The forum switch is incomprehensible. If people
posting from mobiles are so important one has to wonder how these people
play the game at all. If I was making games that run on PCs I would
make sure PC users can benefit.
As others wrote before, I will try to stay clear of forums that
imitate facebook and twitter. I only opened this thread a 2nd time
because I have bookmarked it.
No hard feelings, but, uh, your criticism is unsubstantial on multiple levels:
You havenât established how PC users arenât benefiting from this switch, something thatâs been evidenced in the way earlier concerns were addressed.
Therefore, attacking the forum switch based on the premise it only benefits mobile users and mobile users are irrelevant is erroneous and is simply countered by the fact that one does not have to be playing the game to be partaking in activities related to it, or discussing it. To reductio ad absurdem, if access to the forums outside of the context of actual gameplay were completely irrelevant, one has to wonder why the forums exist at all.
p.s. I notice that youâve bookmarked a thread and thus returned to it, meaning that you have started learning the added functionality of this new forum, so why donât you just keep doing that? Wait lol absurdist ninjaâd me while I was typing the rest of my post.
Well I got used to new forum and kinda like it. and its amusing to read some people still mindlessly bashing around
But⌠(there is always a nice butt )
you know when we had at the beginning suggested topics and at first they were just random but than I noticed that it displayed me the unread ones⌠and I liked that.
The idea: when you have several unread posts you have 2 options
a) go to unread and open everyone in separate tab
b) open single one than go back home klick unread and repeat
soooo how about
c) you open single one and than have:
c.1) Unread topics below where suggested ones were (I would prefer this one)
c.2) have unread section button (same as in home page) at the top (save us one mighty click)
thoughts?
Before we consider this suggestion, open up the hamburger menu and have a look at the keyboard shortcuts. At first I was mystified as to why they existed, as Iâm always uncomfortable with scripted hotkeys that may or may not conflict with other existing scripts (like custom Macros etc.). But all things considered, they make surfing a lot quicker. No more scrolling this way and that, just press g, l and I jump to âlatestâ. And if I want to get rid of notifications, I just press g, n, x, t and poof, dismissed!
@zeussy Could we perhaps have a sticky thread posted somewhere with all of the various tutorials and instructions on how to edit text, color, size, etc.?
Nettiquette dictates that thou wonât double post edit button and everything.
But to be honest, the entire argument being that PC-users donât benefit is quite ridiculous. They do. Flexibility is a huge thing. And as said before, this platform just is waaaaaaay more flexible than the one that used to be. Posting also has improved, as well as keeping up with certain topics. Itâs not easier for people using a mobile phone. Itâs easier for people. Period. I donât know whether this will actually matter, though. Dogmatism is beautiful.
I canât even pretend Iâm not trying to be offensive anymore: I want to bookmark this post for future reference. The potential for ridicule is so plentiful I donât even have time to do it right now
I want to say that after spending some time with the new forum, it grows on me and i do i like the notification system a lot. And while the from a readability perspective, i still think it could be better, but i wouldnât want to go back to the old forum.
If it helps any, donât think of me as a Beta-tester, Iâm only replying in my capacity as a regular forum user
On a slightly more serious note, you do realise that Beta-Testers have no additional functional privileges in this forum nor is it our âjobâ to test the forum. The entire community has had an opportunity to provide feedback (of varying degrees of constructiveness). As you can see by looking at my profile, I have a âbasicâ trust level. No special tricks or privileges here.
Now, Iâve gone and been naughty and wasted a lot of forum space with this light-hearted banter. I should actually stop being a hypocrite and do something constructive, so how about I summarise what I see as the pros and cons of the new format and see if weâve got any kind of consensus thus far:
###PROS
More flexible with admin ability to customise forum functionality to user feedback
Markdown system is simpler and quicker to use with greater versatility than phpbb3
Attached images donât get cropped and require scrolling
Much larger maximum attachment size limit
Ability to rapidly navigate with hotkeys
Bookmark thread/post function is faster and easier to use
Notification system for addicts (like me)
Much less wasted space within each post
Infinite scroll (yes this is contentious, but weâve now established that it doesnât use up any more bandwidth, and is actually less clunky to navigate than pages)
More transparent editing system and user ability to move OP to different sections of the forum if they get it wrong the first time
Much more mobile friendly for people who surf forums even when theyâre not playing the game
Draft autosave and post syncing system means that navigating using browser buttons wonât inadvertently send you back to editing your post.
###CONS
Forced round user avatars which are still a bit too small cuts off the image and also makes it harder for us to ID which user is involved unless weâre visual thinkers who know everybodyâs avatar off by heart
Somewhat difficult relationship between post area width and different monitor setups
Impossible to manage multiple drafts at the same time (it seems)
Hotkey system may conflict with existing macros
People have to actually learn new things
It looks slightly more like a modern social media platform so everybody who doesnât want to be reminded of Facebook/Twitter/etc. starts twitching and wants to set fire to the nearest overgrown beard (do all hipsters wear overgrown beards, or is that just a Melbourne thing?)
This post will probably be edited as I think of more things.
