State of Defence 2 - [RESULTS]

STATE OF DEFENCE 2

Brief

National Security is highly important these days. The Military Industrial Complex must continue to churn, for without this, what is there to fund? What is needed now, more than ever before, is an evolution. The concept we are looking for is not new, it is not a revolutionary concept. We are looking for a “light” vehicle, armoured, mine resistant, weapons capable. A core part of troop movements and key for scouting. There is always new things to include, and new ways to evolve. You and your companies, they are the ones who will bring forth development.

A specific vehicle is being looked for, and in true military style, a single one will be awarded the contract for trial and deployment. JLTV – Joint Light Tactical Vehicle – is the specification we are looking upon here. A new backbone of development, something we can use in any situation and any scenario.

Requirements
  • Model and Engine years to be between 2015 and 2020 inclusive.

Engine

  • A maximum of 40 techpool points may be used, though no single area may be less than +3
  • 6 or more cylinders required
  • Magnesium Blocks banned
  • Three-way catalytic converter required
  • Two Mufflers required
  • Ethanol E10 or Regular Unleaded Fuel only
  • Injection Only

Trim

  • A maximum of 61 techpool points may be used, though no single area may be less than +3
    • Excluding Safety, which must be 15
  • Automatic or Adv. Automatic only
  • Chunky Offroad Radial only
  • Steel Rim Material only
  • No drum brakes
  • Offroad skid tray required
  • 5 seats in a 2/3 layout required
    • No +2 or +3 seats allowed.
  • Safety must be Advanced 20s with +10 quality
  • Weight Optimization must be 0

Banned Mods

Recommendations
  • When designing these machines, Function should always come before form. JLTVs are never that pretty. Think about things like clearances, storage, armour, and visibility.
  • A gun/weapons platform is recommended but not actually a requirement, though a visible mounting point may be enough.
  • Do not make an interior. I do not care if you have one, I will blank the windows out and never look at it. Save yourself the effort and put that time into the exterior.
  • When deciding on a company to make this vehicle, try and avoid out-and-out civilian/regular automotive manufacturers. I would highly recommend making up either a Heavy Duty vehicle company, or a specific military contracting company.
Judgement

High

  • Cost Effectiveness

    • The initial budget for this project is $1,000,000 for production. Scoring for this catergory will be based on how many of your vehciles we can purchase for that million
  • Offroad

    • This is a vehicle made for military operation and use, going anywhere is a must for this machine.
  • Reliability

    • It is going to be in rough conditions often, something that doesn’t break down is a must.

Medium

  • Service Costs
    • if it does break, it needs to not hurt the bottom line.
  • Drivability
    • This thing shouldn’t require specialised training to operate.
  • Fuel Economy
  • It won’t be good, but try and make it as good as you can.

Low

  • Safety
    • It’s gonna be high no matter what, this is just going to serve more as an effective tiebreak
  • Utility
    • This one is a wonky one, so it won’t be too much a factor when it comes to judgement.
  • 0-100km/h
    • Another semi-tiebreak statistic, speed is a nice thing to have, but it won’t dealbreak a project.

uhhhh these banned mods. what are those mods actually lol, Idk what they are by name

They should all be hyperlinks to the workshop pages

alright yeah they all make sense…though its a bit silly to have to mention the RV and the harvester, I dont think people would actually legitimately use them for anything other than thier purpose

These seem contradictory. Besides, we are supposed to think about all this and not give a singular shit about the most important cargo in the vehicle? Hard to do when you are practically not allowed to do so at all.

In other words, that means setting the window transparency to 0 from the visibility settings menu.

I think they just want it to be more exterior focussed

My intention for that is to focus on the exterior. My intent for this challenge is to have a slightly “earlier” UE4 automation feel, whilst taking advantage of the newer features we have such as Advanced Trim Settings and 3D Fixtures. I want to see creativity in the exterior design, I have no intention for any interior elements to be considered on the grounds of parity between individuals.

You can think about those elements to guide how you build the exterior.

Is one muffler enough or does it mean it must have both? Would a loudness limit be more appropriate?

I will clarify to meaning both.

do you mean “more”?

No, he means less. +3 in each engine area only takes 18 TP

Is 2/3 seats 2 or 3, or 5?

5 seats, in a 2/3 layout. I will adjust clarification in OP

Imperium SandBear LTV

The brand-new Sandbear LTV from defense company Imperium is the ultimate light tactical vehicle, ideal for troop transport and scouting operations. A balistic and explosive-resistant body sits atop a commercial Titan THD-65 chassis, also borrowing the truck’s 6.2 liter twin-turbocharged TitanStroke V8. Thus, the 3.3 ton behemoth is able to get out of hairy situations quickly, and reliably. A full V-shaped underbody keeps occupants and vital driveline components safe from IEDs and rough terrain, while Imperium’s proprietary all-wheel independent suspension system - with all-wheel-steering and air brakes - ensures handling and maneuverability in rough terrain. The system is symmetric front-to-back, to simplify repairs and maintenance in the field. In the enclosed troop carrier body there is space for five occupants, as well as provisions for a gunner’s turret and enough space to carry a standard pallet or, in a pinch, up to three more troops. Other body styles include an open-air cargo variant and a field ambulance.

Something I feel I should clarify here since I’m not confident the rules are the most clear looking back.

The Safety Techpool being at +15 DOES NOT COUNT AGAINST YOUR TECH POOL POINTS

If people have worked assuming that Safety at 15 means you have 15 less TP to work with, then respec may be in order.

Would a resub be allowed for this, then?
