I really like this episode, thanks a lot for it!
S03E08: Maximum Velocity
Nobody dies in this episode, should not be harmful.
Sarah Maier is stressed: She has to go to the vet, since her dog, an elder ex-police dog, is sick, but as always, Sarah is broke.
Frank, really. I wouldn´t ask you if it was urgent.
And Klaus? You call me only when you want something, but other than that, you tell me how great Klaus is.
Frank, please! Klaus is on an undercover job and back the day after tomorrow. Can I count on you?
Sure… just give me the adress of the vet…
On her way, Sarah encouters a dangerously driving Primus coupé, and barely avoids it, but is too concerned about her dog to bother with it.
Soon after, the speeding car runs a red light - and crashes into a van. While the modern car protected the occupants well, a side impact on the older van model jammed the driver in it, who is unconscious.
Oh SHIT! Is he…. dead?
No, I see breathing activity. Carsten, grab the key! And then we run to the next phone box and call the ambulance. HURRY, THERE COMES A CAR!
Sarah is the first to arrive at the scene, and manages to get the driver out, who is thankfully not as seriously injured as it first appeared.
Frank is the next to appear, following Sarah on the way to the veterinarian.
What is this? Sarah, you really attract bad luck.
Can you call an ambulance? I forgot my mobile phone.
The next day, Kriminalrat Bernd Schneider awaits Sarah in his office.
What is it, boss?
Good job yesterday, doing first aid. You propably saved the driver by pulling him out and putting him into a stable position, ensuring he can breathe. Anyway… an ambulance has been called from a phonebox nearby. The voice of the caller was very young. I assume it was the crash driver.
That series of teens crashing cars is really worrying, yes.
So is your history of undercover jobs. Against the Neo-Nazis, you did it by yourself without notifying your superior officer, and you were almost killed if Sordel and Batimus had not been so fast. If I offer you an undercover investigation, you MUST promise me to follow my orders and do no one-woman-shows.
Undercover? Where?
At school. In the crashed Primus from last night we found items that seem to lead to the Otto-Reuter-Oberschule. And you are the only person they could possibly trust. Frank is just suiting as the stereotypical teacher that everyone hates, and Harry… is credible only as janitor. You on the other hand are.. 23. I mean, you could pass as 18 or 19, and look like you would usually run away from the police force instead of being part of it.
Boss, I always hated school, really…
AND YOUR REPORTS SHOW THAT! How about finally learning proper Hetvesian in written at this opportunity? I am tired of correcting your awful grammar and ortography, FOR FUCKS SAKE!
The next day, Sarah, with a direct order from Berlaus senator of interior, being the supervisor for both the schools and the police, discusses with the principal.
What did this take so long?
I called your department, until a Kriminalrat Schneider confirmed that you are indeed a police officer. Congratulations, your cover is excellent. How long did it take you to be this credible?
What do you mean, I am always like that.
WHAT? AND SUCH PEOPLE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PUBLIC ORDER?
And such phillistines like you are still responsible to educate children? Anyway, where is my classroom and timetable for tomorrow?
The next morning, Sarah cuts off the principal when arriving at the school, and also crashes through the barrier, parking her car prominently on the teachers parking lot - while the studens cheer for her after watching that scene, the principal is… not amused. Especially because it is his own parking spot which is now blocked by Sarahs car.
But, it worked, since a girl approaches Sarah at the lunch break.
Now that was impressive this morning! I wish I had a car to do that. I have not seen you before.
Ha! That dumbass, really deserved it. Well, I was kicked out from my school for… bad behaiviour. I guess, my career here isn´t lasting much longer, too.
It would be sad, I really like people like you that are not… so adapted like everyone else in Hetvesia. I am Marla, btw. And I would really like to have a ride with you later!
In the meantime, Dr. Günter Bess picks up his new car, a Primus Ares Turbo R.
I hope it can keep up with the Zephorus I used to drive.
Biturbo V6, AWD system, electronic assisted suspension, dual airbags - this car is still state of the art! I wish you all the best with your new Primus!
After school, Sarah drives Marla home.
Thanks for the ride! I hope I wasn´t too demanding, it´s just that….
Well, Marla, I know how you feel. See you tomorrow.
The next day, Sarah notices that Marla did not show up in class - meanwhile, she stands with two boys at a company parking lot.
Carsten, over there. We have to steal them at daylight because they have a high security level garage where the cars are parked at night, but here is not even video surveillance because the works council hates cameras.
