Forum-Critque-Thread

There is no badge for creating a thread. This is a clear oversight!

I also found out that you can get to trust-level 3 without any ā€œproblemā€. You only need to be active. And if you reach that you can edit titles of threads and do other kind of stuff. A bit dangeorus as anyone can reach it.

@Leonardo9613 ā€œBeta Testerā€

I do think that some people will miss me. But you are absolutely right, I should leave, and I will certainly not miss you.

P.S. Are only the biggest trolls made beta testers here?

now now letā€™s not over-generalise, that would be needlessly offensive to those Beta testers who are not Leo or myself

(And Iā€™m okay with being called troll-like: not only was I taking the piss for a while, back in my more wasteful days of youth I used to ā€˜huntā€™ the trolls for sportā€¦ one needs to be capable of being one to hunt one).

@BurningBridges dude, seriously, if you want to leave the forum, just do it, you donā€™t have to threat us that you will just do it, and if you say youā€™ll stop posting, then stop posting. Otherwise youā€™re just a child that canā€™t let go.
Second, you already left before, after a rant because the game was released in bits instead of being fully released and then patched with updates. You came back and rant about the use of steam, saying that it filled your computer with weird porn viruses, and then rant about the mods being in the workshop because that means that valve owns the mods of something, but obviously when asked for proof you failed to bring any.
What mindset do you have? What do you want to accomplish? You want us to apologize and beg you to not leave? That wonā€™t happen. Youā€™re close to be the new theh4x0r1337. If you donā€™t stand or like this forum, the way it is handled or their users, just left and you wonā€™t have to ā€œtolerateā€ us anymore.

You can put your company link in your forum profile ā€œabout meā€ tab. Therefore if anyone clicks on your profile picture while browsing a thread, they can find your car company easy.

Try mine, I set it up so my company link is in my ā€œabout meā€ tab, and therefore is easily view-able if you click my pic.

As strop said, weā€™re just giving back the same kind of treatment. You donā€™t punch (several times, in this case) someone and expect them to come back with flowers, do you? Youā€™ve been looking for trouble and being disrespectful since day 1.

Also, the beta tester badge means absolutely nothing, other than having to sometimes give them feedback.

EDIT: @strop, check out my user card, on preferences you should just add something like this on the about me field ā€œ[name you want to give] /link/ā€, replacing the slashes with ( ).

Ok that conā€™s been removed. I assume that you can use the Markdown to hyperlink image links with ID tags in the card too, though that might make the background image of the card a bit redundant.

Iā€™ve been thinking about how best to utilise that space. I might end up drawing an entirely new image just for the purpose.

Talking about which, I would really appreciate if the card was made transparent, so we could actually see the image, right now 3/4 of the height are blocked by a grey rectangle.

yes plz.

Only problem with that is that the buttons at the bottom of the card would be difficult to read, so maybe letā€™s go with reducing the level of grey.

Regardless of where you are on the debate, if you find yourself getting upset, thatā€™s a sign youā€™re too deep in this. Itā€™s just forum software. It reeaaaly doesnā€™t matter THAT much. back away, have a drink and reset.

As the dev team are continuing to work on it, it will get better and they address issues people bring up. However, we have kinda swamped them with demands at the moment. So, obviously that canā€™t do it all at once.

If, in the end, some people hate it so much that they canā€™t use it. They will leave. And that is sad. But, that would be true for any given forum software anyway. Let alone changes to the game itself.

There is some really cool features that this software can allow down the line. So, I am looking forward to that. Steam integration for one would be cool I think.

The main reason why many do not respect you burningbridges is that quite often, you have complained about things, asked others to fix it in a very rude manner, and offered no constructive suggestions or completely ignored other peoples arguments.

I can give you many examples looking at your post history.

-Complained that Felgenā€™s mid-engined car was broken since you were getting bad lap times, after you finally sent us your file, we saw that it was caused by a massive engine on tiny tires, which caused obvious issues. You ended up agreeing with our conclusions, but only after a few more very rude posts.
-You have complained many times about people not releasing mods for steam, even though it makes it much more of a PITA to the modders only to help a very small percentage of users.
-You put you foot in your mouth hardcore once by complaining rudely that they hadnā€™t released the patch for the standalone, a few days after they did.
And many others

You have also made a couple of decent contributions, but that doesnā€™t really compensate for your overall very disrespectful behavior.

