I mean, none of course :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

My actual entrant (in theory) is about half a second slower.

But thank you, I will take the accusation of demon dealings as a compliment!

Does anyone have a kit car style car? (low power, high economy and low weight? oh, i remade the livery of my car.

Providing engines in highly polished race tune to competitors sounds counterproductive to the goal of winning. I can confirm that my NA engine was smaller than that in displacement and made more power, if that helps.

In other news I’ve rebuilt my turbo entry from the ground up, since the one I sent in for testing was quite rushed and rough. The new one is a touch faster and should have a bit more range in it. Which means I can mostly stop worrying about running out of fuel and start worrying about others making more power.

I’m also going to go ahead and guess that @Absurdist’s car is either going to win with enough time to stop for a donut, or become a spectacular fireworks show (either by having the engine asplode or by merging with another car at speed). I look forward to seeing your Top Trump card.

Just so I don’t completely f myself with race strategy, @Der_Bayer can you please confirm the following:
1.) If rain falls at a X% density for a long time, will the track humidity eventually exceed X% or not? Ignoring the possibility of spikes in rainfall, of course.
2.) If the race starts during rain, I seem to have seen you mention that cars will start on the right tires automatically?
3.) Can I somehow specify that on all irregular stops, tires must always be changed, or is that automatic?
4.) Is there any common sense in the AI with regard to the weather pattern? For example if a car runs out of fuel JUST before the weather change threshold it would make sense for the team to put on dry weather tires anyway because they know it’ll get better soon from the forecast. I’m going to guess no because it would be hard to implement?
5.) How does damage affect speed? The basic damage threshold is set at 50%, can I estimate in any way how that would affect the lap times vs say 33%?

Edit:
6.) The R1 R2 R3 in BRCtool stand for three consecutive races? So it would be the first three races now, and second to fourth races if I were to reconsider my strategy after the first race?

Found half a second a lap round the ATT with brake tuning of all things! I dunno… I’m at the stage where I’m glad I ran out of time to revise this yet again.

So, presenting the Bamford Shark GT!

Bamford pulled some major stings with this bad boy, running the Teuton V8 (Created by Bamford India) and sponsorship from the Owen Group who decided to fund Bamford for one last laugh after seeing their BRM F1 team fall over, this mistake with wheels will be piloted by the least favourite member of the Bamford team and following his death, the second least favourite will take over.

We say “Aim Towards Enemy” because this thing is literally a point and shoot missile filled with racing fuel that will inevitably explode.

  1. I can confirm. I had a car starting on inters.

  2. is automatically afaik

  3. I’d wish there was parameters to specify things like that. Tire Strategy is THE thing in BRC that needs to be improved … at the moment there is way too much guessing and randomness involved.

IRL, the decision what tires to put on is made on the fly during the race. Since we can’t do that in BRC, we need a way to model some common sense as best as we can with parameters.

  1. and 5) would be interesting for me too.

Nononono- you cannot outdo me!

@Absurdist hahaha, well you know me. I ran the Chevy 265 small block in 1945 (I showed you the car during testing phase, remember?), 1955, and 1966. It was a good engine for its size! 1976 just doesn’t have enough power, even with OHC (you know I simply cannot run DOHC, right?) The Hockenheim test car for 1976 used a Chevy 302 small block (still OHV), but it still didn’t give enough power to move these heavy American cars competitively, again, not even with the OHC setup. From a purist point of view, however, I am not running a historical engine. There has never been an OHC small block from Chevrolet released to the public (there were rumors of experimentation, however). GM, however, did make one in the 90s called the Northstar V8 for Cadillac and Oldsmobile luxury barges.

I have (apparently) taken a block casting and re-engineered it for an overhead cam head setup. Strictly speaking, the 6.2L I am using also does not exist in 1976. It is a block from Generation IV small blocks, introduced in 2005. Theoretically, with elongated pistons and using a small block 400 crank, the engine could have been created using a 350 block, however, by boring it .060". Given the fabricated OHC setup anyway, the piston chamber could be engineered any way necessary to accommodate the longer pistons, making the engine itself theoretically accurate from a historical perspective. The chamber only needs to be .18" deeper, which is not all that much. Water and oiling jackets would be the biggest complication in the conversion. hahaha

EDIT: After looking this over again, it would not need elongated pistons, but rather custom rods to attain the shortened stroke instead.

@DeusExMackia

A Rolls Royce and a Cadillac Seville had a one night fling and that somehow popped out of it.

@Der_Bayer rounded down, how many hours left till submissions close, my day is going to be extremely packed, but I would like to work on my car more before turning it in, if there will be time.

wait, this test is the strategy test or the last pre season test?

Pre-season is over, this is final submissions for the full season I believe.

Yes, final submissions are due. Next race will be a practice race on the actual track to get your strategy setup. Didn’t see date announcement yet on it though. You have roughly 24 hours to get your car in, or you will miss the BRC!

DEADLINE: Monday, July 25, 4 p.m. CEST
Based on that, you have 22 hours. (With a small margin). (Please correct me if that’s wrong).

@07CobaltGirl Well, I guess you could explain it as an very early-pre-prototype designed on the back of a napkin by one inspired yet unfortunate Chevrolet engineer on a drunken adventure after a hard day of work?

It’s a well known fact that drunk people often lose their napkins of course, perhaps an equally drunken and adventurous engineer from SME happened on such a napkin? At which point he obviously took it.

It is well known that drunken people often have napkin collections.

@Absurdist Perfect! Now we have the story.

Cool, looks like I have to pull an all nighter :stuck_out_tongue:
Going to be interesting to throw this new car into the challenge without the pre-seasons tests to figure out its fuel and tire usage. I hope it does good, I am still partial to my stupid FR even if it is almost a full second slower than this new car now.

I recently found out just how badly tuned the M50 is… so i’m overhauling it. I managed to make it 1.5 seconds/lap faster while using a bit less fuel and reduced tyre wear. I’m still far from finished, i still need to make it faster in a straight line, 245km/h is awful.

Please for the love of all that is holy wait for independent verification. I don’t trust my working.

I’ve already submitted, pretty happy with what I had. Could have fiddled with it more, but, mehk. To be clear, did I need to assign a strategy yet? Or only after practice? Is practice like the tests? Or a simulated race?