Hey Matze, I want to drive the Imperator!
Marla, driving is nothing for girls! Carsten, you take the Merit, I take the Imperator.
The Imperator has an infrared garage door opener - working with pre-programmed codes, and one of them is for the employee parking sensor - so it took a few minutes until the theft was noticed.
Mamba to all units, two cars stolen from the Miesens AG in the Robert-Schob-Straße, a green Imperator, registration Berlau-Gustav-Wilhelm-1111 and a lilac Merit, registration Berlau-Bertha-Martha-3631.
Mamba for Mamba 10-31, I lost the suspect at Opernplatz. And we need a towtruck and a traffic accident unit…
Mamba 10-44 to all units! A food truck is blocking our way
Mamba 12-3 to all units. The Merit just passed me on Turmstraße. Entering pursuit!
Mamba for Mamba 12-1, I have visual contact with the Imperator. Currently heading west on Elisenstraße.
Kurwa, they are too fast. I think I can take an abbreviation to cut them off!
Walkowski, NO!
Do you want them to escape? Those morons from the city district can´t even drive a pedal car properly!
MAMBA 12-3 FOR MAMBA 10! YOU ARE STILL ON THE MAIN FREQUENCY, WE HEARD THAT!
TAKIE BZDURY! I THINK I MISSED THE MARK BY A FEW SECONDS! AAAAAARGH!
Mamba 12-3 to all units… suspect has been stopped. Driver escaped on foot, in the chaos I had no chance to see where.
Walkowski, what do you mean with CHAOS?
You sure you want to know?
…. sigh….. I NEED A ROADBLOCK FOR THE IMPERATOR!
Hmmm, Roadblock… Hey boss, you get your roadblock. Where do you want it?
At the intersection Chausseestraße and Wilhelmstraße.
EVERYONE OUT OF THE BUS! THIS IS A POLICE OPERATION! HARALD WALKOWSI, KRIPO AUTOBAHN, HERE IS MY BADGE! OUT NOW!
I am at the location in a minute. Boss, where are you?
There any minute! Hurry up!
MATZE, A ROADBLOCK! It´s all over now.
You remember the Imperator V12 ad: “As if you fly?”
WALKOWSI! OUT OF THE BUS! HE WILL NOT STOP! RUN!
TO NIE MOZE BYC PRAWDA, IDIOCIIIII!!!
Bernd Schneider did not want to risk Walkowsi being struck by a flying car and made an emergency stop, ending up being stuck on the debris of the construction site.
Walkowski, I SAID ROADBLOCK! Now look at this disaster.
Yes, and you also said “Imperator”, and not “plane”.
A bit later, in a quarry:
You know that we must total each car. That´s a damn expensive machine, it wouldn´t be scrapped as of now. But don´t worry: I have done this a dozen times before, I will jump out in time!
At the same time, in the police office:
Frank, please tell me you have good news.
I checked the statistics. Three quarters of the joyrides were with a Primus. And each of them was sold by the dealer Waldemar Piontek. It can be a coincidence, but it is definitely something I should check. Sarah has called, she suspects a girl named Marla Beyer, and her friends Matthias Vosswinkel and Carsten Fischer also were not in class, unapologized by their parents. I will drive to Piontek and then to the school.
You have to admit, this is definitely suspicious, Mr. Piontek.
I can only explain it with the extreme popularity of our cars! And that is just understandable. In our cars is a philosophy, the perfect machine! Primus, the first choice, as the slogan says! And that… seems to count for joyriders, too.
M-hm. That was it for now, I might come back later. Please stay available for further questions.
A bit later, Frank interrogates the class teacher of Marla, Matthias and Carsten.
You do not seem surprised.
Not at all. Matthias parents are self employed and care about their business more than about their only child. He is intelligent, calm and charismatic, but lacks morale. Carsten is an outcast, low self-esteem, loyal to Matthias, as he has no friends. Marla… sensitive, angry, and vulnerable since her father was imprisoned for insurance fraud, ruining the family.
I see. Maybe our undercover inspector can get through to Marla, they are both having similar issues.
The next day, the three teens discuss.
Believe me, Sarah is cool.
Why?
I don´t know… she is courageous.
Well, that has to be proven, Marla.
I know how to find out. If she passes, she is in, ok?
After school, Sarah drives with Marla to a spot she used to be very often.