Did i say it loads the whole thread? NO
But it loads fresh when i hit the END button. And it loads AGAIN fresh when i press the HOME button.
So yes, once i enter the thread and hit END, itā€™s slower. In the old forum there was no delay!

But who cares. Iā€™ll just skip these forums, use the one in steam for questions, and iā€™m sure i notice a new BRC challenge in the IRC. Bye

The thing is, how is this different from loading the first page of a thread on the old forums, then the last one, then the first one, etc, etc?

In both cases, it downloads the page/posts every single time.

Just wanted to respond to some people who started to dig up things that were no longer present to me.

The tone in this forum has always been very rude. Not just from my side. It started with the supercar topic where I was of course too brash and got instantly flamed, perhaps deservedly. I cannot remember exactly what it was just that I found it stupid how you need to make changes to the wheel wells before you can select bigger tyres, and that some people then send me improved versions of my car where they had just bumped the quality sliders. That was not a criticism of Felgenā€™s car which is excellent and very beautiful, although it is now strangely missing from the game.

Now to my problems here in general. The way I see it there is a small clique (Leonardo is a fine example) who respond to every criticism with vitriol so that they in turn can call others disrespectful. Why should I respect those people? It never went on that path from either side.

Also take a look your post, and some others before you. You pick a few examples that fit a certain narrative, paint them in the worst way possible, claim that I never offered constructive suggestions which is definitely not true, write about me condescendantly and downplay the contributions I made. I can now either start an endless bickering of post which I dont want to or let the accusations go unanswered. Just let me say that my stand on Steam, the problems with the Standalone, the sloppy programming, the unavailability of mods (which would just take few clicks to fix), the many people who take cars for competitions they never finish, and most of all the arrogance and sheer ignorance of certain people remain, and I am glad it got at least noted.

It is of course correct I was never happy with the way the program works or how the community works and that this reflects in many of the posts I made. That may make me a very evil person, but I stick to my decision to say what I think and not to fit in to a community where everyone must choose to either take a deep bow to the fanboys or go away.

I have no problem with ending this chapter, the game has been a drain to me lately and the new forum makes matters much easier. Itā€™s just a few words written in a forum and certainly not something worth starting endless arguments about.

Best wishes to you and everyone!

But your post here offered nothing constructive? "Is this the new design for the forum? Your first post here ā€œI canā€™t even share my thoughts because that would violate the forum rules.ā€

and for your second post was even just bashing the new forum with the ā€œoh my gurd mobile users, its not 1995 anymoreā€
/thread

Then you lump all beta testers into a category simply because your outlandish replies were called out. And go ahead, scroll up, you will notice im not a fan of this new forum either, but i posted what i didnt like, and keep adapting, learning and using it.

Thank you all for your feedback, we will continue to take note of if all and make as many improvements as we can.

Iā€™m sorry if moving to more modern forums has ruined anyoneā€™s forum experience, but I think we had all learnt to put up with a lot of strange broken issues with the old forums, so Iā€™m sure we can learn to accept the few quirks of discourse that we cant fix.

Iā€™d very much appreciate it if we could keep this thread about actual feedback on forum features we could attempt to change. ā€œThis new forum is the worst thing that ever happened and has ruined my lifeā€ style posts really arenā€™t going to help us make the forums any better.

If youā€™re feeling angry that weā€™ve moved onto forum tech you donā€™t like either A: give us some ideas on what we could tweak to improve it B: put up with it how it is. Or C: stop using

Tried A.
Was ignored and laughed at.
So i take Option C now.

@mer_at But, after your first post, and a few others, killrob did indeed make changes based on feedback that he had.

The drama is hilarious but one can only eat so much popcorn. Thereā€™s one mythical criticism I need to dispel once and for all.

Consider that the new forum loads ten posts at a time. The old phpbb3 also did this on each page (more recently it started loading 15 or something idk). When you hit HOME in the new system itā€™s the equivalent of clicking page 1 on the old forum. That involves loading, I think we agreed on that already.

This time, the contentious assertion is that hitting END loads the last 10 posts again.

ā€¦but this is just the same as reloading the final page of the thread in the old phpbb3 system. Unless thereā€™s a difference in the way the posts cache. My point is the criticism is still moot because thereā€™s no net difference!
