Realism and history are two different things.
I don’t have a beef with the rules, I have a problem with the lack of disclosure.

Aye I’m not out yet! That’s a surprise
My god this always happens with people who haven’t done csr before.
I would say have a look through the bin stages of the last couple of csr challenges and see why people were eliminated and it’ll be quite a few similar things of strange choices or bad engineering
They are related things. There is a reason boxer engines were not usually mounted transversely in real life: It takes more space with the engine’s comparatively huge width. This is not very well-reflected in Automation because stroke has no bearing on engine size in the game. But in reality, it would be difficult to mount and even worse to service than a longitudinal boxer - another thing not well reflected by the game.
Either way, my decision is final.
gonna let you in on a little secret; judging is inherently very subjective.
it’s not a lack of disclosure, it’s the judge subjectively deciding what’s realistic and what isn’t. in this case, it was the choice to use a transverse boxer. just because you disagree with that fact that it’s an unrealistic choice, doesn’t change the judge’s subjective opinion. disagree all you’d like, but it won’t change the result.
Right…
This has happened before? Note I joined just days ago. Maybe if it were in the FAQ or a sticky, it wouldn’t?
To have several days of work just dismissed out of hand for breaking rules you failed to state is just shitty. Losing is a part of fun, but this isn’t. End of line indeed.
Shit gets fucked in CSR.
A handful of hosts have binned for much more inane things in the name of “realism”, and years ago (well before clutched LSDs were in game) there was a long running debate over whether auto locking differentials (also known as Detroit Lockers) were “realistic” to use in 60s muscle cars.
A transverse FWD boxer may be theoretically possible, but they’ve never actually happened.
Your best bet for dealing with CSR is to watch a few from the sidelines to see what happens.
Had this been QFC you may have still been a contender…
CSR is a whole different animal.
Key words: Use your judgement. You judged wrong. And as I said later in that comment…
I said this on discord earlier but might as well say it here. Yes, it is never fun getting an early bin. However, with the amounts of entries generally being sent into a CSR, early judging has to be more harsh than for some other challenges. Even really good ones will not even see the finals, and if swallowing the pride, being rejected early or late is in the end only two sides of a coin…
I couldnt believe I forgot to change the model year from 1978 to 1980, but obviously, I did. AAAARRRRGGGHHH. This happens when you spend hours on detail things to get the best out of it, but then overlook the most basic points. A shame, but the host is not to blame.
Lesson learned. Pretty much what I expected from my first CSR.
Surprisingly not binned! I’m happy with anything that happens after this.
Sadge for the bin, i wanted to do something quirky and figured that if american mounted big ole V8s that way, a small boxy boy wouldn’t be that much more of an hassle to fit.
But hey, it is what it is, better luck next time with my entry!
Fingers crossed I’m not dead last… but here’s expecting a lower placing.
In retrospect, some of the mistakes that led to many entries having an early exit defied all logic, such as:
I also find that configuration to be highly unrealistic, and therefore have never used it in any of my builds.
That’s a reminder to use every tech pool point in your initial allotment. Also, an all-alloy engine would have been far less reliable in 1980 than it would have been just a decade later, and a cam profile of >50 is generally better suited to performance cars.
ITBs are generally overkill on anything that isn’t a true performance car, and staggered tires usually only make sense on more powerful RWD or rear-biased AWD cars.
As I stated earlier, I tried importing one of the cars built on a legacy body set, but could not, due to not having downloaded the legacy body mod pack. However, many legacy bodies resemble their replacements, which can be problematic for those who do have the mod pack installed.
If the combination of an exorbitant price and poorly tuned engine are enough to make it a meme(ish) build, I don’t know what is. And even if that engine had been placed in a proper sports car, the immense turbo lag would have wasted the huge power output.
Considering that comfort was a priority almost as important as drivability and reliability, sacrificing it was definitely unwise.
In short, a deathtrap.
At any rate, I’m relieved my entry will still be considered - for now.
My apologies my inherent bias lead me to believes that cars made in the seventies where clunky and inefficient due to the gas crises and companies throwing ideas at the wall to try to compete with the small econoboxes coming from overseas
Excuse me sir but on 40+ entries you seems to be the only one that missunderstood this part, or almost the only one.
Maybe the problem isn’t the statement of the rules, but you who’s not understanding it.
You can’t get in finals every csr, and certainly not your first one.
This will give you an experience of csr, not to make the same mistakes on the next one, you can’t know everything at your first participation.
This being said, I wish you the best for the next one and don’t forget that you can have help from the community on discord.
What is meant by individual throttle body? I don’t see that option in the game at all, is that an other term for per cylinder?
