Bins
Unfortunately we still got some bins :((( come on guys.

@Bocieg - Eagl ExC

Unfortunately overshot the techpool by 2.6M lol. The design itself was quite cool tbh, it has a minimalistic modern design with a nicely smoked tail light bar and nice lower rear bumper detailing. The satin color also looks very premium and the front headlight looks really nice, along with the accented grille. I think this would be above average design-wise in the field so it’s really unfortunate.

@Er_Foxone - NOVO Zion

Unfortunate but it’s ummmm 10,100 lol, so $100 over budget. Such a small amount tbh so I feel bad lol but still. Design wise, it looks great, love the plain white paint with the blacked out roof. The proportions are great and practical. Rear is clean and has a nice tail light design. At the front, the headlights seem a little too big and too low. The front bonnet also seems to swoop downwards quite a lot, looks slightly awkward lol.

@mrqwer4 - WMI - Sylvester

This one absolutely blew past the budget and stands at… $24,400. lol Unlike the top one, I don’t feel bad for binning this oops. And like, you used the techpool too, so not sure. You used Advanced 20s safety though so perhaps that was the issue but idk. Otherwise, the design is just okay tbh, I don’t quite like the green color scheme as it’s very bright and in-your-face. The car looks sort of old school as well with the boxy design, and the extremely white plain visor looking sunglasses headlight bar is a bit weird, along with the lower fascia grille thing. The sides are plain, and the rear also has weirdly detailed tail lights that don’t fit the rest of the design.

@Happyhungryhippo - Yamaguchi K6 B1000

Ah damn, WES9 instead of WES10. I figured WES10 should be like super easy to do since it’s a tiny engine and I see you already got emissions optimization at 6 so I honestly wasn’t sure how. But I tried clicking emissions optimization to 7 and it works and reached WES10 so hopefully next time this is done and checked beforehand lol. Design-wise, it’s… a super super basic boxy Kei car lol. Not a bad thing per se, but it’s just executed in an okay manner. Side seems a little too bare, the front is very boxy but also really flat and not really interesting, as are the rears. Actually the rear tail lights seem to be covered in a very dark gray cloudy plastic that is super hard to see through which doesn’t look really good I think - it’s not even red so the rears are just blue, grey, and black.

@Rise_Comics - Pittsburgh Siletto LX

Unfortunately this car scored really badly on most measures in engineering. It has the highest fuel economy at 7.7L/100km, which I guess is not surprising considering it has (one) of the largest engines here, with a 1.8L Inline-4… with mechanical injection. You figure that would be a cost saving measure until you see the purchase cost, which is at max budget. For $10,000, you don’t even get the best comfort or drivability either (both are really bad), and even reliability is second worst. I think it’s because of using a Standard 20s Safety and a Corrosion-Resistant Steel Chassis with Partial Alu for weight savings. At 1229kg, it’s not even the lightest so hmm… yeah this car is not engineered well unfortunately and it struggles in the design department too.

Design Notes

It’s a nice green small hatchback. Lack of side mirrors aside, it’s a nicely designed cars with wheels that nicely fill out the wheel wells, nice proportions with an obvious focus on interior space. The silver accent on the B pillar is a nice touch that breaks the monotony of the side design, along with the nice black bumper bar that matches the front and rears, but oddly does not extend all the way to the wheel wells and so it’s hard to unsee that it is closer to the front wheel well than the rear, with uneven gaps. The front is alright, it has a bold split grille design reminiscent of BMW’s neue klasse design, with quad circular headlights with angel eye DRLs. I think the headlights are a little on the large side though, and the orange side indicators that sit on the black bumper bar is a little too big as well. I would say overall the front face is just okay, it doesn’t strike me as an amazing design nor a flat and boring design. For the rear, there is a simplistic style going on, with a simple blacked out central part connecting the two tail lights together. I like the bottom blback bumper bar with the nice silver side accents and also acting as the license plate area, which works really well. However I think that the badging is a little awkwardly located in that tiny body colored strip area whilst the tail lights are perhaps too simplistic and a bibt too large again. Overall it’s an okay design that could use more attention to detail, it’s not bad but also does not really have any wow factor either.

@PhirmEggplant - Truffle Motors PLASMA se

This car scored abysmally in drivability and service costs, with only middling scores in other areas that we are looking at. Being priced at $10,000 definitely didn’t help this one either. Potential problem areas is the manual transmission, which is hell to use in congestion and traffic jams that can last for hours every single day. A hydraulic steering module did not help in making this car easy to drive either. Everything else seems okay, but using Standard CDs as the entertainment in the interior seems like a cost saving measure that still did not save any costs lol. Unfortunately, this car can’t get a higher score because of these reasons.

Design Notes

I’m sorry but I really hate this roofline design lol, the roof looks way too bubbly, the rear overhang seems somewhat awkward and longer than the front, and although this smooth bubble design could work, the front hood is also angled really high and so the base of the windshield starts way higher than the side window beltline so… idk it’s just really awkward lol. To me, proportions are 90% of the design so unfortunately even though the individual graphical elements are okay, it overall looks really weird. The front fascia also looks really low, and… I know that this is just a fixture but the headlights come really cloudy out of the factory bruhhhhh. Also the rear bonnet is very… curved and plain, and I think the text is a bit too oversized to be realistic. Like, this bubbly design can and does work, but the final execution leaves something to be desired I think.

