Pikes Peak Automation Hill Climb 2015 [RESULTS]

Yay! Not “dead” last in either category! And the Frankenmonster survived the climb!

Thanks for the fun, strop!

How in the world did “Elvis” not come stone dead last…? Did the Maverick lose a tire on the way up? confused Great race Strop!!! Hope to see more in the future such as this. Question though, can you “reverse” the track and make a downhill run as well? How would the times change then?

I regret nothing! Most of my cars came last (or really close to it) but, for me, the results were less important than the sheer volume of fun I had building these cars.

Don’t get me wrong, I was just as excited as everyone else to see my results, but I found the roleplay element of tuning my base S12 for every category an intoxicating one! :sunglasses:

Same here, I couldnt help but laugh as I pictured a fully loaded mid '70s Caddy lumbering up Pikes Peak so I decided to make that, had a ton of fun doing it and trying to make it not overpowered. I just wish I had had more time in the run-up to this race so I could have made another car or two :frowning:

Fair enough for a road legal Znopresk.

Thank you for hosting the challenge and for the nice writing.

oooh 3rd in heavy class and 7th in the Unlimited class, not too bad. Gratz to winners,

Wow LeSpass and luilakkie in a class of their own. 12 seconds in a world where 1/10s matter is quite astounding. I am actually happy that they are so far ahead. For so it does not matter that I had prepared my cars in a rush (just 1 day before deadline) and it later turned out I could have gone ca 3 seconds faster. I could break 9:00 minutes but it would not have changed much. If you want a hint how to get the ultimate performance, LeSpass and luilakkie are they cars to study.

Also kudos to strop and BlastersPewPew for staging a competition that feels like we actually accomplished something.

Where the S12 was lighter, it also ran pretty much road standard tyres and was well under budget. HighOctaneLove’s cars actually are what I’d consider a good real life representation of the various classes (except unlimited).

This track attempted to favour turbos over NA, but with the way the game currently calculates things, if the road has anything more than a 0 sportiness, it’ll penalise the turbo. This will change when we rework the calculations over the next, I dunno, month or so. At that point I’ll probably rework the track!

At this stage therefore, the track did not give a rat’s ass about tameness. Driving aids therefore made no effect whatsoever, which annoyed me. By corollary, most of the fastest cars had in excess of 100 sportiness and a tameness of less than 20. Most of them had 0. Bottoming out? No problem! Wheelspin of 20%? It’s all good!

After several minutes of tinkering, I did create a solution that was a few tenths faster than LeSpass, but I can confirm that this is pretty close to the limits as we know it for now, so great job!

So you you suggest to leave sportiness at 0 for all corners? I am currently reworking my Avus track, and I like the way Pikes Peak gives Turbos a chance.

I wouldn’t worry about it, hopefully when we get around to properly fixing all the calculations, this won’t be as much of a consideration.

While none of my cars was particularly strong in its own class, i’m quite happy to have built the 6th fastest car of them all. Especially because my fastest car was faster than Strop’s fastest car :stuck_out_tongue: I know you have faster cars, but it’s still a success for me personally, so just leave me alone and let me enjoy my triumph. PS: I have faster cars, too.

Considering that my faster ‘car’ was actually a 2 ton truck, you could say that it was a good thing your car was faster than that :stuck_out_tongue:

Although that said it was an unholy fast truck, so that is not really saying much hehe

Well, it was a 2 ton truck… with over 3000hp.
And i actually thought the Mercury would be faster, but then again it’s not easy to put down 2000+hp/tonne.

Yeah, I thought people might have expected Mercury to be faster! It was tuned purely to get a sub 7 minute time around Nordschleife, which was difficult enough as it was. I didn’t make any changes whatsoever for Pikes Peak, so it might have been a bit faster… but the power curve is actually terrible and really not suitable for accelerating out of corners any slower than about 90km/h. It actually goes faster from 100-200 than 0-100. And definitely does 150-250 in less than a Regera, and that’s with having to change a gear.

Congrats to the winners, and thanks to Strop and BlasterPewPew for the event with that great presentation (I had a good laugh with “just ignore all the thumpy, cluncky, knocky sounds from the engine, everything is juuuust fine” in Speedline’s card -reliability was 0.1-).

Now back to the Steam thing

7th, 8th, and 9th. I sense a pattern here.

Unnamed cars with some cooling, lights and spoilers slapped on ftw! :sunglasses:

With the latest update, it would be interesting to see the laptimes that can be achieved, now that more suspension and differential options are available.

Problem is you would have to recreate every car from scratch again, that would probably be impossible since some calculations changed and you can not port over the old cars to the new version.

It´s true that unless you read all the data from the lua file, the car is mostly gone forever. Nevertheless, is always possible to try make it close as it was. In my case, I am still trying to figure it out what the hell I´ve put in my unlimited entry.