I used to hang out here when my mother was drunk. Which was… a lot of times. And my father let me steer his patrol car when I was sitting on his lap, on exactly this huge parking lot. He was a cop, you know? Propably he would be disappointed from me today.
No way! You are a good person. Propably better than me. I dont care about my fathers opinion, he is a dumbass. May I ask you a question?
What is it about?
Would you let me drive your car? My friends say it´s nothing for girls, but I can´t live without the sense of speed and danger.
Now you are asking something from me…. all right, but not here, where we have possible withnesses. I`ll show you some lonely forest road nearby. Get in!
And please, Marla. I don´t want us to die. OK??
Trust me, Sarah.
I know you for three days, and put my life in your hands - if that is not trust….
But Marla speeds even worse than Sarah would have thought… and not even Sarah yelling at her would make her stop.
I SAID STOP IT!
And I said “trust me”. We are totally fine!
AND WHAT IS THAT? DEAR GOD, YOU KILL THEM!
With a 180-degree handbrake turn, Sarahs car barely avoids the crash, and speeds off fast before anybody could write down the plate number.
You know what? I`ll invite you to my friends meeting this evening! All you need is… a fast car. And I mean, really fast! And it should not be yours, if you get what I mean.
When and where?
In the early evening, Sarah meets with Frank and Harry at the department.
Yes, it is very likely that those three are the joyriders. I meet them at the exhibition center in two hours.
All right, so we will be there to arrest them. They propably come in a stolen car already and the case is waterproof.
No, Frank. The role of Piontek is still unclear.
My interrogation methods will put some light in the dark.
Frank, they are children!
Sarah, Frank is right. They might be children, but still are a danger to the public.
Ok, ok, I call you when the situation allows for an arrest, fine?
Sarah picks up Marla from home and drives to the meeting point.
And now?
We wait for Matze and Carsten. Matze thinks he is the super boss here, I can´t show him that he is a jerk as he won´t let me drive, but you can! He can´t even steal a car, that is all Carstens talent. And since we were told to not get a Primus that often for the next days, they have to break into their ride for tonight.
So… you do not have to…. break into Primus?
No, we don´t.
Half an hour later, Matthias Vosswinkel and Carsten Fischer arrive in a Saarland Origio.
Damn, a Zephorus 305! The cheapest V8 performance car. Rock hard suspension, tons of power… in an outdated sedan. Good that we have the Origio Turbo. All right Sarah, you are challenging me? Let´s go! A full lap to town hall and back!
Both cars speed off, with Sarah staying behind Matthias to watch where he goes.
Good that the police radio is hidden in the glovebox, so Marla didn´t notice… Mamba 12-3 to Mamba 12, evidence collected, the suspect Matthias Vosswinkel is currently speeding to town hall, coming from the exhibition center. Pass that foward to the city patrol, they should stop both of us to not blow my cover yet.
Sarah now makes an attempt to overtake Matthias, who, being aware that the Zephorus is faster, causes an accident and makes a van spin and lose its load.
Sarah has no chance to evade the barrels, and her Zephorus spins as well and crashes into a lamppost.
AAARGH SHIT!
FREEZE! BERLAU CITY PATROL, YOU ARE ARRESTED!
Let me show you my badge… let me guess, the Saarland escaped?
In the evening, Sarah calls Klaus.
And… you promise to be back tomorrow?
Yes. I have revealed all evidence and the colleagues will perform the arrest.
Is it normal…. that you lie to the people, even if you like them? Is it happening to you as well, that you feel sympathy for someone you know you will arrest?
Sarah, how do you get to that now? Anyway, no. I do not act as Klaus Kasupke. My own feelings and opinion count before and after the job, not during it. So, I refuse to like or hate anybody. I do my business, not more and not less.
The next day, in the early afternoon, the three teenagers meet at a lawyers office.
The yellow Ares is his. And we should pick another fancy car of another brand. Which do we take?
The TIO! What else? It´s a V12, what a nice ride!
Ok, Carsten, do it quick! I take the Ares with Marla.
ALL UNITS. REPORTED STOLEN ARE A TWO SPORTS CARS. A YELLOW PRIMUS AND A DARK BLUE TIO, REGISTRATIONS ARE…
Mamba 12-6 to Mamba, THEY JUST PASSED ME! ENTERING PURSUIT!
Mamba for 12-6, THEY SEPERATE WAYS.
12-6 for 12-1, this is Schneider. Stay behind the Tio, I take the other car, for a special reason.