@fabiremi999 - Cataletto Zenova 1.2T

Alright, let’s see what’s wrong with the Zenova. This has by far the worst comfort of all the entrants, and the highest service costs. The practicality is also not that great, while drivability is well below average. The only saving grace is that it is priced at $9830… but even then unfortunately there are better entrants that offer you a lot more that is still cheaper than this price lol. I think the corrossion resistant chassis and treated steel panels might be too expensive. Although really good for longevity, the average buyer would have a hard time appreciating this until it’s probably 10 years old or longer, and unfortunately suffering in the meantime is not a great experience.

Design Notes

This is a small sports coupe SUV design, with an inoffensive front fascia that is relatively nicely cleanly designed and built, whilst the rear is also similarly well built and nicely designed. Both front and rear fascias are clean, with nice and clear cohesive design lines that make sense. Even the slim dual exhausts add a hint of sportiness to an obvious econobox. The two prominent centered foglights are a nice centerpiece. The wheels are relatively small for that wheel housing though, but I do understand that this is an econobox. Otherwise, not much to say. It looks well-built with a nice and cohesive overall design.

@OptimusAlpha - Grace

Just like it’s name, it’s pretty graceful on the road with better than average comfort and fuel efficiency. Unfortunately you will have to fork over your entire household budget of $10,000!!! What you do get with your hard-earned money though is not enough to convince you yet - below average drivability and high service costs with below average reliability too. I’m not sure what the problem is since this car has a CVT, Electric steering and ABS, and the dimensions are not that big or small so should be fine. I guess it is just a matter of tuning the gearing and the suspension. Also I guess this has the worst design score so yeah very unfortunate.

Design Notes

For some reason the front wheel housing is massive but the rears are not, it makes it look kinda weird. That’s the first impression, the other impression is that the headlights are almost as big as the wheels itself, the side mirrors are tiny and that the door handles are weirdly low but also intended to act as a window handle too at the rear. Hmm… overall it’s not a bad try, but I also can’t get over the weirdly oriented/shaped hood vents too, and the really weirdly small center exhaust just underneath the license plate. Overall it’s a good try and attempt, but in this field of entrants, unfortunately it does not do as well.

@forgetadaydream - Tambora Kira J

This car scored amazingly well in design, and although it is a design-heavy QFC, you still need good engineering. This is a prime example of that. With the 2nd worst drivability, 2nd worst service costs, by far worst reliability, and just bad comfort, this car’s design failed to carry it through the rankings sadly lol. The service costs is potentially due to the use of a turbo, which is not a bad idea but it’s a 1.0L Inline 3 making 81.8hp… what? I don’t think you need a turbo lol. It also has a 6spd Auto, which is not bad, but I think CVTs might help it in fuel efficiency and drivability too. Other than that, it has TC+ABS, which I don’t think you need TC in this case, it’s just too expensive and doesn’t do much. The reliability is really sad though, and it’s almost entirely from the engine I believe, with engine reliability at a measly 72. :frowning:

Design Notes

Wow this is a very stylish car. I love the overall angular look of this car, with the very exaggerated angular lines at the front and rear. The body-colored center top area in the front looks fantastic, along with the way that it is framed and emphasized with the chrome accents that smoothly transition from the really thin headlights. The central grille is massive but broken up by a horizontal body colored bar that transitions into the side vents. Care has also been taken into actually modeling the license plates too and the rear top brake light. The rear tail light is also quite interesting with its design, it’s angular but with an upwards angle. The only bad part about this design and the weakest part is the sides. The front and rear seems to have a lot of design going on, with different lines and elements, but the sides seem quite bare. A black side bottom molding or accent piece, or a side indicator or accents on the door handle could go a long way, though I do appreciate the continuous body line from the headlights to the door handles then going down at the rear. Overall, it’s a really nice, forward-looking design, it’s a very bold and angular design that still looks minimalist and restrained, great work.

Ughhhh Discourse has a body limit on posts but NOT in messages wtf omg I have to split this post in 3 wtf I'm so sorry guys this is so annoying FR omg

@ChrisOnline127- Beowulf Vailie

Firstly, I’d just like to point out that this car is really small but has an absolutely massive 2.0L engine. You would think it is 4 cylinders but nope it is only 3 cylinders and it outsized our other previous entry’s 1.8L Inline 4 lmao. It is no surprise I guess that this car only does 7.5L/100km, the 2nd worst fuel efficiency of the crowd. With 98hp(!!!) and 0-100 in 11.5s though, the fuel efficiency hit is not worth it. It has a manual too, so drivability is not great. Service costs are really bad as well, and I’m pretty sure it’s because of the massive engine. No wait - it has premium interior with a premium satnav. Damn. At only $8880 though? Now THAT is quality. (lol). Still, it also has electric steering and TC+ABS so… idk. It’s an okay car I guess but I think a lot has been cut while trying to upmarket itself with its features and it just lacks tuning.

