JOC5B - 4 wheels good, 8 wheels better [Submissions Closed]

“Oh look, dear! How quaint - a modern Norðwagen. What a curiosity, this… uh…”

2016 Norðwagen Sleipnir TX-6

Its party trick: a heavy-duty pneumatic-assist suspension, featuring adaptive dampers and swaybar disconnects, can be raised and lowered up to 15cm at any time by a knob on the console. The system is designed fail-safe and built for serious off-road use, synergizing with six manual gears, four meaty all-terrain tires, and three manually locking helical gear-type differentials. Yet it retains the comfort and composture of a car.

Enjoy!

How did you squeeze that into the budget? Primus sells you only the 4x4 base trim for that.

It’s under budget, in fact. @Ludvig - now that submissions are closed, any problem with me posting the .car here?

cant wait to get instabinned

Round One
The binned on nitpicky technicalities gang

Anna: Eric, I’m home! I picked up a copy of the march edition of Quinta Rueda. The clerk told me the april edition was slightly delayed.
Erica: Nice, I didn’t know they had physical magazine anymore. Let’s have a look…there’s a wagon double test on page 13.

@ThatEpicBob Ibishu Pessima 1,8 LX AWD

Anna: That Ibishu looks familiar…I see, it’s been on the market since 2007, I’d prefer something more modern.
Erica: Come on, being able to buy cars considered classics elsewhere is one of the perks of living in Mexico.

Binned for: 2007 Model year.
Well, you called it. It is pretty congruent as an older model, with a lot of techpool left on the table, an affordable price tag, and a rather dated design by 2016. The engine would benefit from having a way smaller turbo.

@lotto77 Halvson G3E Harrier Cross-X4

Anna: The modern Halvson seems to be clearly better, but expensive to run, and requires 95 gas. Let’s move on to that triple SUV test…

Binned for: 95 RON gas.
A solid middle of the road wagon, it’s best feature is crash safety. Design is also pretty safe, but the DRLs keep it contemporary.

@DuceTheTruth100 Axxus MP5 Grand

Anna: This actually looks real cool, it dares to stand out with some sharp sculpting.
Erica: From a distance yes, but it’s got some quality control issues, is expensive to run, and apparently they’re sending leftover stock from last year to Mexico. At least there’s a 30 year rust warranty.

Binned for: 2015 trim, 2012 variant.
This one deserves a new engine, mostly for reliability but could help with drivability and service costs as well.

@Koviico Arima Syscvara

Anna: This one looks great, but apparently the engine is set up to run very lean, and thus rather sluggish. It’s faster than it’s size and horsepower figure suggests though, due to high torque.
Erica: Probably for emissions. It’s expensive to run, and surprisingly, it even struggles a bit off road.

Binned for: 92,6 RON gas.
The engine struggles to avoid knock, would advise lower compression, richer fuel and a smaller turbo.

@Happyhungryhippo Primus Scout 1,2Tx

Anna: So, this one wins the triple test, on account of being easier to drive, and cheaper to run, with great mileage for a SUV. I like the 3D tail lights, but not the front end.
Erica: Eh, it requires 95 RON gas, not like every gas station here offers that. Nice color though. Let’s take a look at the feature Prueba on page 7, while we’re at it…

@Hilbert Eltre Alpes Cross 1.4 Sense

Erica: The Eltre looks like a good deal, apparently it’s super comfy and fuel efficient. And very cute…
Anna: Sure, but it’s tiny, and the safety rating isn’t great. We agreed to look for something larger than the Swanson, yes? But let’s keep it in mind if we feel like replacing it down the road.

Binned for: wheelbase under 2,6m.
That said, it’s a good looking, competent effort, and while it does score lowest for safety, it gets the BBW (Best Bin Win) award.

@moroza Go ahead, it’s your IP.

Meta: Not having the exporter means Thing Take Time a bit more than expected. But I’ll work towards a more indepth look at the remaining cars this weekend.

One of my few cars with a Standard interior. This was definitely a speedrun.

BBW…

That might have to be a thing.

I appreciate your review, I will definitely put in a new powerplant and save this one for another time.

That Harrier is once again done over by my inability to read

Maybe, but is there not any better short we can use than BBW? :rofl: Or should we introduce “most interesting loadspace form” and “best driving sports machine” too?

Many an unwitting gearhead has abbreviated their fondness for Big Block Chevy motors and how they’d like to stuff one in the front, occasionally in the back. It’s 2024, folks; we giggle but don’t judge.

i was right

Any news on this at all?

Any news? It’s been a month @Ludvig

Since I am already binned I can take over the hosting if its really not possible for the current one to finish this.

But lets give @Ludvig some time to think about it first, how he is willing to handle it in the end.

OK, being the one that started up JOC as a challenge series, I feel that I have to step in here.

Ludvig has not made any posts on the board since his last post in this thread. I hope he is all well, but since he said that he should “take a look at the remaining cars during the weekend” and nothing have happened since that, I guess there is a possibility that there are more important stuff going on in his life, and I won’t judge anyone for that, life can take turns that means that computergames are your last priority of them all.

However, to not kill off this challenge series, I had planned a reboot with JOC6 if nothing happens in the JOC5 thread. To start with, both JOC 4 and 5 has been spinoffs of JOC3, and starting JOC5 in the modern day era was maybe not a decision appreciated by everyone (as I have said, it should be avoided), and after over a year with the same family I guess that we can move on to something totally new. Then Ludvig, when and if he feels ready to come back, can finish 5B judging.

However, since Hippo did shout “shotgun” here I guess I can give JOC6A to him if he wants to.

First of all, I give Ludvig the upcoming week to at least give a sign of life. If we hear nothing from him during the week, I say, as the “owner” of this challenge series, that Hippo is free to step in and start over on JOC6A.

Wasn´t supposed to be shotgun style.

As you mentioned, if something unpleasant happens, dragging you away from rather unimportant things like Automation, you might see it as a benefit having another person taking over the duty so that you can make your mind free of the burden. That was my intention.

No, I didn’t mean it like that, but since you have offered to, you can as well start up a new round if you want to, in case Ludvig doesn’t answer during the upcoming week.

I hope @Ludvig is ok