Indeed, Matthias drives the Ares, and drops off Marla.
What do you mean, too dangerous?
This is just not for girls, you know? Better run now unnoticed and let me handle the rest here.
Mamba for 12-3, we are on our way, now on Sophienstraße. Brat, where are you?
Industrial area north! Hurry up, Uwe is almost losing them.
HEY FRANK! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
Secret! If that works, I want a patent on it as the “Batimus maneuver”.
Mamba for 12-6, now entering Dieselstraße.
HARRY, PUT THE BEACON DOWN! We hide behind this truck until they arrive. Give me the radio! LISTEN, THIS IS FRANK! TELL ME EXACTLY WHEN THE TIO IS ABOUT TO PASS THE ONCOMING TRUCK! WE HAVE ONLY ONE CHANCE!
NOW, FRANK!
ALL RIGHT! SWANSON SURPRISE!
SHIT! He was supposed to spin, or stop, not to crash. Harry, call an ambulance!
Relax, Frank. He got out on his own. Nothing serious.
Meanwhile, Bernd Schneider found the yellow Ares and is determined to stop it.
MAMBA FOR MAMBA 12-1! The suspect in the yellow Primus enters the A11 inner city ring!
A furious Bernd Schneider now tries it with force.
YOU WILL NOT EMBARRASS ME TWICE! NOW YOU ARE DUE, BOY!
GIVE UP! UNCLE BERNIE ARRESTS YOU THIS TIME!
Oh, some gravel piled up to make an improvised ramp? BAD LUCK, BOY, THIS TIME I AM NOT STOPPING!
Matthias swerves to the right, braking hard, while sending the irritated Schneider, keeping the right foot down, high up in the air - the Swanson even flies high enough to land on the railway bridge - from where a furious Schneider watches the yellow sports car roaring to the horizon.
Soon after, the stolen Primus is sunk in a quarry lake, leaving behind no evidence.
Frank has no luck getting information from Carsten.
Your silence is pointless. We know that it´s you, Marla and Matthias. My partner also checked the lock of the Merit we were able to find had no sabotaged ignition, and the door locks only manipulated to look like someone broke in. We call a technican to check for all the wrecks we got. You are not dumb, you know physics, metal does not burn. We will find out if all Primus were just “faked” to be stolen, like the black Merit coupé.
Can you call me a lawyer? It´s my right.
I can. But believe me, I know how it is to be an outsider. And how you want to be part of a group. But, they are not your friends if they drag you into this kind of shit.
YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT MARLA!
Now I understand. You like her, but she sticks around with the popular-rich-parents-Matthias. You would do her a favour and get her out of his influence by telling us what we need to know.
Can you please call the lawyer now?
In the night:
So, Marla called me that you want to speak to me. I am not too interessed into a conversation after you made me crash on purpose. That was really a shit move, Matthias.
Hey Sarah, the cars were stolen anyway, right? And the owners were insured. So what´s the big deal?… Anyway, Carsten got caught, and Marla told me you might be a good car thief?
Could be.
I will steal a Primus tomorrow night, and it is important that you steal a car from another brand. And then, you will get your revance. Only clean driving this time. Deal?
The next morning:
So I had a two week job with high-rolling criminals, yet I seem to be more relaxed than you. What is wrong, Sarah?
Eeeeh.. I need your car.
But yours seem to work fine, I mean, you arrived here with it?
Yes, but….
Ok, I go upstairs and get the keys for the Sinesia.
Klaus… I mean your… blue one. I really need it for a day. Not longer, I promise.
But…that is state property!
Yes, and I am a state employee… I will tell you everything tomorrow, come on!
BUT BE CAREFUL! SARAH, CAREFUL! AAAAAAARGH, MY BELOVED SABERIN!
A few hours later, nearby Sarahs apartment, she is waiting at a kiosk, drinking energy drinks and smoking a few cigarettes, giving Frank an update.
Schneider is not too pleased about the wrecked Zephorus. But… you know what, he can´t call you out because he lost a chase against Vosswinkel AGAIN and damaged his car as well. The salvage from that bridge was… spectacular.
What? That newspaper title photo was Schneider? Nice. Matthias Vosswinkel and me meet this evening at Kaiserufer, possibly at 9:30 PM. I want you to be ready with many units, but be unsuspicious. I am picking up Marla now, I will make sure she is in my car if Matthias makes a wild and dangerous escape, so that she is safe.