Design Notes

Cute little proportions, smartly emphasizing its interior space while minimizing the exterior. The basic white and all black visor windows look nice, but the somewhat squared-off lower bumper areas at the rear, sides and front are a bit awkwardly placed but still a nice design. The front is designed okay, it’s not offensive but a bit overcomplicated with the quad side vents and another middle vent behind the license plate and a bigger center grille. I like the simplicity of the rear design more, it seems more cohesive. The front is cohesive too but I think it may be trying too hard slightly. The Indonesian license plates are also a really nice and unexpected welcome too. I can tell that care has been put into the build, but yeah, it’s a nice and basic design but nothing that wows really.

@Isabella - Hexe Cyberhatch

I see the vision. I really do, but hmm design-wise it’s not really executed that well. Anyways - what killed it is the middling stats too. It has nice reliability and cheap service costs, but at $10,000 you should be expecting a lot, and unfortunately this car did not live up to its cost. It has below average drivability, and really bad comfort, along with a fuel economy of just 6.7L/100km, which is bad. Perhaps it is not aerodynamic at all lol. Power-wise, this has a 107.4hp from a 1.5L Inline 3, so it’s the 2nd most powerful actually. But guess what? For $10,000 (your entire family’s budget!!!) you get NONE interior entertainment. Like… absolutely ZERO. lmao. Idk man, I think you tried to cost cut speakers or audio from the car but like it has double wishbone and multilink suspension. What???

Design Notes

This is definnitely inspired by the Cybertruck. There’s nothing wrong with that, and I see the vision, but I think the execution is a bist sub-par I think. It works because it’s a budget car I get it, with the massive completely plastic blacked out front fascia and rear bumpers. Stainless steel body panels are also much more expensive than regular automotive steel but ANYWAYS the intention of the design is there and it’s cool but yeah. I think there is a better way to build a cybertruck inspired small hatch than this. The roofline proportions are a bit weird, the side plastic bars are somehow leaning downwards, and there’s no real cohesion in the body lines. The rear bumper is quuite well done, as are the front, but that’s pretty much it.

@Ch_Flash - Yajirushi Puglet

Firstly I would just like to say that this is a very bold and creative design lmao. At first it’s like a puppy and I believe that’s what the ad says but on second look the straked vents look like whiskers so IDK. Design-wise, it’s good. Engineering-wise unfortunately no. Anyway, what kills this car is the bad drivability, service costs, and lack of comfort. Manual transmission again, which sucks but I get it. At $9980, you do get Standard 20s Safety… but the consumer here does not really care about that unfortunately. Hmm engineering wise I think it’s not too bad but maybe just a lack of competent tuning of what it’s got. Maybe using Basic 10s Safety could help it a lot here since anything more is unnecessary and just hurts the purchas price.

Design Notes

You know what? This is a really bold design not gonna lie. It’s really, really… weird… but works. The side looks amazing, those wheels are great and the subtle molding and the body proportions and side profile is the best thing about this car. The front has a funny face. It has massive large eyes and an inverted T grille, it looks like it is smiling and it even has a cute little nose. Somehow actually it works, and I think it’s because of the lack of black negative space on the bottom part of the front facia. It’s just body-colored strakes and small foglamps at the very bottom to break up the monotony. It looks a bit weird but it does work, I’ll give you that. Actually I just thought of a cat looking at this? I think those are supposed to be whiskers lmao. The rear is also similar to the front design, but this time with a minimalist black center bar. Not bad, but perhaps a small nitpick is that you don’t really need that center exhaust, it’s awkwardly placed I think and doesn’t really fit in with the surroundings much. The roof even has strakes. Overall, it’s nicely built and I can see the care put into it. The design is very bold and it does work, and I can see it’s leaning on the cute aesthetic but it’s a bit weird too.

@Mausil - boguinhas

Another entry at the eye-searing budget of $10,000!!! What do you get for the money? A 1.0L Inline-4, CVT, Basic… CD player, Standard 10s safety though… and Electric steering with ABs. Hmm it’s not bad and there’s not much to say in the engineering other than with that budget I think people would be expecting more, as some of the entrants here in this field are able to offer at even lower prices. Drivability-wise it’s okay. Service costs it’s quite good and cheap actually. Fuel economy of 6.3L/100km is bad. Practicality is good but comfort nope. Yeah… it’s just a mix and match of good and bad but with that price you really expect more unfortunately.

Design Notes

What at first looks like a really weird color scheme I think ends up still working well together. This will definitely give you looks when you drive it around the city lmao. I really like the duotone scheme, and the overall minimalistic and somewhat ultramodern design of the entire car and rims. However, what kinda ruins it is the sad looking headlights lol, it’s angled downwards and outwards so it looks a bit depressed or not confident in itself… and I can’t unsee that lol. Also the inward molding of the lower bumper, although it’s not a bad design and sort of mimics a mouth withoout a grille, lacks detail and a bit of depth, I think it could work a lot better if this area looked like an actual bumper with depth while still incorporating the faux smile/mouth. The central grille, although very minimal and just a basic square, still works well in context of the minimalist exterior. The rear design also works well, but again that sad looking tail lights just look funny to me lol. For the rear, what bothers me the most is the downward angular molding of the lower bumper area for the license plate. It’s not bad, and I think it’s good that you extended it all the way upwards so there’s no awkward really thin flat area (it just takes the entire space), I think this doesn’t really connect with any body lines so I’m nont sure if this molding is necessary at all actually. Otherwise, it’s a nice minimalist car with a very bold color scheme that works lol.

