Wasn’t one. That’s the sole reason why modifying is such a huge scene in Japan.
Actually the sole reason are the insane cost of land ownership, making cars the only way rich japanese people can show off their wealth since nobody can afford an ostentatious home.
Or an euro import exotic like a porsche or a ferrari that states your status a bit more than a souped up civic?
In other words, CARS are the only way the japanese get to show off their wealth, with differing approaches. Some buy euro (as long as it is LHD), others spend millions researching ways to make a car faster and building insanely fast domestic hardware (see Mid Night Club).
Mid Night Club was not about demonstrating your wealth.
Except it was about the “maximum velocity”, something that required immense financial resources to achieve.

I have my own tuning division DragonFang but I wonder what you could do!
Been too busy IRL to focus on tuning. Only have been making quick cars that I’d want to build.
