CTC - Car Tycoon Challenge #5 - 2014 [RESULTS]
I’m aware that the shows are essentially marketing and that my experience is largely based on them. But it isn’t TOTALLY based on TV… I worked at both Nissan and Mitsubishi here in Aus and every 4WD that came in that went offroad had some type of aftermarket part on it! Your CJ isn’t stock; saying it’s “basically” stock just doesn’t cut it. You modded your truck because you perceived that the original design was deficient in some way.

My point was that no-one uses FACTORY stock 4WD’s for anything other than occasional 4WDing and those that do it for fun or work conduct modifications to their vehicle to make this safer/easier/more fun. Therefore worrying about losing out to a 4WD van in an online competition is just silly as all the offroad vehicles produced by manufacturers aren’t actually that great for offroading and need extra parts, even if that’s a winch, big towbar or a diff-locker…
I made a new thread so we don’t derail this one any more than we already have.

The van results just prove my argument. Since when in real life do people choose a lifted 3 seat van over an estate for a family car?

AND IT SOLD OUT! If it didn’t it could win at least 2 more cats. But sure. I’m wrong and a sore loser even though I said what I said even before the results came out.
Not anything personal against Reaper, I actually like his cars. Nor Pirlix even though he came out of nowhere to talk shit about my entries that I didn’t even had time to fine tune.

Its Pyrlix :stuck_out_tongue:
I made my single entry yesterday 3h before CTC ended - nuff said. I am actually very happy that my Canto SW sold that well this time - first time I am on the podium! For a car that I made last minute in almost a hurry… pretty good. But I expected 400k sales and not just 250k

Families do love big and stupid cars sometimes - but usually its those with 8 seats not a transporter. But hey! Many room for diapers and a child’s pushchair. And MANY toys!
But as previously said - the Utility stat as we know it will change to a different one… or two. Right now its for both cargo space and city compactness, and that does not make sense. Also all stats will be rebalanced anyways… i mean… sooner or later there will be Diffs in the game!

I expect the van did so well in those categories because it was so damned cheap and it had a very high utility score to make up for the areas it lacked. Hopefully we will see the utility score split into two though, with one utility stat only getting a minor boost from load space and the other getting a major boost from load space

I think I broke even; my basic car sold enough units but I overpriced my sports sedan… There’s always next time, I s’pose :frowning:

Second place for the Vinter KGT 5.8!

While the Xero 3.5 lived up to it’s name, it was a very exciting challenge nonetheless.

Cheers guys!

THE MID-ENGINED SUPERCAR BODY WON IN 5 CATEGORIES!!! BAN IT!!!

In sport categories and it was 2 different cars. I see nothing wrong with a sporty looking body winning sports categories. All I see wrong is the lack of more MR bodies.

Follow the link at the top of page 15,

Kilrob said they will be working on the off-road stat soon.

I didn’t posted on your topic because besides the OFF$ the van is also OP e FY and C$.

So to stop the discussion (which lacked constructive criticism a bit but therefore contained much whining):

Banning bodies is not a solution because it does not solve the problems of the game/my challenge. The game will be adjusted and my challenge has to be tweaked a little bit in order to not favor certain bodies in the current game build.

The main issues are:[ul]
]Offroad is off the 0-100 scale/:m]
]Utility is off the 0-100 scale/:m]
]Utility is a mix of cargo/passenger space, towing, seats, size, …/:m][/ul]

The van body seems to be overpowered because it is the only body so far which offers very good utility. Offroad can be extremely good on every body which allows for big wheels. Huge stats are apparently giving more score, so being off the scale hurts. As I said: That’s not a problem of the van body but of the game/my challenge.

The issues will be handled in the following way:
[ul]]Offroad is currently rebalanced in closed beta/:m]
]Utility will be split into practicality and real utility for the Steam release/:m][/ul]

It does not make any sense in my head to make up practicality and utility stats myself before the Steam release. We will probably have one or two CTCs after CTC 6, so too much effort for too little gain.

What can be done after CTC 6 (where all these issues shouldn’t be problems anyway)? I can adjust the scale of utility and offroad by multiplying the stat with a factor of ~0.5-0.7. That would make the disadvantages of bodies with bigger wheels and more cargo space (i.e. higher cost, weight, drag, etc.) more prominent and everything should be balanced a little bit better.

I’m not too worried about it, its a game, and its a glitch, those two almost always go hand in hand.

Your competitions provide the Devs with very useful feedback on what is working and what isn’t.
And whether or not that body had a particular advantage it was allowed and available to all players.

In the end I still enjoyed the heck out of it, and I am not going to allow a glitch to ruin my fun.
I would hope that said glitch and whining doesn’t spoil you on all of the hard work you put into it.

I second this motion… Thanks Der Bayer for even running this comp as it really helps with designing cars that aren’t super high powered uber-beasts!!!

Everyone don’t forget to enter CTC #6!!!