@oldmanbuick - Via Cerah Miniko 1.2E

Ahhhh another $10,000. Let’s see… another FWD Manual car. Again, would be terrible in traffic congestion lol. This has really bad drivability and surprisingly really bad practicality too - 3rd worst. Comfort is just okay - below average. I think the budget was spent on galvanizing your chassis! No! Also using partial aluminum? I don’t think that’s necessary tbh lol these are supposed to be shitboxes. Standard interior with Basic entertainment I guess hurts the comfort aspect, and so I think a better tuned suspension along with an automatic could help a lot here.

Design Notes

This is a really well-designed small city car. It’s a hatchback but it looks very squared off in its proportions somewhat and really practical, I like it. I like the simplicity in the front and the rear, and although the sides look really bare, I think it’s helped by the fact that the front and rear are also very minimally designed, so it doesn’t look out of place or forgotten. Otherwise, I like the small details put into the small rear lower side vents, along with the side vents on the front fascia. It adds a small touch of depth to what would otherwise be a very flat and boring front. The grille, although pretty boring, is nicely accented with the chrome bar accent and the large logo. The headlights are well-built too. Overall it’s a nicely made car, not much to complain about other than the very bare side and no ‘wow’ factor.

@Hshan - PZS Impuls 1.2LX

The most comfortable car here actually. Nice work. And at $9850 which is still high but not the worst. I see that it reaches those comfort levels by using a Standard interior with Standard… HUD. From what I remember that could be really expensive, so I think using Standard Infotainment could help here and mayhaps better suspension tuning too to try and keep the comfort high. Practicality is bad though, not sure exactly why. Otherwise, it’s an okay-engineered car but the design leaves something to be desired I think.

Design Notes

First impression is that I really like the blacked out wheel arches, it removes a lot of visual mass of the car by making the wheels look visually larger even though this is an econobox. The singular transparent plastic-ish front single lightbar design is also pretty cool and futuristic, and I like the subtle body-colored dots on the main grille, along with the nice small side vents - that’s a really nice touch. The rear is also pretty well made, with nice lower bumper curves that are split into a plastic lower part too, and a central silver section. Perhaps the only nitpick is I wish the front lightbar area or front fascia was built better or had more depth or interesting molding to it. Overall nothing much to really complain about, it’s a pretty nice design.

@abg7 - AMS Abella II 1.0i CVT

First off, engineering-wise this car is really great. It has really really good drivability, and the best fuel economy at 4.3 L/100km. This is done with a 1.0L Inline-3 making 60hp, so it is the 2nd lowest in terms of power but still able to accelerate to 100 in a zippy 12.7s. How you tuned the transmission to do nice acceleration in a 60hp car with still nice fuel economy is nice work. However, the good things end there. It is below average in reliability and it’s quite expensive at $9950 and high service costs too. It has body panels made out of partial aluminum, which makes it one of the lightest cars here at 974kg, definitely helping it save fuel but… yeah, the design lets it down a bit and it’s not a spectacularly engineered car for $9950, I think you can optimize it for budget next time.

Design Notes

First impressions is that it has a sort of weird profile with the roof. I understand the intention, but the execution is sort of lacking, the body shape as it is going up the roof from both the C and A pillars is awkward to say the least, with the windshield raked really far back and super straight. I believe the intention was for aero reasons, but otherwise can’t help but still feel it’s a really awkward design. Otherwise, the overall shape of the car is inoffensive albeit a bit generic. Build quality wise it is alright, it’s a QFC after all so I can see this was definitely very quickly built. The front looks nice, but the rear seems to have been rushed slightly. Overall it’s not the best of designs in this field of entrants.

@NotChris07 - Flash Aspera

Honestly this is not a bad engineered car. It has above average stats in everything except reliability, where it’s below average. Where it’s not lacking though is that price because damn at $10,000 you really want something amazing, and unfortunately this is not it. It has a 1.2L Inline-3 making 79hp, getting you to 100 in 10.8s which is pretty fast but yeah that’s it. Oh it has standard entertainment instead of basic so not bad but the comfort is literally just average. I think if this car is better tuned with what it has this could do better.The design is also not bad either.

Design Notes

The wheel seem a little undersized compared to the housing, I thinnk making it look slightly awkward. It is realistic somewhat but the way the rear end of the car kind of tapers inwards I think leaves a lot to be desired. Otherwise it’s a pretty solid design, with a nice basic front fascia that has a little bit of depth to it, and nice accents such as the roof rails and the front mirrors. The rear I think is a bit of a letdown since the tail lights don’t really pop from the body but they also don’t really follow a lot of body lines too. The bottom license plate inlet also seems way too large and it kinda makes the top of the bumper pretty thin, so I’d say it’s a bit awkward I think.

