Type-S 1966
In 1960, Python Motors began working on their first car, the Type-S; A lightweight sports car with a small DOHC 1.0L inline 6 engine making 102hp at 8,100rpm with a 9,000rpm redline, aluminium heads and triple weber carbs paired to a 4-speed manual gearbox. The Type-S was an extreme featherweight at only 749kg, giving it an impressive top speed of 146mph, and 0-62mph in 8.82s. It may have been underpowered with the competition, but the weight helped make it a pure driver’s car with only sports and racing in mind. In 1967 with the success of the car, a targa top model was produced.
It came with a choice of 2 colours originally in 1966: Sunburst & Hokkaido Snow. With the introduction of the targa model in 1967, Burning Red was offered.
Later in 1976, a one-off colour was produced called Crisp Orange specifically for the final few end of production Type-S models.
Type-S 1972
Later in 1972, the Type-S got revised further, now with mechanical fuel injection, alloy wheels, semi-clad undertray and gas-mono tube suspension. The power of mechanical fuel injection made it more cost-effective as well as better economically and performance wise, with a 7hp boost helping cut 0-62mph down to 7.99s and a 149mph top speed.
In 1976, it further got updated with new colours, a boost to performance, fully clad undertray and sportier 15 inch magnesium alloy wheels. It was now able to hit 155mph, and 0-62mph of 7.86s. Additional colours and blacked out wheels were optional for the final Type-S of this generation.
