Huangdou’s Answer to the Volkswagen Santana
During the private car ownership boom in China in the 1990s, Honghu’s Huangdou developed the Haiyang (GZHD7181) as a full domestic competitor to the mass-selling Volkswagen Santana.
Honghu was still in the early days of their joint venture with Sisten, still relying on the foreign manufacturer to help them mend out multiple quality control issues with the Huangdou lineup.
The Haiyang (officially the GZHD7181) was the first to pilot hot-dip technology for the chassis before officially transferring the technology over to the smaller GZHD7121. Meanwhile on the running gear side, a domestic 1.8L 4-cylinder engine was adopted with Sisten’s technological input, with less than 90 horsepower transferred through a 5-speed manual transmission.
Pictured behind was the older Haiyang. Between both models, no changes other than cosmetic ones were made - limited essentially to swapping the front fascia for a more modern look.
The Haiyang remained the same in the rear between both generations. In fact, for almost 10 years, Huangdou’s mid-sized sedan remained unrefreshed, until being completely redesigned in the 2003 year.
While the Santana still outsold the Huangdou 18-to-one, the Haiyang remained a crucial stepping stone to the powerhouse brand it is in the modern day.

1995 Alvern Salus SRi 16V
“Setting the new standard”
The SRi and ESi trims had existed alongside eachother since 1986, but an effort to minimize the trim levels resulted in the ESi getting axed instead, making the SRi Alvern’s sole sport trim.
The first post-ESi vehicle would debut in 1995, the Salus SRi. A sports version of the traditional rep-mobile Salus driven by all miserable and slightly depressed sales reps throughout the British isles.
In stark contrast to the heavy black plastic and optional passenger door mirror of the normal Salus, the SRi featured red sporty plastic trim, 16 Valves, a top speed of 132MPH and the luxury of 2 door mirrors. Totally not the recipe for a sporty daily driver that will top the UK most stolen car lists.

Basically mine but better
Introducing the all new for 1995, Monaire Ziege SC! The owner of Monaire always holding onto the noble ideal of a rear engine rear drive car for the masses, the Ziege SC presents a quiet, comfortable, yet commanding presence. Thanks to the ingenious compact Boxer 4 format there’s still a traditional trunk on top of the ginormous frunk. Other fun quirky design features of this soon to be beloved liftback include backwards opening rear doors for a massive improvement in ease of access: Perfect for those with mobility issues! Standard turn signals on the power mirrors, massive windshield wiper coverage and so many more practical considerations. It really is a testament how we design for people first.
For those who want a little more fun with their cars will be delighted to know that the Ziege SC has a Roots style Supercharger for fierce low end power while sipping gas with an EPA estimated 26mpg combined, plus a CVT to ensure max power at all times. Proudly passing WES 7 despite no catalytic converters, as our engineers are geniuses at maximizing efficiency and reliability.
We at Monaire are so confident with our vehicles we have a 100,000 mile warranty for the powertrain! But even after that warranty we always design our cars for ease of maintenance and longevity so you’ll never worry about the future.

Altan was born in 1989, when the privatization of Mexico’s state owned automotive sector left a group of engineers without a home.
Having spent years on the assembly lines of DINA, MASA, and VAM, some building heavy-duty buses and trucks that simply couldn’t fail, others fine tuning passenger vehicles, they chose not to disperse among the incoming foreign automakers. Instead, they decided to establish their own brand in the Mexican Plateau (Altiplano) hence the name Altan.
By 1995, that combined expertise took shape as the Temerario: a compact sedan engineered with the same rugged logic that dominated the streets. It features a simple, easy to maintain 1.6L engine, a straightforward body structure ready for any local mechanic shop, and not a single gram of pretension. It only lacked a bit of its own bold attitude. We took care of that.

1995 Seaforth Pennine 1.5T Base Spec
With Seaforth’s racing division using a 1.6 turbocharged flat 4 and upcoming tax rules in the UK punishing cars over 1549cc Seaforth set out to create a racing inspired engine to power the base model of their compact executive car, the Pennine.
Between it’s engine, 5 speed electronically managed auto and parent company Wentworth’s hydropneumatic suspension the 1995 Pennine is one of the most technologically advanced cars available while still being economical and reliable.

1995 EMR EL3 3.0 GT
4 doors, a decently sized trunk, a 5-seat premium interior with 6-speaker CD/cassette stereo, automatic climate and cruise control, dual front airbags, anti-lock brakes, variable power steering, and traction control are all well and good for satisfying the head, but there’s also plenty of stuff here to set your heart aflutter…
…like a 240-horsepower 3.0-liter straight-six powering the rear wheels (16-inch alloys wrapped in low-profile high-performance tires on the GT trim level) via a 5-speed manual gearbox and helical limited-slip differential, as well as a sportier suspension tune for better handling in all situations with no loss of comfort, and 4-wheel vented disc brakes (13-inch 2-piston front/12-inch 1-piston rear) capable of resisting fade even after sustained, repeated efforts.