@Edsel - Aero Ruffian

Really bad comfort, but really good practicality. I guess that’s reflective of its really boxy, almost utilitarian design lol. It’s well-built at least, with nice detailing. Some fun facts about this car is that this has manual recirculating ball steering… while using ESC too… for it’s 1.4L Inline-4 engine making 77hp lol. It also has a partial aluminum panel for weight savings, which I guess works since it’s 967kg but it’s fuel economy is not that impressive - it’s just average at 5.8L/100km. The price being $9790 also doesn’t help a lot, it’s an okay car but it doesn’t really shine at anything. I’d just imagine though, you’re in traffic or trying to drive through really cramped winding city alleyways with manual steering that must be hell, but funnily enough it’s just average drivability so the tuning is not that bad lol.

Design Notes

Honestly I did not expect this to be well built on first glance. First impression is that it’s really drab and grey, not allowing me to see the details on it as quick. Secondly, it’s just a basic kei box van lol. Actually not a bad idea, considering it maximizes internal area pretty well for its given size. When you do look closer at it though, you realize it’s well built. Like, it’s really great. I appreciate the little details such as the side skidplates, front lower bumper construction, and the rear bumper too. The front fascia looks great, the DRLs are simple and boxy, reflecting its overall boxy design, and I can see care is taken into the actual build, too. Not much else to say other than it’s a really nicely built offroad-ish Kei box van. My nitpick is the rear tail lights received a lot less love (it seems) than the front. Perhaps a similar design to the front with a squared-off rear tail light signature and a central matte plastic center could work better. Overall, it’s pretty good.

@the-chowi - Billancourt Cite XB

THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE DESIGNS HERE LOL. (check out design notes) but anyway, WORST practicality and bad reliability, along with just being okay at everything else. Purchase cost is also quite expensive at $9680. As for drivability, it’s quite good actually and above average. I think a lack of quality in body or interior is a factor in the reliability, since the engine (a 1.2L Inline-3 making 80hp) is not bad at 94.5 reliability. As for practicality, I’m not sure either, I think it might be suspension tuning since this may be comfort oriented, which it is a comfortable car. Service costs are above average, fuel economy is a 6L/100km too so not that great either. Hmm overall I think it’s just let down by it’s engineering slightly. Like a similar previous entrant - although this is a design-heavy QFC, engineering still matters!!!

Design Notes

Ngl this is exactly what I want LOL. This thing looks perfect. It has weird circular eyes at the front trying to be cute but has really massive blacked out wheel fenders that remove a lot of visual weight, along with the sharp angled side inlet. Even the rear tail liight bar is nicely integrated with the body panel lines, the rear window line, and the slight outward angled ‘kink’ is a nice touch ato keep it from looking too boring. The rear lower bumper area is really nicely made, along with actual Indonesian plates lol thats a nice touch of detail and care. The front fascia is nicely designed too, with a nice angular lower part and a more circular upper part. Although the circular headlight is very much in contrast to the rest of the angular styling, I think it still works due to the circular wheel fenders too. The blacked out roof is great. And… idk what else to say other than it looks really damn great. It looks cute from the front, but it also looks rugged and tough, but also small and compact while being practical. It’s a really really damn great design, well done.

@Dog959 - Nusantara

This car is one of the cheapest at $8500 lol, and it also has cheap service costs of only $400.2… the lowest, in fact. It also has really great fuel economy at 5L/100km, amazing reliability (2nd best), great practicality (3rd), and slightly above average comfort. Not bad at all. UNFORTUNATELY though, the drivability is really bad. Hmm let’s see… ah. Manual, really unfortunate lol. I understand it might be realistic since manuals are really cheap, and it is a really cheap car to service and purchase, I think people would still be willing to spend just a tiny bit more so they don’t have cramped legs while sitting in traffic everyday. Also fun fact but this car has manual recirculating ball steering… which I can only assume to be a cost saving measure. It works I guess but hmm yeah the really cheap cost does not offset the not-as-easy-to-drive nature of the car.

Design Notes

First impressions is that this is a really basic design with a nice light sky blue paint. Though some elements are a bit weirdly scaled… such as the door mirrors, handles, and absolutely tiny rear exhaust lol. The rear looks very awkward with how the tail lights don’t really follow the body lines at all, and is slightly angled downwards and is massive compared to everything else. At the front, it looks a bit better definitely, with everything seemingly properly scaled and nicely placed. However I think the way that those two blue bars going down to the center of the grille is a nice accent piece but maybe too random and doesn’t really add much in my opinion, other than breaking apart the straight monotony of the center grille. Overall it’s not a bad design, it’s really basic and there’s charm to being really basic such as the hubcap wheels and the roof antenna, but against the rest of the field, this just scores okay.

@HybridTronny & @kookie - Pikemen Lekir X 1.0

Will Malaysia reign supreme??? Design-wise, it’s really great. BUT what kills it is the eye-watering, humongous price tag of $10,000. Perhaps in Malaysia this will not be a problem but it is really expensive here and although you do get cheap service costs, nice drivability, really great fuel economy of 4.8L/100km, and nice practicality, this is not a reliable car!!! Engine-wise, it’s running a 1.0L Inline-3 making 58.8hp (the weakest actually lmao) but it’s at 97.4 reliability so I think the engine is not the problem. Perhaps more engineering time and budget could be spent on better quality exterior parts or interior or the CVT to improve reliability, instead of using… wow is that an AHS chassis??? With drum brakes all-around? Actually yeah safety was a complete non-factor in this challenge so unfortunately this is a case of budget misallocation like 1MDB.

