Airbag equipped steering wheel? Only the full-sized Chevrolet had airbags in 1975 and only as an option available to government buyers.

Nah, could be had as a regular option in full size Oldsmobiles, Buick and Cadillacs top (not Chevrolet or Pontiac as an option available to the public), but yes, rare option indeed.

I dont know why, but the tyre sizes on the poster are always shown differently than in the wheel section when designing the car.

These are the tyres fitted and the poster gives different dimensions. Thats weird.

Hey that’s what the Automation tool tip said. Tiny car, so I had to go big on safety to get what is still probably a low stat. So I guess Oran had them too back then  From what I could find there were already laws in place regarding airbags in '74, so it must have at least been commercially available, even if rare.

What I’m currently tinkering away at, just not sure if it’s 70’s enough…

With +5 TP, Advanced 80s safety is maybe available in 1975, which includes an airbag. There were no laws in 1975, just proposed ones but the technology was far from matured until the early 80s when the Mercedes S-class got them, so they were put on hold…

1975 Mayster Triumf S3 2.0 Coupe

The third and final facelift of the sole product of Archanan boutique sports car manufacturer Mayster came out in 1974 and consisted of modest upgrades over the Series 2.

The core was unchanged since the Triumf’s debut in the late 1950s: a lightweight fibreglass sportscar weighing under 700 kg, powered first by a 1.6 and later a 2.0 litre OHV B4 engine once emissions regulations came into play.

The kings may have been dethroned, but the squire fights on.

When it was introduced in 1967, the VME Sparrow 220 Sportline, with its focus on affordable, economical fun, was never meant to compete with the V8 muscle cars of the time. Now that we’re reintroducing it to America for 1975, we’re still not going to pretend that it can take on the Mustang…

…because pretending is no longer necessary.

Here at VME, the competition deciding it no longer wishes to… well… compete is no excuse to rest on our laurels. When the Camaro and Mustang lost hundreds of horsepower, the Sparrow Sportline lost only four - along with its taste for leaded fuel and its loud drone at highway speeds.

Our newly emissions-compliant Flow-Ratio 2.2-litre inline-four engine is one of the most advanced in the industry, taking advantage of high-draft dual overhead cam technology and twin SU economy carburetors to produce a full 137 horsepower. Even on paper, that’s only five fewer than the top V8 Mustang. And in practice, the lighter, sportier car it sits in will dominate most contemporary “muscle cars” off the line and around the corners alike, including all '75 Mustangs. With a five-speed manual gearbox, radial sport tyres and limited slip differential, the Sparrow sprints to 62 in 8.2 seconds and tops out at 124 miles an hour.

What sorts of sacrifices do you have to make to get this kind of performance for the low price of $10,500? Well… none, really. The Sparrow achieves over 20 miles per gallon combined, comes with a high-quality interior and 8-track player as standard, and for a limited time only, can be had in a two or three-tone paintjob for no extra charge. Schedule a test drive today at your local VME retailer and you’ll see why it’s Time to Rethink the Import™ once again.

American style doesn’t have to come with American handling… or American fuel economy.

With four-wheel independent suspension and disc brakes, and a peppy yet efficient 1.8 liter engine, the Acclima Spira combines stylish American-inspired looks with quality Japanese engineering to create the best of both worlds.

Don’t settle for a fuel-hungry emissions-choked V8 and truck suspension in your “sports car”. Instead, enjoy your fuel savings with the Spira’s 9.5-to-1 compression and breathe easy with its smog-eliminating catalytic converter.

The Acclima Spira. Yours now for less than AM$12000.

Hey does anyone want to collab? I have the engineering all done!

After the rule changes, the Tempesta also features some differences.

It is now a full US spec model instead of some refitted sidemarkers, including:

  • Converter, even if the car managed WES5 before.
  • different rear suspension, since US buyers spend more budget on their cars, they will welcome a more advanced chassis on a sporty car. The rear suspension of the US model will be used in the 1976 Aquila, a slightly larger and more premium variant of the Tempesta for the EU market.
  • better tires
  • ugly sealed beam conversion (tried to make the looks accurate to what abuse was done with real life 70s italian import cars)
