Nineties Econobox Challenge. *revisions and reviewing*

Same platform, that really curvy 3 door hatch, and no limited production of anything  The engine weighs well under 100 kg, so it’s not too hard to make the car weigh so little with lightweight materials and slightly lowered quality sliders in the areas that pack on the most weight. The engine was designed entirely for fuel economy, not performance, but it works well enough for such a lightweight budget economy car.

Probably my transmission is also a fair bit heavier too, what with having a) 5 cogs b) something like 170Nm to deal with.

Yeah, mine’s a 4 speed, and there’s a lot less torque for it to handle. Emphasis on “a lot.”

5 speed and limited slip because I still have wheel spin.

Well that was tougher than I predicted… but here it is

Smooth Econ BlueLine

One tone of pure joy…yeah about that…It’s got 69HP (riiiight). Buuuuuuut it’s got alloys, 5 speed gearbox and standard 5 seats. Yeah. Eat that. And power steering, ABS with front disks, cassette player and plain (soon to be old and plenty rusty) steal all around. For 11340€€€

HIGH 5. -11 on the panel = 850kgs HUAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
I got 635KG with a -9 on panels. I think I’ll win the lightweight award, but I only seat 2 :frowning:
If my car rusts and has holes in it, it’ll get even lighter = more speed bruh :stuck_out_tongue:

Also the extra weight in my car mainly comes from the engine. Also I haven’t even told anybody about the LSD I snuck in there >_>
apparently, i just had to change my car up a little because it clearly was way to heavy for an entry level car.

edit: and here we are!

Mmmhh… I don’t really know what to expect… rules are not very clear in the evaluation side… I’ve taken the Eco version on the Zap.

Little update, work has been pretty demanding this week so I have not had a chance to go through the entries yet. That said I will be ending submissions at the stated time still, but I will allow a few more days following the deadline to review and take revisions of entries that did not meet the rules or that had loading issues. The results and writeup will follow at some point after that.

Okay I’m a little late but entries are now closed, I will be reviewing the cars when I can, results will follow.

Very good, now I eagerly look forward to finding out what the reviewer thinks when they discover their ‘base level’ entry is actually faster than a GTi…

I might have wandered into the dark side of mid-engined economy cars with this one…
Anyways, it’s called the Lizzott Fiery. Contrary to what the name says, this car is Totally Not A Fiery Death Trap.
It also does very well at seating three people uncomfortably.

“Never go full fiero”

now the question is which GTI? i am actually nearly matching the 80s golf II GTI in engine size with my I4 turbo. speedwise it should be more in the range of a MkIII.

I reckon Birdie GTi ought to outrun a Mk3 GTi… though it may lose a couple of doors in the process

just for reference (only manual transmissions, well, and FWD):

Mk II: ultimatespecs.com/car-specs/ … I-16v.html
Mk III: ultimatespecs.com/car-specs/ … I-16v.html
Mk IV: ultimatespecs.com/car-specs/ … T-180.html
Mk VI: ultimatespecs.com/car-specs/ … 210HP.html
Mk VII: ultimatespecs.com/car-specs/ … sport.html

it turns out mine actually seems to be closest to the Mk IV in many ways.

Thanks to having as much power and much less weight my car would slay the Mk.IV at the lights, if that spec sheet is anything to go by.

I reiterate, it does so at the high expense of panel build quality and interior trimmings!

Okay OP is updated with accepted entries and and those still pending. this got a lot bigger than i was expecting, I’m glad you all got a kick out of making cheap beaters but the results and write up will take longer than I thought based on the number of entries, sorry for the delay.

what about the extra ‘for fun purposes only’ cars?

nialloftara, it seems my entry is missing.

Mine too.