Design Notes

I really like the construction of this hatch. There’s attention to detail in the way that they tried to add depth to the design, mainly the front grille, and lower front fascia. The nice molding goes all around the car as well and is nicelly wrapped at the rear, where it forms the lower bumper. The inverted molding looks nice but I think there’s a slight clashing of lines in the rear lower bumper, the two lines meeting each other a bit too close. However, it’s nicely made and there’s even a small ‘floating roof’ detail on the C pillars with the blacked out horizontal bar. The DRL signature is quite nicely integrated and the foglight signatures look nice too, but the rear tail lights seem to be a bit messy, even the top part of the housing doesn’t really match with any lines I think. Overall it’s a really great simple design that works well and the multitude of body molding makes it look a bit sporty.

@azkaalfafa - Namwon Hamster

This is an… interestingly designed car. Honestly it kinda works but ANYWAYS. DAMN $10,000 price!!! Let’s see… you get a standard interior, basic HUD, a 1.2L Inline-3 making 97hp that accelerates you to 100 in 10.8s, and ABS. Fuel economy is good too at 4.7L/100km, and comfort is great. Practicality is great but reliability is not. Service cost is alright. Drivability is good too. I think it’s just a budget issue like above. Everything else seems okay engineered and I don’t see any glaring weaknesses, design-wise it’s also pretty strong. To nitpick, maybe partial aluminum panels could be cut without really affecting any of the stats I think. But honestly, between 9th and 5th the scores are really close so these cars are equally as good - just a matter of design taste tbh. (Score-wise this car has the same design score as the Malaysian above it, just beats it out in engineering ever so slightly)

Design Notes

First impressions is that this is a quirky design, like another car here, but is done in a more mainstream style that I think would be more approachable to the general public (at least I think). However, as cool as the headlights and tail lights are (giving it a very distinctive look), the very squared off and protruding grille gives me a big nose vibe lol, I think it’s funny and nicely built but I think the design could be a bit better with less grille and less intake area at the front, especially for a small economy car. But it does give it a very sporty vibe, which is good. The roof being a different color (white) is a really nice touch too, makes it look more different. The rear, while the overall design is great, protrudes way too far backwards I think, it kinda looks a bit awkward to me. Overall, the design is really great, it is really well-built, but just a bit awkward proportion-wise in some places, nice job!

@nvisionluminous - Ayatsuji Anemone GX

Fun fact but this car has the smallest engine lol, a 980cc Inline-3 making 71hp with 103.4 reliability, damn not bad. Engineering-wise, it’s also pretty great overall. It has one of the best fuel economy at 4.6 L/100km, nice purchase costs of $9000, good practicality, above average reliability. It’s drivability is just okay but the comfort could be better. I think honestly with better tuning or optimization this could go far. Design-wise, I wouldn’t say it’s strong, but it’s definitely not bad either. Other than this, not much else to say tbh because it’s just… ~average~. lol

Design Notes

A really nicely made, compact very blue hatchback. I appreciate the attention to details in the lighting fixtures especially, but I wish more care would be taken in the actual side, and bumper areas (front and rear). I think this suffers the case of a design having good proportions and havinig nice individual detailed areas, but doesn’t really combinne together to make somethingn that’s more than the sum of it’s parts. There’s no real connection between the front and rear and the sides are very bare. I think what could be improved is a more balanced / even distribution of detail in all parts of the car.

5th - @AndiD - Mara Zora Mk3 1.1

If I say this car is super well engineered, it’s not entirely true because it costs $10,000, so you kinda expect it to have really great drivability, good reliability, practicality, and comfort… and it does! Nice. Service costs and fuel economy (5.4L/100km) could be better though. From a 1.1L Inline-4 with 60hp, it does seem a little underpowered for its size and cylinder count lol, but still beats out some people at accelerating to 100km/h in 13s. Design-wise it’s slightly below average. It’s confusing because the engineering isn’t stellar, the design is just okay, but it scores this well because it really puts the engineering optimized for the judging criteria lol. Fun fact is that this also has partial aluminum body panels and ESC. I think this car could do even better by just cutting those out and saving money instead.

Design Notes

A very utilitarian style of tiny hatchback - it’s only 2.34m wheelbase! It looks like it maximizes the interior space with what little car it is. It is a nice inoffensive design, and I can see that care has been taken to build it too, with the front and rear fixtures placed nicely together. A hint of realism is also nicely added, with rear reflectors and side reflectors as well. However, the side mirrors do seem a little small (but this is a nitpick). Otherwise, it really is just a basic inoffensive design that is well built for QFC standards, but nothing really ‘wows’. Still overall a good design!

