So I woke up at the ungodly hour of 06:00 on a Sunday (FML) and went down to Valkenswaard just outside Eindhoven today, for this:
That’s the race in Valkenswaard in the world-official-motocross-grand-prix-however-you-call-it. The people from the Discord already have heard me bang on about this, but I’ll run it by you anyway. There’s two classes:
- MX1/MXGP: from 250cc two-strokes to 450cc four-strokes (the latter of which sound frickin awesome by the way)
- MX2 is from 125cc two-strokes to 250cc four-strokes
That’s really it. As it took me like 2 and a half hours to get there I left after race 1 so this is all I could snap. Great fun, actually, even if I don’t keep up with the sport all that much. I’ve added some short descriptions below the images in Imgur.
The riders hail from all over the globe, if I recall correctly there were Slovakians, Finns, Belgians, Dutch, Italians, French, Swiss, Germans, Spanish, British, Slovenian, Japanese, Danish, Latvian, and maybe even a Swede. I’m sure I’ve missed some As for the teams, there are 4 factory teams (Red Bull KTM, Monster Energy Yamaha, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna and one Suzuki team I’m not sure is factory) and the rest are privateers.
Tons of drama. Loooots of drama today. Nothing much happened in quali but in race 1 a guy from 14th charged up the field and got up into the top 10 quickly but fucked up a corner and flew off his bike falling all the way back, still, he managed to clamber back up into 9th by the end of race 1. That was the first yellow flag… within 2 minutes of proper race pace there was a midair collision at the finish line which by far was the biggest jump, likely both riders emerged unscathed and race 1 completed successfully and without further ado. As I said earlier, I wasn’t able to stay for the rest but from what I’ve read there were some surprises at the end and no one got badly hurt. Good day, I’d say.
