Hi guys
Would be a good thread, i think, someone post a challenge with the engine specs, year and limitations (like the scenarios). The first who complete the challenge (the engine will be uploaded and the challenger do not participate), could make a new one. Opinions?
For example:
Year: 1940
Power: more than 110Kw-150hp
Lifespan: more than 320 Mrevs
Weight: less than 150Kg
Superleaded 98 can be used.
here it is:
barely passes the specifications
wait. can’t upload the attachment
edit: with the original lifespan limit, or so I hear
Yes hehe i try before posting and need to change lifespan because 325 was impossible for me. Now is your time, post a new challenge.
ok, here it is:
it’s the 1980, and the new Rabbit is ‘the shite’
insurance companies are retaliating against the model and to work around their pricing a new, smaller engine has to be squeezed in the entry level model.
the new engine should drive better than the 1978 model 1.1L, while working around the new price fixing scheme:
size <= 1000cc
power >= 37kW
emission < 150g
loudness > 40
lifespan > 450Mrev
fuel: low quality unleaded
(yes I’ve one working here)
I’ve got 2 engines for this one.
Number one:
Size:1000 cc
power: 46.3 kW
Emmision: 118.5
Loudness: 70
Lifespan: 694 Mrevs
Number two: (I did not know if you really wanted an engine to be LOUDER than some limit)
Size:1000 cc
power: 46.3 kW
Emmision: 118.5
Loudness: 38
Lifespan: 698 Mrevs
You did not put the cost specification there, so I did just go for the most expensive parts.
I know that there is “pics or didn’t happen rule” but I’ve got something better. xml files:
1: sendspace.com/file/4obut1
2: sendspace.com/file/lx2629
I’ve tried to upload xml but it forbade me, and mediafire is now behind a loginwall
however, yes, I was for loudness: it’s a golf, after all!
your turn
OK. This scenario has got insane difficulty, but is possible, and I can give you the xml of the engine if you give up.
Year is 1980. Cossack Autos have ordered you to build an engine for their performance model (not CTE, but sporty one for sure). You have to give it power, while keeping it relatively reliable. You need to cut costs every corner, while keeping it light.
Basically, you’ve decided to accomplish impossible, yet possible task.
Size <= 2200 cc
Power => 125 kW (167.628 hp)
Lifespan => 500 Mrevs
Cost in Germany 1984 Factory <= 1000 $
Loudness <= 55 (so you won’t just go with no mufflers)
Weight <= 140 kg
Must run on 91 unleaded fuel.
That was indeed hard. Getting close to the specifications actually wasn’t that hard, but the finetuning took way more time
It was a battle between power and lifespan all the time. Weight, cost and loudness were no problem. Loved the challenge!

Here’s the xml: sendspace.com/file/dz40ev
Oopss i’m just working on it hehe, Crystal, your turn, post a challenge
.
Wanted to wait for Kubboz to confirm but ok
This one should have similar difficulty as the last challenge. At least for me it was
It’s the year 2010. Rising fuel costs have lead to a high demand for fuel-efficient engines. Folkswagon has therefore decided to ship their newest FW Powlo GreenMotion with a insanely fuel-efficient engine which also lasts very long and is cheap to manufacture. As the chief engineer it is your task to design an engine that meets the following specifications:
[ul]Manufacture Year: 2010
Displacement: 1600cc
Power: >= 52.2 kW / 70 hp
Lifespan >= 1000 MRevs
Economy <= 300 g/kWh
Loudness: <= 30
Cost in Germany, 2010: <= 2000 $
Fuel Type: Premium Unleaded 95
[/ul]
I have a problem with my game, the manufacture hours of all are extremely high and my cost are enormous hehe i think is a corrupted file or something.
EDIT: i close the game and after opening again, all was fine.
Not to difficult crystal, the rpm limit was the key hehe:

For the manhour / cost thing: that was probably due to the factory not being set to a reasonable year
if you try to build a 2011 engine in year 1950 it will take quite a bit of effort xD By restarting the game the factory rests, so that “solves” the problem
Thanks, i’ll be attentive with this.
Oh god, I thought this one was hard because I could barely meet the specs. I had it on mechanical injection … I feel embarrassed now
Oh well, I just started out on this game so I’m not too good but I’ll learn
Now my time hehe:
We are on 1992, OPEL/VAUHALL need to design a new sport engine, with good reliability, emissions and economy. The engine is for the future astra and vectra. Here the specs:
Premium unleaded 95
Displacement: <=2000cc
Power: >135HP-100Kw
Torque: >180Nm-133 ft-lb
Emisions: <65
Responsiveness: >50
Loudness: <45
Total cost: <1500$
Lifespan: >700
Economy: <350
Weight: <150Kg
Is possible, i think
i’m near too complete. Yes, it’s possible and i can improve it a bit more
XML: sendspace.com/file/ij12mw
Next challenge:
[ul]Manufacture Year: 2020
Weight <= 100 kg
Service costs <= 285 $ per year[/ul]
now that was quite easy
1.4L PushrodRev1.xml (1.73 KB)
new challenge coming up in a few minutes
ok new challenge
Year 2020
Emissions < 41 g/kWh
Lifespan > 1700 MRevs
Torque > 280 NM
RON 80
Cost < 1900 $
XML: sendspace.com/file/zdzm8p
New challenge:
[ul]Manufacture Year: 1940
Displacement = 393cc
RPM Limit = 7000
Power >= 42 hp / 31,3 kW
Lifespan >= 100 MRevs
Fuel Type: Super Leaded 98
[/ul]
Well, finally i made. My problem was to forget the 5 valves posibility:
dl.dropbox.com/u/66724041/393cc%2042HPRev0.xml
Give me some time for the next challenge.
New Challenge:
Is the year 2004, and Renault needs to design a new 1.0 engine to equip a new city car for south america and other similar markets, a bulletproof engine, with good power and torque, using regular unleaded petrol (91 RON):
Power: >50HP // 37,3 kW
Torque: >78Nm // 57,5 ft-lb before 3000 rpm
Redline before 6300rpm
Emissions: <55 g/kWh
Loudness: <30
Cost: <1600$
Lifespan: >850
Economy: <300 g/kWh
Weight: <110Kg