4th - @Rubensls - Hokai Marotto

This car is nicely built but wow those headlights and front grille are massive lmao. Anyways, this car is by far the cheapest, and undercut everyone at only $7990 lol, where the next cheapest is at $8500. Absolute steal. Of course, you shouldn’t expect much but honestly this has above average comfort and just slightly below practicality, reliability, fuel economy (5.8L/100km), and service costs. Drivability could be better, but not with the worse, it has a CVT and Electric steering. Although the features are there, a lot of corners has been cut to reach this aggressive price point and although it’s not the best at everything, you get like 90% of the average for a much cheaper price lol. It has a 1.3L Inline-3 making 69hp and 101.2 reliability too, so like it’s also quite good. Overall, yeah… with $7990 only it’s really hard to beat lol. Nice.

Design Notes

This is a really really well made build, and I really appreciate the love and care put into the paint scheme… that goes over the interior too lol. I love the floating roof design with the blacked out C pillar bar, and the subtle small black bar on the sides and front lower lip that helps to remove the visual height slightly. The front is kinda crazy though, the headlights are absolutely massive lol, but I do see the vision with the exaggerated grille. Overall, the front does work well, but perhaps the headlights are comically too big lol. At the rear, the tail lights are a little more restrained in size, but it still looks nice and follows the body lines nicely, overall it’s a quite cohesive design, even with small llittle interesting pieces such as the small blacked out fake vents beside the rear tail lights. The lower bumper area is also interesting with a large blacked out central area that perhaps goes up a little too much, making the body colored bumper part a little too thin. overall it’s a really nice design that works well.

3rd - @yurimacs - RetroniX Miyabi

I LOVE THIS CAR. LOL. Fun fact but this is the only car here with a 4x4 drive setup and electric variable steering with ESC. Although it is eye-searingly expensive at $10,000, you do get a fantastic design, amazing drivability, nice fuel economy (5.2L/100km), cheap service costs and slightly above average reliability. Comfort though is bad… because it uses a solid rear axle unfortunately. Practicality is also bad, and kinda reflects on the design with what looks like a cramped interior lol. But wow, I just know that there is a market for a super budget fun offroad car and this matches it. It has a 1.5L Inline-4 making 84hp with 101.3 reliability, so perhaps more engineering time or budget could be spent on improving the reliability elsewhere, but otherwise it’s not a slow car either, with okay power and can accelerate to 100 in 10.4 seconds, which is the 2nd fastest. Engineering-wise it’s alright but yes this one is carried by its design lol. From this point on, the difference between 3rd and 2nd and then 1st is quite large.

Design Notes

THISSSS… is wow. Like, truly a masterclass in retro-inspired fun offroader design. I was given a tease that this will be a Jimny style of car but this looks way better lmao. I absolutely love the way this looks, the proportions are fantastic. As I said previously, 90% of a design is proportions and this is literally perfect as a fun little budget offroader. I really like the fact that it has a sizeable front bonnet area, works really well as a sort of throwback of older cars, and the really nicely made overflowing-top rear window. Even the wheel rims fit really well, I don’t know how to describe them other than very offroader looking budget steel hubs. The modern styling shines through the retro-inspired proportions too, with the nicely integrated front DRLs, front light projectors, and the body-colored central grille area is a really nice visual interest that breaks apart the monotony of a plain black plastic lower front bumper. Even the front side vents have what looks like radiator fins which is a really really nice touch too. At the rear, it’s definitelly a lot more minimalist, with no branding whatsoever, and just a plain tail light and some vertical strakes on the side. The rear also seems focused on the departure angle too, with an extremely high clearance. Overall this is extremely, extremely well done, I really like it. I know this is hard to do considering almost the entirety of the car is built in 3D too, so a lot of care and love has been put into the design and I really appreciate that. Overall it’s just amazing, again, a masterclass in retro-inspired budget offroader design.

2nd - @iivansmith - Homada Kochi 1.0 XS

Look I know we collabed on the previous QFC so this might seem sus getting this high placement but honestly it’s so well built and such a great design that it is one of 3 cars with perfect design scores. (Yes not the only one). This car was carried not only by its design but also its solid overall engineering. Firstly, it is the 2nd cheapest car here, at only $8500. Drivability is good, and comfort is 2nd highest too. However, with the cheap price you are making some compromises, including the slightly high service cost of $670.5, just okay fuel consumption at 5.6 L/100km, just okay reliability, and bad practicality unfortunately. It has a 1.0L Inline-3 making 68hp and has 95.8 reliability. It also has basic steel panels and basic steel chassis, with a strut front and semi-trailing arm rear suspension. It also has standard interior with basic entertainment, so not bad either, and has ABS too. Overall for $8500 you really are getting a good deal with calculated compromises that are not too bad tbh, along with the fantastic design.

