Error upon game launch

So I just bought the game off of Steam, and whenever I try to launch it, I get this error:

I restarted the game and it said it again, so I tried hitting continue, which brought me to the menu to start the game, but when I choose that it happened again.

I hit continue and choose my settings for resolution and windowed, but when I hit OK it crashed.
Anyone have any idea what this could mean, i’ve never experienced it before and I was excited to try this game but now I can’t play it at all.

Looks like you maybe need to install an earlier version of Direct X. Sometimes the newer ones lack certain files needed.

Yep, I was having this same problem but installing DirectX from the Microsoft website fixed it.
