King of the Hill (Round 6)

close. but not enough

I screwed my 65.2 drive build lol. I got greedy looking to match the other stats.

I got something probably very similar to phaleā€™s original build

Send them in guys, Iā€™ve seen at least 5 different builds in here but Iā€™ve only received 2 so far. Iā€™ll give you until 11:59PM EST today, or about 11 hours and 30 minutes from now.

:fearful: waou! Teach us, Sensei!

Heres my final result

Didnā€™t take me too much time to make.

Fuck you guys. Iā€™m not even entering this round

Iā€™m just hoping at least one person who did well in this round are happy to share some of their tips

After verifying the 4 cars I received, Iā€™m happy to announce that @Der_Bayer is the new King of the Hill!

@Der_Bayer chose the same body I chose, and was able to surpass my stats with less expensive parts, so is fully deserving of the victory! Since I originally made my car for my company thread and yours is nearly identical, Iā€™d like to ask that you do not reveal your car yet. I will post my car in my thread when itā€™s ready and then all will be made clear

@rcracer11m was also able to surpass my stats, but only by using +8 quality in fuel system and +3 tires, which was not allowed in the rules. However, I was able to build a car with 65.8 drivability and 30.8 comfort based on your submission while remaining within the rules. The car even came in under budget at $9480, the same as Der_Bayerā€™s. Although Der_Bayerā€™s car was slightly ahead in most stats, this car had nearly twice the mpg, so it may have been enough to steal the win. The main change I made was with the suspension tuning. Softer springs, a higher ride height, more camber, and stiffer rear swaybars made a big difference.

@strop made a valiant effort, but fell short in several areas. The first thing I noticed in your car was that you used standard entertainment, while everyone else got by with a lesser entertainment. This saved cost and added reliability, lessening the need for engine cooling. Your suspension tuning was extremely stiff (relatively speaking) and your tires were wider than necessary. By saving money with basic entertainment and rear drum brakes, I was able to add advanced safety and medium tires while staying under budget. With careful balancing of the tire parameters with the suspension tuning, I was able to get drivability to 61.3 and comfort to 30.7.

@thecarlover also did a good job, but came up a bit short. The main problem was using hydropneumatic suspension, which is extremely expensive and also hurts reliability. Because of this, you werenā€™t able to afford a decent brake setup, so you had lots of fade and not enough braking force. Again, softer suspension tuning would have helped as well.

Well, the next round is up to @Der_Bayer! As you can see the reviews donā€™t have to be super detailed (they are optional) and this challenge seems to attract fewer people than CSR, so reviewing doesnā€™t take too much time. Iā€™m excited to see what you will build

Well thatā€™s definitely one thing I tend to assume too much: disc brakes are always cost effective. But they arenā€™t! Also I do love my fat tyres, but it seemed making them narrrower just hurt the performance in general.

Awesome, I won  I wonā€™t publish the car until you showed yours in your company thread.

A new challenge is in preparation. Historic and racy. Expect something in the evening. :checkered_flag:

expect a roller coaster of emotion coming.

Yeah, Iā€™m terrible with old cars. Iā€™m pretty terrible at getting good numbers in general.

#Payback Time - Le Mans 1964

The year is 1963 and the CEO of Furt Motor Company has approached your small engineering team with an extremely important and urgent request: He just failed at buying out the whole Firrara company, and now it is time for retaliation. Thereā€™s no better alternative than hitting them right at their heart, their ever-ruling racing division. Next year it is time to show them whoā€™s the boss, and the place for that - of course - is Le Mans. Unfortunately, Furt has no department capable of achieving this, so external help is necessary. Can you provide a Le Mans race car able to write history?

Your entry will be judged depending on finishing chance and estimated number of laps in the race.

You have a limited budget you can spend on a number of cars - the car price (market tab @ 0% markup) determines how many cars you can take to the race (max. 8 cars).

Drivability and Car Reliability determine your finishing chances. So try to balance out performance and reliability. If you want to increase your finishing chances with more cars, they have to be cheaper. But will they be fast enough in the first place? You have to make dead sure that you win the race.

The base for your car performance is the lap time on the provided track. Depending on your fuel consumption you will have to pit after some laps (fixed fuel tank size). Each fuel stop takes an estimated 2 minutes. Tyre wear is neglected. The provided spreadsheet does all the work for you. Just put in your values and read the results. You can see the exact formulas used there and you can download the spreadsheet, too.

A minimum safety requirement is set as Furt does not want to kill all the drivers like the other teams do.

Rules

  • Year - 1970 (yes, this is intended, we need some extra tech)
  • Budget: $200,000 ā†’ Market tab @0% * number of cars
  • Engineering Time: 300 in total (engine + car)
  • Minimum safety: 20

Forbidden Parts & Car Bodies

Furtā€™s Spies have gotten their hands on a few blueprints of an early Firrara prototype for next yearā€™s 24h race. Use that as a benchmark for your development:

Please send your car export to me and post screenshots of your lap time and main engine and car stats (Overview) here.

Questions? Please go ahead and ask!

Hahahaha omg best historical challenge premise ever.

Time to attempt a good fuck you to, er, Firrara

Edit: question, given there is a probability of finishing, does simply the number matter, or will there be a roll to determine if the cars actually do finish the race?

that Gran tour story influenceā€¦

Only the number matters. There wonā€™t be an actual race.

What would the race fuel be then?

My car currently has this numberā€¦
0.384
Iā€™ll leave you to wonder what that means

Everything not explicitly mentioned in the rules is completely up to you.