Design Notes

Another design with a perfect score but a completely different style, this is a masterclass in clean and realistic design. Compared to the other two designs with the perfect scores with exaggerated proportions, this one keeps things realistic but still extremely well detailed and proves that you don’t need massive wheel fenders or a very sporty design or cutting off a lot of visual mass to have something that looks great. This car has a large hood, body colored panels that go all the way down, but a nice blacked out roof that still visually cuts off some of that vertical mass slightly. The wheels also nicely fill out the wheel arches, with some extra vertical height in the arches that are quite realistic. The nice subtle body molding around the wheel arches are just super tastefully done and emphasizes the wheels without going overboard, and the nice subtle side molding that neatly integrates the side mirrors are nicely aligned with the headlights and tail lights without making it obvious too. Speaking of the front, I love the way that this is just so simple. This is a masterclass in simple design with a lot of depth, from the way the headlight visor is nicely indented inwards to the way the grille has that nice indented border. Attention to detaill is amazing, even with the super super subtle tiny front side plastic pieces at the bottom front sides that just ties the whole front look together and frames out the singular grille. The rear is perfectly minimal - perfect example of how to do minimalist styling right. Youu can do a really good job at minimal design by adding a little bit of depth to it, which keeps the whole look interesting without being monotonoous. My favorite feature is the tail lights, which uses a 2D body molding fixture that protrudes outward - it’s so clean and so nicely done and just so realistic, it’s incredible. Small little details like this protrusion help massively in breaking up the flatness that could be problematic in a minimal design. Even the lower rear bumper is nicely made, with the license plate molding nicely keeping a tasteful vertical gap with the bumper and two small nice reflectors at the bottom. An incredible piece of work with a LOT of attention to detail even down to the license plates too.

1st - @karhgath & @Kyorg - Velocista Touring

What is that thing lol. Really crazy design choice but it does work and it’s really well built. This car literally gapped everyone else in engineering it’s crazy. I was playing around with the weights and just kept adding weight to design (for fun) and this car still kept winning and winning damn. Okay let’s see… wow it has the highest drivability by FAR lmao. Below average purchase cost, amazing reliability, really good service costs, great fuel economy (5.4L/100km), and good comfort. Really the only weakness this car has is the practicality (which is just very slightly below average lol). They really did cheese drivability here, and it’s impressive being able to fit variable electric steering here at this budget, as it really does help in tight cornering or highway cruising stability. Engine-wise it has a 1.2L Inline-4 making 62hp with MFI injection and 107 reliability… damn bulletproof lol. It’s also not that slow, accelerating to 100 in 13.7 seconds, and is also able to fit ESC into the budget. I can’t complain, for the price it’s not bad since you’re getting a car that’s immensely pleasurable to drive on the daily and will NOT let you down reliability wise. Really great work honestly lol.

Design Notes

Firstly, it looks cohesive in its really quirky design style. I love the way the front headlights are modeled and designed, and another thing is that this car is really well built too. However, it does seem quite a bit excessive in some places, such as the DRLs at the front or the way the tail lights are connected horizontally but then also split vertically. Not a bad design honestly, but really quirky and confident in its quirkiness. This reminds me of those cars that have a cult following with people who really really LOVE the design but unfortunately I think most would think its a bit too ‘out-there’ or weird for it to be considered generally good looking.

Thanks everyone for participating!

Reminder that around 9th to 4th the competition was super tight and the scores were really really close actually so good work. Really appreciate the effort of the cars and it’s a great improvement to only have 4 bins, but yeah hopefully next rounds there would be ZERO bins lol.

Final Standings:
Thank you once again! Hope this was a fun build! I also kinda wanna build my own econobox too lol but maybe that will be a while.

I… don’t think I could get much more out of it, without sacrificing the load capacity? Or switching to some more advanced suspension type, which seemed unrealistic.

I guess it’s mainly the small size? IDK, the practicality stat is weird and I don’t really understand it.

As for the HUD - yeah, maybe that didn’t make the most sense, but it was cool. TBH I didn’t even think to check the cost difference between that and the infotainment option :joy: Overall I think I usually try to make my cars better equipped than they need to for the challenge.

dang it, fixtures must’ve increased the price. Fair enough anyways

Never use a company techpool for a challenge because it’s my understanding that things like the country bonus will not apply when imported by the host as a sandbox vehicle; that would be my guess as to what happened here. And at the very least, if you just do it as sandbox, you will make sure you’re seeing the same things the host is seeing. Maybe try cloning your car and switching its company to sandbox to see what techpool you get.

I was trying to do this challenge in a Tesla way. Overengineering some parts and just straight up half-assing others. I guess i just fumbled the execution of my vision. Had fun anyway!

Yes! Not last.

This was just a for fun car. It is supposed to be a cheap rebadge (hints the by truffle motors badge) like american companies loved doing in the late 70s but with a low quality china brand car.

Good work everyone except the homie that made a double budget car :saluting_face:

For my very first challenge, I’ll take that. I really struggle with design, so even a ‘not bad’ is pretty good for me.

Could’ve done better engineering wise, though.

The goal most definitely was realism, but I guess that messed up the design a little.

Anyways, really loved taking part. Great job everyone, and congratulations to the winners!

Yes, I had to cheapen a little out and it made the car heavier by a very little margin, and that was enough to ruin it.
Still, the car wasn´t brilliant anyway so the bin isn´t that much of a pain for me.

I mostly cheaped out on body, chassis and suspension right from the start
My mantra was that when you spend 2h stopped in traffic, the car becomes a glorified chair.
And my chair dont need no part alluminium high streng multilink legs ahah
