Non-premium brands that have similar 'build quality' to VW?

For whatever it’s worth, I just drove a 3 000 km Astra hatch on local country roads and it almost rattled more than my 110 000 km 2007 Honda Civic (in fact, it rattled more on smooth asphalt than the Civic does). The dashboard might be soft touch plastic, but it isn’t particularly tightly attached.

Edit: further tests give me this impression in terms of tight fitment and robust feel:

Astra (Poland) < Corolla (Thailand) < Mazda3 (Thailand) < Golf (Germany)

I didn’t drive it, but Hyundai i30 feels like it would slot below the Golf.

The new I30 has an awesome interior.

IMO, the Golf is a very overrated car.