Sure thing…. eh, isn´t that Kasupkes car?
PLEASE DON´T ASK!
At 3:30 PM, Sarah picks up Marla.
Sarah? I thought you forgot about me. Where have you been all day?
Getting a ride for this evening. How about this thing here?
Let´s see what music is in the cassette drive… weird, pays for the fast engine but no CD radio… BAAAAH, CLASSIC OPERAS! From what kind of weirdo did you steal that car?
You don´t want to know…
At 9:30 PM Sarah speeds to the meeting point, with Matthias already waiting there.
Hey Marla, so you prefer going with a girl you know for not even a week over getting a car with me?
Are you jealous? For real?
REMEMBER WHO IT WAS WHO GAVE YOU THE COINS WHEN YOU WERE STARVING BECAUSE YOUR MOTHER COULD NOT GIVE YOU MONEY FOR SCHOOL LUNCH!
You are so pathetic, Matze, really.
Since the two were loudly arguing outside, Sarah was able to make a call to Frank.
He showed up, in a stolen Primus. We start now, and it is very likely that we drive on the A11.
Hey Matthias, how about a challenge: The winner of the race drives Marla home. We take the ramp to the A11, leave at Wilhelmplatz and make a detour to here, and then we sink the cars.
Deal!
The trap worked - not only were Uwe Holtmann and Jakob Walkowski behind them, Bernd Schneider and Harald Walkowski also blocked the road in front of them - Vosswinkel is trapped.
Later that night, at the police office:
You traitor bitch!
Marla, I…
Sarah, I really liked you. I had no idea you would be such a backstabbing liar. If you liked me too, why did you arrest me?
It would not have ended well if I didn´t.
And how is my mother supposed to afford a lawyer?
My partner, Oberkommissar Batimus, studied law. He already called his former professor to defend you for free, and we will find a good solution for Carsten as well. But I need answers now first.
Bert Unger, the weed dealer in the school, told me that there is a well paid and fun activity - crashing expensive cars, we would even get the keys. I did it for the money, to help my mother paying the debts, and for the thrill, the speed makes me forget everything… and Matze did it out of boredom. When the insurance companies wondered about the cars always being Primus, Unger hired Carsten, knowing he is a good thief, his father is a locksmith after all…
Thanks… should I drive you home now?
I would prefer walking in a snowstorm over being chauffeured by a traitor! I was wrong, your father should be ashamed for you.
A few minutes later, Sarah withdrew to the staircase, where she could drop a few tears unnoticed.. until Harry had a fight with the coffee vending machine, kicking it in and cursing about the mess, getting towels from upstairs.
OH KURWA! KUPA ZLOMU! Damn! Oh Sarah, what are you doing here?
Harry, am I really a traitor?
You would have been a traitor to your badge if you let her go. And, you stopped her before she could kill herself in a crash. And, you know, I was kind of a bad boy too. It took me more than 17 years to grow up and get the right perspective. Marla will go the same way. She will see that you did the best you could, just maybe not today.
Bert Unger confesses the next day, after being arrested, and Bernd Schneider offers a deal for reduced weed trading charges if he told who his boss is - and it is indeed Waldemar Piontek. He had the kids hired to sell more cars, since the insurance always pays… and customers with expensive cars were especially cared for, making them buy again at Piontek because of the good serivce.
The arrest warrant was there in no time, and Waldemar Piontek was arrested the same afternoon.

Important Notice
Due to a total ban of AI of the forums, I have to announce that this series is cancelled.
With the current means of photoscene props, AI can´t be substituted. Of course, in the early beginnings it worked without, but everything was totally superficial and not even closely as deep and developed than it became over the years. We did fine without AI for many years, but doing something that the game was never intended to be used for required me to go much further than the game itself offered me to.
I do not have good feelings about axing something that entertained many members over the years, and was a good showcase for your creations, but it is how it is.
This is not the right place to debate if this drastic policy is correct or not. The community manager has announced a post about this that has yet to follow, and this would be the correct space to discuss, not here.
Still, I felt a profound “goodbye” to those that supported my work was owed to them. I enjoyed using this game for something totally different, pushing limits away (as creating own HDRI photoscenes to create the feeling of really being in Berlau), and giving your high quality creations a few scratches and dents.
If you can find a way to continue the series elsewhere (not Discourse or Discord), then go ahead. Still, it was fun while it lasted.
