Catch the Bandits! [SUBS OPEN]

Catch the Bandits!

City of Acrylica, 2022

Background
“I’ve had it with these clowns!”
Mackenzie threw the newspaper across his office and shook his head.
“They evade us every single time!” A ceiling fan whirred above his head, “They’re practically untouchable with that Badger of theirs!”
“Sir?” A knock sounded on his door.
“What is it?” Mackenzie leaned back in his chair.
The door opened and a woman stepped through, “Have you seen the paper this morning?” She looked at the floor, “I take it you already have.”
“We can’t keep losing to THEM!” Mackenzie slammed his fist into the table. “They’re making us cops look bad!”
“I know the Wet Bandits have evaded us for quite some time, sir,” The woman said. “But they’re too fast. Even the choppers can’t keep up.”
“I know that!”
“They obviously have the need for speed, sir.”
“Wait a minute,” Mackenzie stroked the stubble on his chin, “Say that again.”
“They have the need for speed, sir?” The woman raised an eyebrow.
“THAT’S IT!!!” Mackenzie sprung out of his chair. “Maron, you’re a genius!”
“In what way, sir?” Maron cocked her head to the side.
“We need a faster car to keep pace with them!”
“Where will we get one, sir?”
“Oh, we have plenty in the impound garage from drug busts and stuff,” Mackenzie scratched his head. “Although, I’m more worried about what the chief will think.”
“The budget is tight this quarter, sir.”
“Start compiling a list of cars, Maron, starting with what we have impounded.” Mackenzie stood, “I’ll go run this idea by the chief.”
Maron nodded, “Yes, sir.”

TLDR - Build a high performance sedan or coupe for the police department to catch the elusive Wet Bandits.

The police are looking for a fleet of three identical vehicles: One sourced from the impound lot, two bought off the used car market.

Target Vehicle

2016 ACZ Badger DW16

Stats:
0-62 MPH - 4.4s
Top speed - 248 MPH
Lateral G - 1.07
Quarter mile - 11.48
Curb weight - 4160 lbs

Rules
  • Al Rilma open beta (now stable) only.
  • Model and family year - 2012-2020.
  • Trim and variant year - 2012-2020.
    • Car trim and engine variant must be the same year.
  • No legacy or open wheel bodies.
  • Car should have the basics for street legality (lights, wipers, gas cap, etc).
  • Bodystyle - Sedan or coupe as viewed by the game.
  • Techpool - 30M (no negative areas).
  • Front engine preferred.
  • Noise <70.
  • Emissions - WES 9.
  • Tire size must end in 5.
  • Must have 0% sportiness brake fade.
    • If your car has a top speed limiter, make sure it has 0% fade with the limiter removed.
  • Max 3 aero fixtures.
  • Seats - At least 2 full seats for coupe. At least 4 full seats for sedan.
  • Unleaded gas only, no higher than 93 AKI (aka pump gas).
  • No race parts (semi slicks, billet parts).
  • Max Price (in game): $75k.
  • ATS allowed within reason (don’t make the car something that it’s not).
  • Interiors not required.
  • No meme/joke cars.
  • No abusing glitches.
  • Cars that meet the rules but go against the spirit will be banned.

While the max price in game will be used for rule checking, this calculator will be used to determine the car’s sale price on the used car market for judging. It takes the in game price, reliability, and production units into account (entered in the YELLOW cells).

Feel free to break it so that I can improve it.

Priorities

:star::star::star:

Performance - If it can’t put up a fight with the Badger, it’s no good. If you’re not in the ballpark in multiple stats, the car will be ruled out right off the bat.
This does include weight. They intend to PIT maneuver if possible.

Service costs - As low as possible. The chief grumbled as he approved this, so don’t blow the budget on maintenance.
Lore can help you here. (ie, if your sports car has the same engine as a common pickup, parts will be much easier to source)

Reliability - What’s the point of a fast car if it’s spending half its time in the service bay?

Drivability - While some officers will get specialty training for driving this vehicle, the tamer it is, the better.

:star::star:

Price - Only 3 cars are needed, and one is already in the impound lot, but it needs to be cheaper than a chopper and be a sound investment.

Looks - Car should look realistic and the design should be well thought out.

Sportiness - The in game stat. How far can this car be pushed?

Safety - Things do go wrong with police chases. The officer driving wants a guarantee that he’s not stepping into a death trap.

:star:

Fuel Economy - This car will hopefully only be used in short stints for chases. They don’t want to break off chase because they ran out of fuel, but radios and the aforementioned chopper do exist if it happens.

Comfort - Again, short stints of driving, but it can’t rattle their bones to pieces.

Practicality - must be able to hold some police gear, but there are other vehicles in the fleet that can do the hauling for them. (holistically viewed, not based on the game stat)

Confused …so high sports hyper car …or some low end pretender like the vette and dodge box

This reminds me of what TMCC23 would have been if it were set in the present day, with the addition of a benchmark car to boot.

Production year only affects the used car price by $500 per year; is that deliberate?

Hmm, that should not be the case. Let me adjust that.

Some changes:

  • Changed 2020 cars having stricter rules
  • Adjusted techpool limits
  • Changed price calculator logic
  • Minor other tweaks

do semi-slicks count as race parts?

Good catch, I’ll change the rules.

About 36 hours remain for rule deliberation. Speak now or forever hold your peace.

Should we make our cars to a particular region’s specifications?

Nope. Free reign there. It just needs basic street legality.

EDIT: Added that to the rules along with Design being a 2 star priority (make it look well thought out).

Would a performance “ev” be allowed, similar to something like an Audi E-Tron/Porsche Taycan, or would they be potentially too new/untested technology? Or just too theoretical for an automation challenge.

I don’t think any sort of pure EV (even one simulated through lore) would be eligible - it would be too much work to balance under the current rule set.

Yeah, that’s fair, I suppose it is too much to ask for only a single submission… One of these days I’ll find one I can fit it in, but for now that means I gotta come up with some new ideas for this.

I thought the EV trick only worked for BeamNG, which this challenge doesn’t use. No EVs here, unfortunately.

Subs are also open btw

Would 750 HP be enough?

Im assuming all stats should be better than the ones the bandit car has mentioned, if not then insta bin?

Stats should be ballpark what the target is. Top speed I’ll probably have the most leniency on, but if the car is very outclassed by the badger (say a 6s 0-62 time and a top speed of 210 MPH), then it’s an instabin
