1994 Axxus A5 LS

Entering it’s final year on this platform, the Axxus A5 has added an LS (Luxury Sport) trim package. Comfort, with a bit of sport. Still with the values of yesteryear, the Axxus A5 is still here.

1994 Arlington Archprince

Unbowed and uncompromised

Arlington is a company of rules and standards: You don’t torture a customer. You don’t rip a customer off. You never design an anonymous, amorphous blob. So when Arlington dressed its Archprince full-size up in boy-racer air dams, badging and blackened trim, they still had to abide by those same restrictions. That’s why the RFQ version of the Archprince is still a comfortable, reliable highway cruiser; still an affordable and sensible body-and-frame alternative to more expensive modern luxury; and still the spitting image of big Arlingtons of yore.

Unlike future RFQ cars, the recipe here is exceptionally simple: take an Archprince sedan, equip it with the company’s new double-overdrive transmission (and thus a shorter final drive to match), and throw in the wagon-and-Somervell dual-exhaust 303ci engine. The result is a credible sports sedan that’ll dispense with 62mph in 6.6 seconds and the quarter in 15.The big tires on power-coated bronze alloys are a set of soft compound 255-section rollers, providing sure-footed traction in tandem with the novel limited-slip axle out back.

The muscular Arlington receives faux ground-effect front and rear bumpers, a generous air dam and a stylish heat extractor hood, sacrificing some aerodynamic efficiency for stability and cooling performance worthy of the Autobahn - where this beastie could run at its top speed of 148mph for well over half an hour before exhausting its mighty 26-gallon tank and needing to pull in. Nonetheless, with around a 15.5 mpg combined fuel consumption, it’s not too thirsty for its size, and at $27,000, whatever you spend in fuel you make up at an absolute bargain of a purchase price.

The East German car industry is not dead…. (yet…)

The Burgwart Victoria and the successor Kosmos were, next to the smaller Satellit that was the most-sold peopleΒ΄s car in GDR, the standard in the midsize segment.

The times have changed, and the expectations of the customers rose to western standards in the early 90s. In 1993, after a development time of only 2,5 years, the new Kosmos debuted.

The boxy four-door was replaced with a larger and roomier liftback shape, very practical and flowing with the wind, rounded and elegant.

The car is an affordable, roomy car without too fancy features, being positioned against japanese imports that flood the now free land. The interior might look a bit dated in the details, the short development time was archieved with using proven components from discontinued Primus models, but also parts of current models. ABS, Airbags, electronics - Burgwart offers it all for the new Kosmos.

The top of the line model follows a year later for 1994. The engineers have spent these 12 months well: More advanced engine with high quality components, guaranteering durability for drivers that demand a lot from their vehicle. The GT offers an extra plus on performance compared to the regular 2.4i, and can be distinguished by a larger rear spoiler and a red accent on the bumper strips. And just like the Japanese that we defend ourselves from, the Kosmos GT has no options list - because you get everything included for the competetive MSRP. That is our new understanding of communism and socialism after the wall has fallen.

PRIMUS USA offers the Burgwart on special delivery. Test drive examples might be present in your area. Just call your local Primus-Globus dealer.

Burgwart. The sentinel of your journey.

SAARLAND ORIGO ET-16

Saarland Origo ET-16. German engineering means a 203 hp, 2 litre, turbocharged inline 4. All wheel drive. 6 speed transmission. Anti lock brakes. Drivers side airbag. Alloy wheels. Electric windows. Saarland means that you also can afford it.

THE ORIGO ET-16. A GERMAN SPORTS SEDAN, THAT IS ALSO A SAARLAND.

UPDATE

We have just two cars with rule infractions, both minor. I feel bad giving the bin treatment, but I also want to be fair to those who did not break any rules so I will leave this to a vote.

  • Rule Break = Instabin
  • Inform the creators and give a short window (at most 2 days) for correction resubmission

Or review them anyway, but disqualify from placing.

If its only a really minor thing I tend to be lenient as a host. On the other hand, with this many entrants, I would understand making bins to not lose your sanity about 30 cars to review.

Normally I’d say bin them but there was an update near the end of submissions that did alter some stats. Not by a lot but possibly enough to cause minor infractions.

Creators have been contacted. I will continue working on the analysis of the other cars so I do not predict their resubmission window will delay judging.
